Zambian Recipe| Vitumbuwa| Mandazi| Puff Puff

In Zambia, we call them Vitumbuwas. In East Africa they are called Mandazi and in West Africa they are called Puff Puff but how ever you call them, here is the standard recipe and you'll love it if you try. Enjoy!

    Tried this recipe and it worked so well (first time at least 😅), and still practicing. Only critic I have is that the sugar is way too much. I'd suggest about 2 tablespoons (1 for each cup of flour).

    We call these mandasi in Malawi. Vitumbuwas are a completely different thing to us😂 we use bananas to make vitumbuwas

    What makes mine not to cook inside but getting burnt outside...and they are not so soft after that...how much east do I need

    Maybe the heat. If oil is too hot they will get brown fast outside but still uncooked inside

    Normal white flour coz we add yeast. If u use baking flour which already is mixed with baking powder then reduce the amount of yeast

    I noticed many comments required measurements What worked for me: What worked for me 2 cup Flour 2 tbsp Yeast or 10 g Pinch Salt 4 tbsp Sugar 1 egg 1 big cup / measuring jug warm Water Optional Milk Essence * swap milk for water * Add a little Essence for taste 1stp of sugar in one cup of warm water (can make it warm milk or milk with water) add 2 tbsp yeast set assist for 3-5min Mix all dry ingredients add egg to yeast mixture Add wet to dry ingredients and knead (can add essence Cover and set aside for 2hrs Ready for frying Fry in deep oil medium to low heat is better for it to cook well & don’t make the dough too pourus a little thick will do

    zippy kamande mandazi is different I think it’s equivalent to Zambian Madondoif you’ve ever had .. since they are abit boxy and more firm than a chitumbuwa
