On September 4th, 2020, ZAKK SABBATH, the Black Sabbath tribute band featuring guitarist/vocalist Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne), bassist Blasko (Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie) and drummer Joey Castillo (Danzig, Queens of the Stone Age), will release their massive tribute to the Birmingham four, a faithful yet supercharged rendition of Black Sabbath's first album.
Having been gigging as a fun homage to the godfathers of metal since 2014, the Zakk-led trio was looking for a new idea when the decision to go studio came about. Says bassist Blasko:
"We recorded a live EP and were wondering what we could do next as a cover band, so the 50th album anniversary came just at the right time," he explains. "Compared to 'Paranoid', which is almost like a best-of record, the bulk of the material on 'Black Sabbath' is deep-cut, really experimental stuff that was never thoroughly explored, so that was a challenge, not to forget that we wanted to meet our own high standards."
Describing the DIY process as "very productive," the three respectfully added their own flair to make for a slightly different flavor, also revisiting various live renditions and "extending a solo here or slowing things down there because that's what they tended to do on stage."
Titled "Vertigo", Zakk Sabbath's ode to the masters won't be available digitally, "to make the release feel authentic to when vinyl ruled the earth. It was such a cool time for those of us that grew up during that time. The fan experience with the physical product is irreplaceable with digital and streaming. We wanted to capture that authenticity."
Legendarily recorded in a single day in October 1969, Black Sabbath's self-titled debut was released on a Friday the 13th in 1970, fifty years ago this year.
Zakk Sabbath's versions were faithfully recorded in the spirit of the originals - live in the studio and with a film crew documenting the process - to celebrate the greatest heavy metal band of all time and the record that started it all.
Available as:

Primus ft. Ozzy's version is the best imo 🔥🔥
One of our last guitar gods of the modern (current) era we have left... Zakk, John 5, Vai, Malmsteen, Iommi,Justin Johnson.. Just to name a few..
Un fuckin believable!!!! Zakk is the GREATEST. All our Heroes rolled up in one. LONG LIVE THE KING
It’s not easy to sound like Ozzy but he does a good job.

If anyone could it'd definitely be Zakk, he's got the long term exposure to Oz...might explain some of the more eccentric shades of his personality 😂
I'm surprised and not surprised at same time. I'm not surprised becouse I expected very high quality of sound when Zakk Wylde is the main man in that whole project . . . and I got it! I'm (very) surprised becouse these songs are not like usual high production cover songs; I think Zakk added a touch of modern freshness, and he put together his original music expression with legendary, unique Black Sabbath sound in a carefully balanced way. Result ?? ; --There were moments (and still are) when I think that these songs, especially "The Wizard", are better than originals ! ! ! BRAVO ! ! ! ❤! ❤! ❤!
I wasn’t a big fan of zakk till I saw black label live! Now I’m super into all he has done!

This cover and Ugly Kid Joe's cover are my favourites I remember covering NIB once in a band a few years back too.
Amazing work guys! Can’t wait for my copy of the album! Guitar work is (and as always) absolutely kick ass from the Odin of guitar playing. Vocals are really impressive and can’t forget about the awesome drumming and bass playing!

He's from New Jersey, not Scotland.
For a second, I thought one of those "Oh yeah" was Ozzy himself 😆
