I am a little confused with her statement regarding Russia's revenue. I thought Russia is now conducting trade using non-dollar / non-Euro currencies (primarily Chinese Yuan/RMB). So, how can Yellen be sure that Russia's revenue is dropping? I am sure Russia's dollar/Euro transactions are decreasing, but it does not mean that Russia's total revenue is dropping. This is just common sense.

The effect of the sanctions is at this stage unknown but what is know is the money incoming outside Russia. That has dropped as she indicated by 42%. Even if Russia considers alternatives. There is no way a country that side can operate without the dollar and without access to its funds. Unless you are saying she only responded to the surface and not yet the complete picture of what Russia is going through. And just an important note and you can do all the research on it..... 1. Energy and Oil has been cut significantly by Europe (by over 70%). 2. All other countries Russia supplies with oil are practically a drop in the ocean compared to Europe, USA and its partners in relation to sanctions. 3. It will take Russia an entire 5 decades to return to normality especially because the new normal is being created. That they will not have access to the funds and on the table there is already talks that they need to fix Ukraine with same funds. Looking at revenue is looking at the wrong number. Look at profit. A year ago Russia produce oil for $40/barrel, $2/barrel for shipping via pipeline, sale price equal to or exceeding. $80/barrel and a profit of $38/barrel. Today Russia sells oil for $55/barrel, has shipping cost of $15/barrel and essentially zero profit. The proof is that Russia is drawing down on financial reserves and will be unable to purchase foreign products by the end of the year.

This will be to the detriment of the US dollar in the years to come and therefore the US population as a whole. The US has been beating the dollar drum for too long without any real backing apart from the governments and military's word for it, that it's a safe investment. That power has been overused is now waning. The digital economy is already here and if the US don't wake up fast.. they'll be overtaken pretty soon and the power of the dollar will decrease even faster. Even if pricing is done via dollars transactions should be contracted in alternative currencies. 2) Move out of Treasuries to Gold and Dollar. *But Dollar reserves should be locally held and not held in New York.* This too is being done. No part of the Trading or Reserve Storage cycle should be under access of the West.

Re: The dominance of the US dollar, it's important to first consider that the creation of the EU was in no small part influenced by seeing the huge leverage of the US dollar in world trade, and by the hope the Euro could someday have similar leverage. So far, the EU has made few inroads in that. This puts in perspective the other efforts to replace the dollar standard. The Chinese/Russian + effort, for example, is nowhere near as substantial as the Euro attempt has been. Fareed Zakaria is worried about something that shows little evidence of happening. Of course nothing lasts forever. The day will come when international companies will see a choice of currency transactions. I don't, however, see that as close in time.

Frank, I agree with you completely. I had a little back and forth with someone online yesterday about the dollar. The Euro was created specifically to take on the dollar, and for almost 30 years, the Euro has made very limited inroads. The Euro is backed by 27 countries in the EU with advanced economies. How is a BRICS currency made up of weak and developing countries such as China, Russia, India, Brazil, and South Africa going to dethroned the dollar? We do not force any country to use the dollar, just as we don't force none English speaking countries to learn English. The benefits of speaking English or using the dollar are what makes people wanna do these things. The Saudis ran back to the green back last year after they said they would use the Yuan for trading. This is because the Yuan devalued to its lowest against the dollar. The Yuan can not become a global currency because it's not free floating. It is tightly controlled by the CCP. The last time China attempted to free the Yuan, the rich people in China pulled out trillions of Yuan from China to overseas banks. Like I said yesterday online, the United States has a sophisticated financial system that you can not find in China or even Europe. How about the rule of law and political stability? Most of the countries who dream of replacing the dollar are despotic countries with no rule of law: China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Mexico, Iran, North Korea, etc

All of this because the U S wanted to encircle Russia with NATO even after Gorbachev offered peace and brought down the Berlin wall and allowed Ukraine , the Baltic countries ( Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia , Poland , Uzbekistan to go their own way he dismantled the Warsaw Pact ( the soviet NATO ) and asked that NATO not move into former soviet countries and the U S agreed to this but did not ask for a formal treaty The U S broke that agreement and lied to the American people that their was no agreement and SURPRISE the German government ( our ally ) produced the document proving that there was an agreement !! Of course our news media mentioned it one day and buried it the next day and how many Americans are aware that the Obama administration spent 3 billion dollars to overthrow the legitimate government of Ukraine in 2014 with the help of that POS Victoria Nuland Russia actually asked to join NATO but was denied because there would not be a boogie man to justify the bloated defense budget The hidden hand , dark money outfit meanwhile Israel bombs Syria every night and that is fine with the U S , NO problem Why were there no sanctions when the U S destroyed Iraq , destroyed and bombed Libya Oh Gaddafi was demonized as a dictator monster except Gaddafi had built the highest standard of living in Africa He built universities and hospitals and was loved by his people The U S has a controlled news media that lies everyday How much news coverage about the 100 people in Odessa were attacked by Nazi Ukrainians with clubs and guns were chased into a government building in Odessa and the nazis terrorists set the building on fire and 100 peace protesters were burned to death !! How many Americans are aware of this atrocities?? NONE !! The U S never attempted to negotiate a peaceful solution You can EASILY FACT CHECK this

The Polish government supports Ukraine BUT last year the Polish government sent a letter to Zelenskyy that demanded reparations from Ukraine because the Azov Battalion(nazis) fought with Hitler and murdered jews and others 130,000 victims that were executed/murdered with AXES !! Because they did not want to use 130,000 rifle bullets They now are the government of Ukraine !! But the American people are ignorant of these facts YES FACT CHECK IT !!! Wake the F×ck up We are sending billions but we have to cut Medicare and social security that worker had paid into their whole lives but the government thinks our retirement money is their piggy bank !! There are legal issues that prevent the USA from giving the frozen russian money to Ukraine, however, there are no legal restraints on keeping the money frozen until Russia has paid full reparations to Ukraine directly. The USA seized billions of iranian money in 1979 and kept it frozen for over 35yrs. There is no expiration on when we have to release russias money or when we have to drop the sanctions.

To answer the last question Russia would say that USA and its allies should pay for the damages first it caused to IRAQ, AFGHANISTAN, SYRIA, LIBYA and countless number of African countries. Then when USA and its allies set the precedent of paying then only it would pay for damages in Ukraine. Russia won't pay a penny till the Global West defeats it like it defeated Hitler in WW2.

While she essentially did answer every question, she was still a bit vague.. I wish she were more confident with her answers; say “without a doubt we should be making Russia pay for ukraines damages with their frozen assets, yes there are apparently legal restraints, but we will fight these in order to ensure Ukraine gets all $300 billion!” Rather she said “well I believe it’s the right thing to do, but we’ll have to see.”

It is going to take more than $300 billion to rebuild Ukraine. But, when Ukraine WINS the war, there will also be a large influx of western capital to help fund the rebuilding. The revenues from development of the oil and gas reserves in the Black Sea, off the coast of Crimea, will enable Ukraine to become modern and prosperous ( as long as they don't revert to the old ways of graft and corruption ). They will only be allowed to join NATO if the government cleans up their politics.

Because of western sanctions, my friend cannot leave eastern Ukraine. Every way is blocked now, the only way out is with a lot of money, because there are no planes flying from Russia, only if you are rich and live in Moscow, you can fly to Turkey, any other western country has a travel ban for Russians. The fact that Turkey, a NATO member and Muslim country, cares more about Christian refugees from eastern Ukraine and Russia only shows how wrong all other countries are.
