Cut to 2022: -Matt is close to half a million subs and has a new podcast with Justin Wong and Maximilian -Liam is working with Matt as seen at the end credits of some of Matt’s What Happened episodes -Pat and Woolie’s podcast consistently gets sponsorships -Pat is now married to his mustard goblin wife and moved out of Montreal -Woolie is married to a woman with some good chemicals All my dads have moved on and found success in their own way, and if they’re happy I’m happy. Keep grinding shit lords.

These guys were like the first "let's play comedy group". they were Game Grumps before Game Grumps. they were Funhaus before Funhaus. They changed and enriched so many peoples lives shearly by being themselves. Matt and Pat no longer being friends is still very ironic to me, because in spite of never being THAT close, their chemistry was unmatched.

I was 14 when I discovered the Zaibatsu. I spent years coming home from high school gleefully looking forward to watching the latest upload. By watching their videos I learned how to speak English, which has been a very valuable skill throughout my life. They've influenced my taste in movies, KZread channels, games, TV, anime, manga and the list goes on. I was a fanboy. I bought the merch. Still have a poster hanging in my room. They're in my thoughts. My responses to things are sometimes just direct quotes from their videos. They've formed my sense of humor. They honestly feel like more than just KZreadrs to me. These guys were my childhood. I stopped following their uploads after a few years. There were other KZread channels for me to find. But something would always call me back to the channel. Whether it was Mat's axe throw, or Pat laughing at Norman Jayden running into a bunch of chickens , I'd always go back for a rewatch of their most iconic playthroughs. The video dropped right around the time I decided to watch the David Cage LPs again. Everything these guys meant to me came flowing back like a wave, only to come crashing down when Woolie uttered the phrase "Mat and Pat are no longer friends." I was okay with the channel's lack of future uploads. It was something I could easily accept because I didn't follow their uploads anymore, but that fucking line... Is this what a divorce feels like for a child?

If there's one thing to be said, it's that these guys were greatly underappreciated, I think. Their face value machinima audience from those days didn't really translate that well over to the full establishment. Hundreds of thousands of views that didn't necessarily migrate. The longer-formed playthroughs didn't really appease that microwave audience. And I was a part of that audience at first and I'm glad I decided to go a bit deeper and take a peek under the hood to find them playing Resident Evil 2. To find them playing Final Fight: Streetwise. To witness Super Best Friends Brawl. To witness Heavy Rain and Homecoming and Downpour and the First Shitstorm, the Podcast, all the salt from Fisticuffs and so much more. These guys, whether they'd like to think so or not, they fuckin' raised me dude. Almost every fucking day there was a video. Almost every fucking day I laughed or got hyped or maybe a little annoyed and even was left with some food for thought now and then. When the wheels fell off the spokes they kept fuckin truckin. Who knows if and when they'll be back. Maybe never. In some ways I take comfort in that fact. I'm glad they can branch off and be comfortable with themselves, grow themselves, get a little more spotlight individually. Beyond this youtube shit, the channel, the content, I hope they can all one day make amends over a couple games of Third Strike.

I'm in the same boat. As sad as DBZA ending is, it still very much felt like they ended on their own terms. They told a complete and satisfying story, and are still working to produce quality content. With Super Best Friends, though, it ended out of nowhere and rather messily. While the writing was on the wall with both cases, the suddenness and the circumstances surrounding the SBFP breakup made feel a lot more shocking and out of nowhere. The knowledge that it was because they were no longer friends was also a lot more painful for me to process as well, because even though it was still very much a business, being "best friends" was their entire brand. With TFS, the group is still sticking together and simply moving on from a project they felt they could no longer continue. With SBFP, real relationships eroded, and while they are all still producing quality content, none of it is quite the same.

@@MrGMoney1944 While not always noticeable, the relationship between Matt and Pat was visibly becoming more strained; while I didn't watch it myself, a lot of people pointed out that in the Star Trek LP that was cancelled due to the channel ending, the two were very obviously not having a good time, and were becoming more and more frustrated. Each of them also had created their own channel earlier that year, which didn't inherently mean anything but with how things had gotten it was fairly clear that they were preparing for the worst.

As they talk about their lives I learn more about them to the point where I would feel comfortable enough to invite them to my home. They would in turn become Super Best Friends and with 800K fans just have the ability with fan backing to get games localized: Yakuza 5 & Metal Wolf Chaos. A bunch of guys who like fighting games.

Man, this certainly is bitter-sweet to watch. The Super Best Friends brought me so much joy over the years and through them I found even more great KZreadrs like Eyepatch Wolf, Plague of Gripes, Superbunny Hop and Mr Clemps just to name a few Warriors from the Super Best Friends Cinematic Universe. The worst about their break-up wasn't so much the break-up itself, but the fact that there had been broken friendships between them, what really stung. Nonetheless I still very much enjoy them seperately and they were (and still are) some of the most secretly influencial KZreadrs on this God forsaken platform. Here's to you, Super Best Friends!

I still remember my friend randomly sending me their RE4 Machinima video and just dying as I watched it. Ended up watching all the Machinima videos they had and found their channel not long after. I think what really drew me to them would be the goofy conversations and stupid things they would say. It felt like conversations my friends and I would have. I don't think these guys will realize the kinda impact they had on people, hell they're the reason I got into JoJo's and Yakuza. Great job with this doc and I can't wait to see more.

I love this so much! Thank you for making such a heartfelt, hilarious, and well-written overview of the channel's history. This is a PERFECT encapsulation of all the hype moments and laughter the guys shared with us over the years. Matt throwing the axe still made me laugh when I got to that clip in this video, which is a testament to how amazing of a moment it is, and there are so many other ones I'm glad you included, like Lucky Ted and Big the Cat. I appreciate all the hard work and time you put into this, and I look forward to the future parts!

Personally I started watching these guys when metal gear rising was out, I laughed so much during that playthrough I even joined matt and pat saying 'what?' As Armstrong was making his speech to raiden; I've been a solid fan since. I still watch all their personal channels and laugh my ass off, I'll always have that feeling of remembrance of the old channel and watch the old playthroughs there for great memories. It's been fantastic to be with them for so many years, and I'm always gonna be a fan. God sorry I went on a tangent.

This is so bittersweet. As a cohesive unit, the Zaibatsu was damn near untouchable with the amount of chemistry they had. The combination of those four guys really covered every kind of video game fan out there and I owe so much of what I now know about both video game design and the gaming industry to them. That being said, all of them really have gone on to bigger/better things and in their own unique directions. While it does kinda suck that they basically split into two separate sides (let’s face it; it’s basically Pat & Woolie doing their thing while Matt & Liam do theirs elsewhere) at least they didn’t disappear entirely like a lot of channels do after a split. I hate the ending myself, but it started with an alright scene.

So so so grateful for all the years of hard work these guys put in to SBFP. A friend told me about them when I was 16, and now I'm 22 and STILL go back and rewatch old playthroughs. Thanks to these guys I got into a TON of games I never would've heard of without them. I fell in love with Life is Strange, Yakuza, Deadly Premonition, etc. I got to see games I never would've been able to afford to play (and still can't lol). They gave us SO much, and I really appreciate everything they did for as long as they did. The day they disbanded HURT. It still hurts. It'll always hut. I'll always miss counting down the days to the Shitstorm and seeing the familiar notifications at 3 pm & 9 pm everyday. I miss the comfort, stability, and laughs. At the same time, I feel lucky. Lucky my friend told me about them in the first place. Lucky I found the first youtube channel I really liked and content creators I cared deeply about. Lucky that they gave their audience 100% for YEARS. Lucky that the old videos are still there! I love that they're all still making content, and it would be AMAZING if they ever got back together... but in the end I just want them to be happy and hope they know they had many, many fans that loved SBFP and still appreciate them. xx
