Zack Snyder's Superman Isn't Superman

Фильм және анимация

Zack Snyders Superman is horribly inaccurate and dam right insulting. These films pissed me off and I decided to vent alongside the Snydercut. This video was a massive undertaking. A massive amount of work which took me a Week. So I would be thankful if you supported my work by leaving a Like and Sharing the Video.

Great Video! the arguments defending Zack's "superman" don't hold up, they got the parents wrong, they got Clark's motivations and personality completely wrong, he has no chemistry with Lois, Clark does nothing to help as many people from being killed in the final battle, and Clark would never just stand by as his father is swept off in a tornado, Clark would've gone after him even if he didn't have those powers, the Powers don't make him superman, its how he chooses to use those powers and what he chooses not to do with those powers, he would be as good of a person and strive to do as much good in the world with or without those powers, Power can't make you good or bad, and don't get me started on the horrible mishandling of the Batfleck, Wonder Woman, and now Martian Manhunter, the simple fact of J'onn being that General destroys that character and makes him a coward who just stands by when he could be helping civilians

Oh look, someone who prefers a Superman already completely fully developed into who he is, already has the ability and experience to reduce massive amounts of property damage, already has a dynamic relationship with Lois Lane, etc... Meanwhile, the actual movie itself shows that this is not that Superman yet... and all you can do is say, "BUT I WANT THAT SUPERMAN! I WANT HIM! I WANT HIM NOW!" You know, people say "the arguments defending Zack's Superman don't hold up..." yet all I can hear are critiques about how you wanted a Superman already fully realized in terms of personality just thrown on the screen. You don't want to know how he gets there. You complain about his first actual fight ever, you complain about mistakes he's going to have to make and learn from and you complain about exploring the psychology of Superman growing up on earth. It sounds like you didn't even understand the point of Zack's Superman, so you decided it wasn't Superman. Great logic there.

@@stunningandbravemegatron3927 You're the one who wanted a fully developed, already realized and saving people Superman. Just because you didn't get that, doesn't mean that isn't what the movie is doing. And this is not an argument, this is literally what the movie is doing. Are you literally incapable of trying to judge the movie on its own merits rather than actively judging it with your own bias. Also, that is funny that I don't understand Superman. I mean, I've read Kingdom Come, All-Star Superman, Superman Red Son, John Byrne's Man of Steel (which btw, is the very basis for Zack's depiction of MoS, maybe you should read the comics instead of having preconcieved pop culture notions of Superman). I know that Superman post-Crisis had constant issues of anxiety brought on about by Imposter Syndrome quite a bit. I know that he is horrified in the comics at the prospect that every night when he is sleeping, that somewhere in the world in his dreams he can hear people dying and he's not there to save them. Tell me, what do you know about the character that indicates you know him better than me? I'd like to know. And you know who does the things that you do with accusing people of anger issues before they've even displayed any anger whatsoever? People who don't have an argument that holds up to scrutiny. Let's see if yours does. "you're right he's not superman yet and he never will be becuz of the things he does in the movie and because of the way the kents raised him, they didn't teach him good moral values that molded him into the boy scout we all know and love" Wtf are you talking about? They teach him restraint in his abilities. Theirs even a scene where Clark is getting bullied and he wants to fight back but he doesn't because they could get hurt. He then talks to Johnathan and there is a little exchange of the type of morality that Clark has. Now, clearly there are flaws with his intake of this, such as destroying the Trucker's rig and such. But it is literally portrayed as wrong by the man's reactions as well as the ominous music that plays. The memory sequence also tells us why its wrong in a more overt manner. It seems like you don't know wtf you're talking about. "instead they teach him to be afraid of the world, to not use your powers to help people and do as much good in the world as possible" Um... no, that is not what they teach him. Johnathan Kent was telling Clark that the world is a dangerous place, with people filled with bigotry and are hard to accept truth when it is staring them in front of their face. He tells Clark this because he believes Clark has the ability to help the Human species, that he is not only their answer, but with what he can do, he can be their guardian. He is literally told that because of this great burden, he says that it is Clark's choice whether this burden is something he wants. This is the point where Johnathan is telling his son to use his powers to save people, to do good by the world but most importantly, to be a symbol for people to strive for. You clearly did not pay attention and you were just interested in tweeting reactions out. I'm not going to bother addressing anything else, its clear you either didn't watch the movie or you just didn't pay attention.

I loved 300, I even loved Watchmen, and even though I enjoyed Man of Steel for the most part, and BTW, it wasn’t exactly an original story, it was very much Batman Begins only with Clark instead of Bruce, I feel Zack didn’t seem to get the character, which saddened me as I was greatly looking forward to a new Superman movie. The effects were excellent, the actors were very good I thought, and I also thought the opening Kryptonian sequence was excellent. The characterization of pre Superman Clark, Jonathan Kent, and the story were deeply flawed, however. You’re free to love the movie, but I think even Smallville did a far better job of portraying Young Clark.

He never tried to move the battle outside of Metropolis and was arguably culpable for the mass destruction and death. The fact is that Snyder never believed that anyone could be as wholesome or earnest as Superman and said as much. He deconstructed the character, changed his upbringing and made him an outcast so that he would fit into the much darker and dour version that we saw in Man of Steel, BvS and JL. Usually, when Clark goes to Metropolis, he's already figured out who he is, what he is, and what he wants to be. He also doesnt try to be "Normal", he IS normal. But the show seemed to want the anime trope of the unexperienced hero having to find himself or whatever, and I just dont think that fits clark. @@eddiediaz5518 Yes, which is true. They were going for that realistic take. I saw that movie, mind you. That movie touched me. Doesn't mean there isn't room for a different kind of story telling. Besides, you can tell what Man of Steel was going for in the beginning, and the story it was supposed to unfold during it's supposed trilogy. You can see snippets of it in BvS. The world is realistic, and they introduced Superman as a catalyst of change. First was the destruction of krypton, shadowing what to come if Earth was to continue in its trajectory. Then we are showed both ideologies, a fearful human, and a wishful thinking kryptonian. Both enlightening our protagonist's mind, and ultimately leading him to his final decision. With all his powers he chose to put his life on the hands of those that persecuted him, willing to betray him for their life. How biblical. This showed in both movies, where he gave himself up to the army and the court--and was supposed to break humanity's mind and follow his lead in Justice League. Because when he died, they would realize that they actually needed him, and that their fear of him was unwarranted. But... whiny people--you know? It's actually crazy how it(the story) juxtaposes with how most people react to the movies. And that's why most "Snyderverse Fans" think these movies will be a classic one day. Because most people missed the point in the beggining, and slowly realize what the story was all about in the end. Me? I just wish we saw what Zack and his team was going for in the beginning without the "critique" debacle. Actually an inspiring take on live-action superhero movies. Much like his Watchmen.

If we are playing by the rules of reality, superman has more muscle mass than Faora the kryptonian chick so he should easily outmatch her with strength where she would outmatch him with speed and Zod should outmatch him with skill and the other guy who we never got a good look at should outmatch him with strength. Also, super beings punching super beings should if we are to follow logic, cause damage to each other no deferent than normal people fighting. Where are the black eyes, the fat lips, the broken arms, the broken neck? Wait....where's the consistency... And how does an inexperienced superman get a trained general in a headlock? Did Clark join the military? Where did he get his training? And where is the back story of how Superman fell in love with Louis they are all of a sudden, a couple is Zack Snyder, an amateur?

Its all about the visuals instead of the characters themselves. Cavill has never played Superman. He looks like Superman but the direction he was given wasn't the character. Same with Batman. When you mess up the Trinity you have already lost and a film with the 3 and you don't break a billion dollars is a problem. The orginal Superman film has some issues but is far better written than Man of Steel. He learns from being raised by humans the right lessons in the orginal film. Lessons he was getting from his dead father in Man of Steel. The issues you raise about Man of Steel are the same issues I had with the writing as well.

If you think financial side of things decide what is success then 1) Snyder still wins since only when movies started with Him were successful (Aquaman was filming parallel when JL was still his) 2) all superhero movies are trash since R-rated Deadpool about literally who outdid every single one, especially when we you your math even Avengers 3 and 4 should've make MUCH more money to compare with Deadpool, a development hell made movie that accidentally got finished In Superman The Movie he learns that humans are fragile and will never meet up to him after he forced his dad to run which caused his heart attack. Then reverses time just to save Lois (not even to undo second rocket hit and undo earthquakes). Then he abandons all of his powers so he can have sex with Lois and finally live normal life, if not for the bully at the bar, who he will antagonize (Donner Cut, since it happened after total time reverse of everything that happened after Zod's phantom zone prison break) and beat him up with his powers. Amazing. Meanwhile in SnyderVerse Superman learns how to help people while doing as little damage in process as possible, he doesn't have priviledge of reversing time (yet) and despite many mistakes he still pushes forward and helps everyone he can, even saved Lex from Doomsday afterhe kindpapped and threw Lois from the building, after he had goons kidnap his foster mother and not to mention after all these people he killed before that. And original Superman by Siegel could very well just let him die, wouldn't be out of character at all.

In the Snyder verse they destroyed smallville and metropolis. But I didn't hold that against the film. In the orginal movie Superman was helping people the whole time. In the Snyder film Superman was helping people the whole time but he learned a very different lesson in the Snyder verse than in any other version including the comics from his human parents. Remember when Johnathan Kent told him he should have let those people die to protect who he is. While his Kryptonain father said he is to be the beacon of hope. His human mother told him to do what you want because you don't owe these people anything. His human father sacrificed his own life to give Clark the less of hiding. No he didn't force his dad to run. That would have happened to a human kid. He learned that no matter how powerful he is or what he can do he can't save everyone. He literally says that in the film. Wow you literally are trying to give him credit for films he had nothing to do with and they out performed his films. Here's a fun fact for you. Man of Steel with a iconic character that the entire world knows, earned 219 million while Deadpool a character that is far from Superman status earned 700 million. Aquaman 1.148 billion dollars and Snyder didn't do that film. Batman v Superman earned 872.7 million and Snyder did do that film. A movie with the Trinity is out performed by Aquaman. Really my guy? No the bully didn't beat him up with his powers in Superman the movie. Are you sure you were paying attention to the film? Yes he gives up his powers to be with Lois. He regains them when he finds out about the threat of Zod. Snyder's Superman didn't give up his powers to be with Lois but he is whipped. First piece and he fell in love. 😆 But I don't have a problem with that either. The problem is this moping around non beacon of hope that he doesn't become until Justice League. But if you think that was very Superman to allow Jonathan to sacrifice himself by letting a tornado suck him up then that's you. I don't recall that in the comics or any other story line Mr factual. As a comic fan we know why Superman is wearing the Black suit but anyone who hasn't read the comics doesn't. It's not explained in a 4 hour movie so in his universe it's just a fashion statement. Also you all knowing comic book Snyder fans didn't show up or aren't enough of you to keep that universe going. You all cried about losing Cavill but when the Rock opened the door to bring him back where were you guys? Like I said Batman v Superman should have broken a Billion easy but it didn't. First on screen appearance of Wonder Woman. First on screen appearance of Superman and Batman together. All 3 together and it loses to Aquaman. Snyder decided to skip character development because you all read the comics and he wasted the death of Superman, one of DC's iconic stories. Much in the way fox wasted the phoenix story twice. Yeah you know comics and I don't. 😆 🤣 I wouldn't have said that. Snyder reads the books he just poorly executed the use of his knowledge and mashed things together that he liked. Many fans of the comics, who out number you Snyder fans left the theaters with one question on their minds. Does this guy understand these characters? In the books Batman has plans for his plans. Yet Snyder's Batman just wings it and hopes for the best. He had no plan to deal with Superman when they brought him back to life. In the comics he wasn't actually dead by the way. At least Whedon gave that to Batman.

Why does he refer to them as his people when he's been living on Earth all his life? And also, that scene is so stupid as he is so vague and doesn't go into any detail...it just becomes an opportunity for Martha to have a nice big monologue. If that wasn't the best example of a time for Clark to have a monologue, I don't know what else is. Which sheds light on how the writers and creative team behind the film felt about Superman. We can blame some of RJ's writing thanks to the fact there wasn't an overall plan(unlike the prequels, for example). He did the best he could, did some new and interesting stuff, but the majority hated it because we had novels and comics later where Luke was a super powerful Jedi with sheer immunity to the Dark Side and a "never give up"personality(compared to the cynical character he is in the film, which I was actually fine with, as it made way more sense to me). Snyder tried to make the universe his own. Snyder, the man who said Batman Begins would have been better if Bruce was raped in prison in the beginning. Snyder is such an edgelord he didn't try to respect the characters, but made them more to his liking. Superman is a gritty moody Jesus Archetype who loves only two people(Lois and Martha), but in no way loves humanity, already effing up his character. Saves Lois a thousand times in MOS alone, but not a single other bystander. Batman is an angry killer who murders normal thugs and brands them, but has not killed any of his main rogues gallery(how are Killer Croc, Joker and Harley still alive enough to appear in the first(crappier)"Suicide Squad"?)and does CrossFit while having sixty dream sequences that take up more time in the movie than the actual fight. Lex Luthor was better as a cheesy land baron than the weird quirky Joker/Riddler knockoff Eisenberg played. Doomsday went from the monstrous alien experiment that was made immune to almost everything to a crappy Teenage Mutant Cave Troll goon. The straight to video DC animated did him better. I know people hate TLJ, I'm one of the few who like it, but RJ did what he could(I would compare him to Joss Whedon, who had to put Snyder's garbage film and make a watchable movie of the mess.)

Ah, the perplexing transformation of Superman from the paragon of goodness to a brooding, stressy-depressy figure - a shift that left even a non-diehard superhero aficionado like myself scratching their head. Superman, for me, has always embodied pure, unadulterated goodness, standing in stark contrast to the gritty demeanor of Batman. Yet, in this era of gritty reboots, it seems everyone, including the Man of Steel, is getting a gritty makeover. How utterly... nonsensical. Then why stop there? Let’s make Wonder Woman into a “Gone Girl”psychopath since we are on a roll here. The Snyder cut of Justice League did manage to capture the essence of my favorite superheroes coming together in all their glory, a sight to behold indeed. However, let's address the elephant in the room - why the need to turn Superman into a potential Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders? Even in the original Justice League, the one that aimed to showcase the “ lighter side “epic tale of their unity, they couldn't resist portraying Superman as a looming, intimidating figure. Sure, the whole "he didn't know who he was" excuse fits the bill for a larger-than-life character, but did they have to make him look downright scary? I found myself tiptoeing around whenever Superman graced the screen, unsure if he was about to unleash his inner sociopath on his mom or girlfriend. The supposed beacon of virtue and "goody toe shoes" had me on edge, fearing what twisted turn his character might take next. Call me old-fashioned, but I never signed up for a Superman-induced anxiety trip. Give me the Superman of yesteryears, the one who embodied hope and unwavering goodness, not this brooding enigma with a potential dark side.- that’s wtf we have Batman for. I concur with your assessment!

YES, this is the video I have been looking for. And I want to rant, too, so read it if you want. Growing up, being bullied and having little friends at school, watching the TV and seeing Superman and the Justice League and reading the comics changed my outlook in life. Superman, especially, was my favorite, surprisingly not Batman. A symbol of hope, sticks up for the underdog, saves lives. But most importantly, he is from Earth, who grew up at a home, had parents, went to school, yadda yadda. He gets excited when he visits his mom and dad, he's awkward around women like Lois, he is super friendly to people like Kara and Jimmy Olsen, and most of all, he is an optimist. Looking at the bright side of things, never even thinks about arguing with his parents or authorities, and gives others a chance to know him better. That's why Batman and the League respects him, that's why Metropolis loves him, not what he does in MOS or BvS. He is Kryptonian, but above all else he is human. Superman is not my favorite character now because of these Hollywood movies, and that's sad to me. His animated versions, like in Allstar, DCAMU, The Elite, and yes, TAS and JL/JLU have been done better. Heck, that one scene in Superman Returns where he lifts a freaking island full of Kryptonite had me more inspired than the new movies. Many of the Superman stories I wanted to see done in live action, like a proper adaptation of Death of Superman or Allstar Superman, will likely be imossible now due to success of the Snyderverse. You are right, Marvel had them beat in the movie department. Watching DC movies, it just has good scenes, but not a lot of good everything. Warehouse scene, Big Three vs Doomsday scene, armies vs Steppenwolf scene, 7 facing Darkseid scene, I just skip to those. Why waste time trying to slog through the whole movie. WW, Shazam, Aquaman, and 2021 Suicide Squad are the only ones I can watch and finish. People do call him Superman, but he is not Superman. Or to phrase it better, not the Superman I know. The Superman we have now is a nihilist named Kal El, who occasionally calls himself Clark, who is petty, edgy, let his dad die, destroyed a small town and a city, and is a simp who calls Lois his 'world'. The Superman I know is an average guy named Clark Kent, who loves his family, calls his teammates friends, and loves not just Lois, but also the world, the people, and will fight for those people. He inspired me to admire heroes, to hope, as he probably did for others.

@Erik Kemeey No he didn't. Zod took *SUPERMAN* into space. Watch the scene. Zod knocks Superman through a row of buildings. Then when superman tries to orient himself when he passes through the last building, Zod grabs Superman and drags him straight up into orbit. Superman throws Zod off of him while they are in orbit, and Zod has to dig his hands into the Wayne Tech satellite to keep from flying off into space. He then throws the satellite at Superman and flies through it for a sneak attack, Superman manages to catch Zod and starts punching the crap out of him while they freefall to Earth. Yes, I said freefall because there's no way in hell either of them are aiming for any location in particular; they are too busy trying to gain the upper hand in the fight. Despite the fact that the Earth's rotation would place them miles away from Metropolis (and possibly into a new city Zod could attack), they somehow end up falling back in Metropolis anyway. Superman is apparently winning at this point because he has a firm grip on Zod and is in an attack position while they fall into Metropolis and into the building prior to the family and the neck snap.

what's even crazier, I feel like they could of have Superman trying to save civilians from dying by stopping abuilding from collapsing on them, stop a bolder to crush them, anything from their destruction and Zod, who notices this, would of use Superman's care for the people as his weakness, which forces the final climax that he could of snapped his neck, or like you said, just knocked him out. I may like the film, but even I know that isn't superman.

@@FirstnameLastname-my7bz look, I get it it's supposed to be a darker take and edgy take to Superman, but it's not Superman if all they do is showcase just the powers. He's a man, not an alien. [yes I know Bats said that in JL, but I mean show don't tell] Even if Zack has his reasons, Superman's known to never kill due to he doesn't want to break the world. He always finds a different way. This is the opposite of what Superman does. death and destruction happens yes, and villain's will have to have the heroes make the tough call, but the reason why not a lot of people like it is because Superman isn't superman without the heart. I don't know who didn't like Superman being Superman and prefer him to just punch the daylights out of a villain, but they clearly don't know why Superman is great. I thought Superman Returns, despite feeling like they copy and paste his quotes a bit, felt like Superman. Even the animated DC movies felt like Superman. Even the movie Superman vs the elites is a similar situation. Was it a show, yes but imagine that in live action.

Not to mention, your opinion to those who claim that killing his opponents gives superman more depth and realism, rather than writing him as supposedly an unrealistic and as they describe nauseating power fantasy character that loves smile too much and preaches to much according to them.
