Why Man of Steel isn't very good

Фильм және анимация

Recently I have been getting into a lot of arguments with people on X, the everything app, mostly relating to how superman was depicted in the 2014 to 2021 DC Extended Universe. Or DCEU for short. Which was the, mostly, Zack Snyder led franchise of movies centered around the DC universe of Superheroes. It acted as a direct counter to everything Marvel was doing with the MCU that started 5 years earlier… and is still going almost 3 years after… something must have happened outside of their control. I mean, the movies at least have to have been good right…

    The bus and tornado scene highlight flaws in this approach to superman. The bus scene turns him into an idiot, who would push a bus in front of witnesses. Not only that but the implication of a hero complex, doing it so he can be seen as a hero. The tornado scene, why didnt Pa kent trust Clark to rescue the dog? Would the father of a firfighter run into a burning building if his firefighter son was standing next to him because he didn't want to put his son in danger? This movie only has one redeeming scene, when Clark flies for the first time, and we get a glimpse of the real superman

    Personally i don’t hate man of steel but also I don’t think all that good either. Dare I say that the movie is kinda boring and forgettable, like I get baffled when someone says it’s one of the top 10 superhero movies bc I genuinely don’t see how. I mean the movie has great cinematography, action, and the very best thing that came out of this movie was definitely the first flight scene, every thing else like the actual story itself is kinda mediocre, but overall it’s just ok 👌.

    I feel like this whole 36 minute video could've been shaved down to like less than 10, it wasn't very snappy, pace was really slow, the talking points felt unscripted with a lot of dead air. A video should go in beats, like a dance or a song, all to retain attention and interest, this one lost me after 8 minutes.

    thank you for the criticism actually, i'll try to make it a little simpler in the future although i will say the original recording was an hour long and i really tried to cut it down without it being super jump cut focused. i think that next time i'll be a little more focused on the important parts instead of cramming like 3 videos into one (although it was very scripted btw i am just bad at following the scripts)

    Man of Steel was a fantastic movie. I loved the message of it, the tone of it, the themes in it. It felt like Superman for the 21st century, which was needed. I grew up with the Chris Reeve movies which I love to death and rewatch every chance I get but Man of Steel reignited my passion for Superman again. I will forever love that movie. For all it's flaws, I do stand by this single opinion. Of all the superman films we've ever gotten, none have depicted superman's 'alien-ness' as well as man of steel. That movie gave us the most fully realised krypton we've ever seen on the big screen. When the planet died in the opening minutes of the film, It truly felt like the loss of a world, an entire rich civilisation. Everything that has to do with krypton and kryptonians as an alien entity/civilisation is executed wonderfully. But because zach snider doesn't understand superman's humanity. Which is his most important aspect. And because he doesn't understand Clark Kent, who IS what makes superman superman. We were left with a broken symbol. And a film that just ended in the worst way, killing the character within his own debut

  • @oscilao5872

    @oscilao5872

    5 күн бұрын

    @@Sunnysunshower I think that the biggest problem is that Zack focused so much on the alien side. we don’t see a lot of it in other media because it isn’t important. krypton only exists to justify some of the supernatural elements of his stories, his humanity is what makes the story actually interesting. I hated Superman for a long time mainly because of this movie failing to understand that nobody actually cares about krypton, we see enough of it in the Donner films to help viewers understand that it existed and that is all anyone needs. also i think krypton looked ugly in Man of Steel so I didn’t even get that enjoyment out of it

    Man of Steel is bad for two reasons Superman has no personality and Jonathan Kent died by a tornado. This film is a terrible way to introduce Superman's character. It felt like Manchester Black made a Superman film. Superman: The Movie is superior to this film in every way possible. Christopher Reeve will always be the greatest Superman in the movies. The Suicide Squad tanked at the box office while other films during the shutdown made bank. It's funny how the only James Gunn films that are talked about are the one that are controlled by Feige. The MCU machine is the reason why GOTG is a success but none of the films crossed over to a billion dollars. Do you expect the Superman film to cross a billion? IMO Gunn and Snyder are one in the same, directors with a certain flaw. DC needs a producer in charge to be successful. A producer who has his eyes and hands on everything to keep the directors in check. Heart isn't going to get you to a billion dollars and a successful universe. @@user-be7tc2bd6e Clark Kent is as much Superman as Superman, but Clark is just his way of being a person and living a full life. He doesn't tell people because he doesn't want to always be seen as superman because that's not really who he is, Superman is an exaggerated version of Clarks alien side as much as "Clark Kent" is an exagerated version of Clarks human side

    The problem with KZreadrs is they lie a lot for views. This video is full of lies and incorrect statement about a comic character and film which is too bad. Bro be honest in your videos, do research then post. Lying is wack. Base on your logic all Superman films are bad except Superman Returns? Your logic says so. So either your lying or have to do TONS of research. 23

    @@oscilao5872 you do your research. For every statement you make about MOS put that same logic to the other films and see how that logic holds up. The dos and donts of the character. I did, and was pretty shocked with the results. That's why I was surprised by the claims in your video. I'm thinking like did you watch other films about Superman?

    Clown, Man of Steel is the best superman movie to date. Zack treated superman as a character with actual character development. Idiots wanted the same boring shit and Zack gave us a masterpiece instead.

    @@Auron1Roxas2 what character development. he doesn’t do anything for like an hour and a half and then kills someone. they could have had so many super easy hits when it comes to character arcs, have a scene where maybe clark says that like “journalism is a useless job” and Jonathan can be like “it let’s you protect people with knowledge.” or some shit, that way we can have john be not wanting clark to do heroism and risk his identity but still show respect for people who do want to protect people. It would also make the ending scene being one where Clark decides to become a journalist randomly just because his girlfriend works there, make sense. it’s like 2 or 3 lines of dialogue that would add ANY character development to this movie, but it just doesn’t have any of that. the movie goes out of it’s way to not show us characters developing in a realistic, maturely written manner

    @@Auron1Roxas2 No. Man of Steel is one of the worst Superman movies to date that doesn't understand the basics of who Superman is and what he stands for. There are plenty of animated Superman movies that are far better than Man of Steel. Man of Steel was never a masterpiece.
