My dad was killed a year and a half ago in a hit and run accident. He was my rock, I was his tag along, trying to go everywhere he went and tried to do everything he did. I first heard this song on the radio about a week after he died, it never ceases to make me bawl like a baby.

Lost my dad suddenly 10 years ago. Went to wake him up to ask him to go eat breakfast and he was gone. Mom died 8 years before him and I was an only child. 3 years ago I was with my wife, our 2 little girls, and our son on vacation in Florida. After getting settled in I went to the grocery store to get things we needed and this song came on, which I had never heard before. It took me the better part of 5 minutes after to collect myself so I could go in to shop. It was horrible losing my best friend, my idol, and my dad. But the worst part is that he never got to meet his grandchildren and after his passing, roughly 2 years after, I got very successful in my career and I always wonder how proud he would have been of me. I try my very best to raise my kids as well as he raised me. He made me so much a better person, and I hope to get to thank him one day.

My old man never met his grandkids either (he met his daughter-in-law). -- 6 months after Dad died, I was in a grocery store, and saw some avocados, I thought Oh, I will buy dad a couple.... As I reached for them, I recalled, no, no I guess I won't. -- bothering ever hurt as much as losing my old man.

Thank you Sushi for playing this song. I lost my dad a year ago. I heard the line about feeling the callous on his hands. My dad’s hands were so calloused and rough from hard work, if he ever got arrested (which he never did) they would not have been able to take his fingerprints. The part of the song about meeting him again, that really got me choked up. Thank you ❤️

This song is soo hard for me to listen too without crying. I lost my ol’ man on 2/9/22. half of me died when I got the call of his passing. I stayed by his side for 5 hours until the corners took him, I still remember the coldness of holding his hand. I love you paps, the girls miss you like crazy. Hope I’m making you proud. Love , Jojo

I buried my Father 4 months ago. I played this song at his funeral. I couldn’t even give his eulogy, my wife had to do it for me. Which I appreciate her more than anyone could know. My Father was my Superhero. Did we have times when I was young that we didn’t agree,of course we did. He was laid to rest with military honors (retired Air Force). This song just really hits home. Love and miss him everyday. I just never thought about what it would be like to say goodbye forever.

This song means more to me than any song ever released. I lost my father in late 2018 of ALS he was only 64. I get cheated of years with him. I spent most of my time with. We work together my whole life and hung out when we weren’t working. He was my best friend. I’ve had a very hard time moving on from his death but I’m getting better slowly.

Your eyes seem to sweat a lot, don't worry mine do too sometimes. Your reaction to Brad Paisley, He didn't have to be is the same as mine. I am 42, have served my country in "uniform" for 24 years, and was adopted at 4 days old, into a family with 5 other siblings, all girls. My dad never made me feel like I wasn't his, and since his name is Guy, I always tell him that he is the best "Guy" that I know. Never lose your heart. God bless you and yours.

Sushi, there are a lot of men & women who wished they had parents ( Moms & Dads ) who they could look up to as expressed in this music video. Unfortunately, there is the other side of the coin, where there wasn't/aren't such role models, and that hurt is really deep and last forever or at least a lifetime !!! Just being real, it is so right to experience these feelings good/bad, and dealing with them in a healthy/positive way. Always, Syn Silver !!!

You need to listen to Zac Brown Band - Highway 20 Ride. It’s about a father who doesn’t have custody of his son and the sacrifice he makes to see his son.
