I have the black version of these sitting stereo in my living room right now. For $225, HOLY COW they sound amazing. Thanks Z!
Thank you Zeos for blessing us with the speaker reviews. I appreciate ya!
I see you're getting cozy with that HSU CCB-8 on the couch back there. I'm eagerly awaiting your review on them. Nice job on the RBH R5iR's, they really hit the budget sweet spot.
Omg you keep on bringing out reviews and I get so excited thinking it's the Yamaha HS8 but it's always something else

Soon my child. Gotta spread out these speaker reviews so I can use them with headphones.
Well damn. I just picked up some Fluance Signature Series for my desktop. Now this review drops. Time to spend more money.
I sure hope you get to do this for the rest of your life too. I'm really looking forward to Zreviews from a walker, by which time you should be putting out that Infinity Subwoofer review ;)

Hey Zeo. Awesome review and great to see some RBH lovin' up in here. I've had a pair of R5Ti's now for about 4 years and have loved them through and through. Not only are they an amazing hidden gem in the speaker market, but I got a pair for under $400 on clearance. With all that being said, I've been drooling over the Ohm Walsh speakers that you reviewed a week or so ago. I know it's hard to compare towers to the sound of those bookshelves, but with somewhat of a reference for the build quality of RBH, do you think it would be worth the upgrade to the Ohm Walsh? Or should I stick with my RBHs for a good while longer? Keep up the reviews, they are awesome as always.
When I was much younger I used to go to a HiFi shop called Brady's in Liverpool your room reminded me of their sound auditioning room.
How do these compare to Kef Q100 and Elac B6.2 for 2 channel music?
If I got these for home theater, what center would be small an work great?
I just bought a pair of these, I realized they were hand crafted by our lord and savior when I was watching a linus video that played a fly buzzing sound effect and I completely believed that spacially the fly was next to me. Actually I thought it was a wasp and ran out of my room screaming FUCK and did a thorough investigation of my house finding no wasps. Resumed the linus video, found the error of my ways and just as I was about to relax, BOOM a fucking giant wasp appeared dyhdrated right at my feet. Turns out I have great speakers and a wasp infestation

These, air motif 6, jamo, etc for classical symphony orchestra..need something that has clarity but warm?
I've got these and I love them. What would be a good headphone that has a sound signature sort of close to these speakers?
Are there any recommendations for a $100-$250 range for non powered speakers for the desk? (Lets say for the HIFI college student budget)
Hey Z, do you think you will review the Bowers & Wilkins 685 S2 bookshelves?
Any chance of you reviewing the JBL 550p or 560p subwoofer? You probably have a long list of reviews to come, but could you consider adding one of those on there? :)
will you get the KEF LS50? please sir.
When are you reviewing from the Dynaudio X series? Maby a head to head with the Bushardt s300 ;) Two Danish speakers
How do these compare to Martian Logan motion series speakers
If you really want to get RBH speakers wait for Black Friday as they give them a great discount.. About four years ago I ordered an Aperion Intimus 5.1 surround system during Black Friday, then kept searching and stumbled on EMP Tek which is RBH... Ordered the Impression series 5.1 (towers instead of bookshelf) which were only a little more than the Aperion and I've been a super happy camper since... I think their speakers are amazing for the price...

Angel C Good fdbk...Black Friday.
Hi would you be able to do a review of Monitor Audio MR6? They are cheap good quality floor standers and I think many people would be very happy with them...
Zeos, do you ever compare amplification with speaker reviews, esp. budget reviews? The reason I ask is that I don't imagine everyone is going to be monoblocking their tiny budget standmount speakers. More likely to be using an old pre-hdmi AVR. It'd be interesting to know which speakers vary most between best and worst-case amplification, and by how much. No point saving $100 on speakers if you need to spend an extra $300 on power to run them.
When are you going to review the RSL CG4 speakers?
I wish you would demo and review some Def Techs. Especially the Studio Monitor 45's which is what I have. I'd like to know how they compare to other bookshelves you've reviewed that's $400 a pair or less. I got mine on sale for $320. Get some and review them then take them back! 👍🏼
a chuffing port quick fix is cut a bunch of straws (same length as port) fill with straws don't squeeze ...but tight
Currently looking to upgrade my PC setup from the MB42x's (driven by Emotiva Mini X a-100). I had originally decided on the Audioengine P4's because they sound great, are small/lightweight and easily bracket-mountable via the threaded inserts. Now I'm torn again as these hit EVERY one of my criteria and they're cheaper...
Could you please review the Dayton MK402 (non-bluetooth). I bought a pair based on positive reviews along with the Dayton SUB-1000. This is my budget re-entry into audio after 10 years. Hoping this is a decent setup until I can get back to building my own speakers.
I don't remember if I asked this already Z, but I'm really curious about what you think of the Kef q100s especially since they're front ported and have the cake frosting phase plug since you seem to like that haha. Anyways, glad to see you reviewing speakers again.
Hey Z, the magic you mentioned usually is that intangible thing we can't touch upon. However, the tweeters as you point out are supreme & the midrange unreal from the 5 1/4 in. woofers. I heard that high-hat sizzle in a way that normally is only heard in a live setting or a really expensive, pro, desktop mixing console speaker pair. Even over KZread l can hear the realism in the symbol & high-hat reproduction. Felt like l was in the recording studio again. In person these speakers must the best
i am looking for just a music speaker.what would you prefer buchardt, jamo c93, rbh r5bir or any other speaker. thanks

Buchard S300 is my pick.
Screw you Zeos... I bought the Fluance signature thanks to you (I did get them for $150 used from Fluance) I am still pretty happy with my purchase... that's my personality I guess, I try to work with what I got... plus the fluance still have these beaten on looks (those jamos tho!) Also the Cambridge Audios dropped $50 for both the sx-50 and sx-60 putting them right in the territory of these speakers...
These were the Emp Tek's that are now re-badged as the RBH's and were available 2 years ago on Black Friday for $168 a pair. I feel like I stole them at that price.
Review some Q Acoustics. Those getting some rave reviews. I think I'm done with headphones and just gonna get a speaker setup. Just don't know which speakers to get. Probably become like headphones where you wanna get it just to hear how it sounds. Then you end up with a room full of speakers.
you can put straws in the port to stop the chuff hope this helps gareth
I see swans, I've sworn by those since the early 2000s. Those look like the mark iii, very very very nice on a desk.
If you haven't yet it would be cool to hear your thoughts on bone conduction stuff eventually.
when do the kefs come ? :)
, thank you so much for saying the magic phrase finally, "It's what you prefer" in a loud speaker because there are so many speakers to choose from in the sub 500 dollar range that are so good in their own way it's just totally ridiculous.
these or Fluance signature ?
May I suggest a kef ls50 vs svs ultras comparison
If you're focusing on value for home theater, then you should compare the R5BiR's to the Chane 1.4's. $279 a pair ($54 more, but in-range IMHO), but with the planar ribbon tweeter and long-throw woofer.
So now that you're getting into the "best speakers under 500 bracket", I'd recommend you review next the Ascend acoustics CBM-170 speakers or the kef Q100.
Those enclosures are at parts express for $157 each. he should have used the precision port, which significantly cuts down the chuffing. (also PE)
For that price point, you should do something weird and try putting together one of those Fostex BK-16 kits from Madisound.
would be pretty ez to get rid of the port noise. Just router out a 2 inch hole in the back and experiment/model with different length pvc pipe to get the right tuning frequency.
Z, any solutions/recommendations/advice for those with receivers/preamps that don't have bass management capabilities?

Play them quieter, That is about it.
Love the Demolition Man quote at 14:44 :D
Demo the ATC SCM7 if you can. Listened to them against Kef LS50, PMC Twenty.21, Sonus Faber etc Oh my god they are incredible. Same shape as these but sealed box. They have the magic!
I'm torn between the R5BiR and the KEF Q100. Any input? Frankly, I prefer the look of the RBH's over the boxy KEF's, so if the sound quality is a toss-up, I'll lean towards the RBH's. And I do feel like the RBH's sound a bit more "magical" than the Q100's.
@Steverino_cappucino

Peter Phan I have both. They are more similar than different. Of course you can no longer buy the old r5birs anymore. The new model RBH replaces these with is much more expensive and therefore the kefs are very hard to beat for the money. are very hard to beat
Is there a difference between the R5Bi and the R5BiR? Can't find the R anywhere, but the R5Bi is available on their site.

Saw the review and I was all "I don't have a lot of money so I'll look on Ebay". found nothing. I back and there is a link to the site, I click on the link and its to the speakers. I scroll down and see they have them on clearance so I pick up a pair for $170 total and I check back in an hour later and they are sold out. I come to find out it was a summer clearance event and I picked up one of the last pairs if not the last on the sale. feels amazing man, especially since I almost stuck with my SX6's and bought the F12 sub.
review on the swans?
thankyou for remembering the penny pinchers.
RBH HP2 headphones are also very nice for the price and they only have a few KZread reviews.

Thanks for the advice as usual, I sorted the amp and the headphones, my site now is on my home cinema system, since I blew almost $3000 on the headphones and the amp, I have a tight budget for the home cinema system. Z Reviews So I'm looking to get a 2.1 system for my room. My budget is around $1,000 total. I was looking at the klipsch rf-82 ii towers. I found them for $719 a pair. That doesn't leave me much room for a receiver or sub but from watching your videos I've gathered that it's more important to buy the best speakers you can afford. So I'm considering buying the towers and a receiver for now and then getting a sub down the road. Is this what you would recommend or should I go with cheaper speakers and a decent sub from the start. Also what alternatives should I be looking at in this price range. I was looking at the svs prime towers but you didn't like them and I know you don't like Polk either. If you only had $1000 for a 2.1 home theater system with the occasional music ( hip hop, rock, edm) what would you get?
@Ryuuken24
7 жыл бұрын
Speakers don't matter as much as a good amp. If you buy speakers above 500 dollars, you're losing the plot. Just get a pair of klipsch bookshelf speakers and a sub, more than enough for a decent amp, also try to get a demo of what you're buying.

Not entirely sure what you mean by Bass CHUFF, unless ofcourse you mean that at a certain volume the speakers start sounding like a steam train lol, beyond that I enjoy your reviews.
