Getting some hints in this video about WHAT they are looking for and HOW, but still seem to be holding back the Details that anyone with college physics could tune into.

I remember Brian Cox doing a documentary about this machine. He was stood in the test control room (the whole chamber has to be evacuated when it activates) when it's turned on. When it pulsed he said the whole ground lifted up several inches as it swelled with raw power. And that was in the shielded control room!

oh how far physics has come from the first year stuff of pulleys and weights and things floating in water tubs. I’d love to work in this kind of facility. I left physics for engineering but the idea of doing experiments for stuff that’s more in the realm of theory is really cool

High error attempt at calculating the time for the Z-Machine to cook a Hot Pocket: A Hot Pocket requires 1:30 to cook in a 1100W microwave. That's about 37 Watt hours. 37 Watt hours is 133200 Joules. The Z-Machine fires for 2.7 megajoules per 95 nanosecond shot. Cooking a Hot Pocket then requires 0.0000493 Z-Machine shots. 0.004687 nanoseconds to cook a single Hot Pocket. Or a single shot could cook 1.629 million Hot Pockets. Cooking times may vary depending on the energy profile of the shot. At peak current the time is probably much shorter, this is just an average time over the entire shot.

@@BuffMyRadius But chances are you'll get a couple of Hot Pockets vaporized, a couple of thousand incinerated, several hundred thousand thawed out, and a big fraction of that million pretty much untouched. Around the border between the untouched and the thawed, you'll get a large thunk of gunk(tm.), i.e. HotPocket paste cooked onto the side of yer ver-ree expensive Sandia Labs niceclean freshpolished fancy metal toy.

@@TheDavidlloydjones with the Z-Machine's radial layout I'm sure there's the possibility to optimize the layout of the Hot Pockets into two hemispheres above and below the axis of the Marx generators. Because the Z-Machine generally is used to output x-rays I'm sure it's just a matter of putting Hot Pockets the correct distance away to make sure they get the necessary heating density.

And the fact that Honeywell owns the facility is not suspicious at all.

Your doing it all wrong. Why are we channeling all that energy in a split second through less than 1cm? It looks like your trying to ceate something specific... but to get it to work properly you have to generate that energy over long durrations pulsing through a larger port. Granted the power source would have to come from a some kind of fusion powered reactor with the ability to withstand lightning strikes... also I would channel this energy into an oscillator with the capacity to hold and capture this pulse of energy. Then we could power the world off of one supply source.

The Z-Machine also gets used for high energy astrophysics and inertial confinement fusion research. The research they are doing directly contributes to efforts to mitigate anthropogenic climate change.
