From what I've followed the NIF research still shows the symmetrical direct-drive approach for the hohlraum fusion project is the most energetic of the three processes for ignition. Anyone else know differently? I've been following this loosely for a while, so if you have more current info or interesting links please post them.

With that don't you already have the building blocks for the pulse engine you want ?

@Prometheus1st Direct drive is the most energy efficient-however it is also the least stable i.e indirect drive is said to create a far more uniform compression. I personally think Tokamak style hold the greatest promise. However that is not to say Z pinch devices should be abandoned.

Does anyone remember the beginning sequence of the legendary HALF-LIVE Shooters first version? "Now push that thing into the thick of that beam, Dr. Freeman!" I'm going to fetch my crowbar now.

@@Outlawstar0198 It is very fulfilling to be apart building something that is still in full operation today. Everyday was a new adventure. Sometimes things didn't always go as planned but there was always someone who could work through the problem to get the project back on track. What I think of what it takes for hundreds of engineers, designers and technicians to come together to build such an intricate machine, I wonder what else we can do if we put our minds to it.

u're wrong here for sure. it's not that energy appears out of nothing, u free it during fusion - so he was right here, u put less energy in than u receive ;) otherwise research would be pointless here :'o
