For those who do not know him, he is Yuzuru Hanyu. He is 25-years old but holds 19 world records, is 2-times Olympic Gold Medalist (the first man since 1952), the first male skater to achieve super slam (winning every major skating competition in both junior and senior categories), 2-times World champion, 4-times Grand Prix Final champion, first man to land 4 loop in international competition and more. However, he was born with asthma but loves skating since he started skating at the age of 4 ; is a survivor of Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 when he was 16 years old and had to run for his life while training in ice rink, when his house was entirely destroyed and had to live in evacuation center and shared limited amount of food with others in the center ; suffered numerous injuries but never use his asthma or injury as an excuse; has donated around $4M from 2011 until now for the reconstruction of his hometown Sendai. Despite all of his achievements and hardships, he is still this humble, hardworking and cute cinnamon roll that we see here 😊

Ha ha, it's happened to me before. I managed to do an attitude spin (spinning on one leg while the other is bend so that the back of the blade is almost touching your back. Also, your back is arched and your hands are right in front of you) and was really proud, but when I stepped off the ice, I tripped on my toe-pick (sharp, pointy part of the blade, the part right on your toes) and hit my face against the floor. I felt really stupid after that.

Most frequent comment in this section: "I've never heard of him before, but" This is so sad actually. Yuzuru Hanyu really deserves to be listed among the greats of the sports world. It's long overdue. He is a genius on the ice, an inspirational person and draws in the big crowds wherever he goes.

It's just sad that particularly western media barely mentions him compared to other athletes like Messi, Ronaldo, Federer, Nadal, Woods, Hamilton, Bolt, Phelps... In his sport Hanyu is just as much of a big name and icon as they are (even if the ISU, national federations and media do everything in their might to erease his legacy and promote others, who cannot live up to it).

@@kflamberg Plus so many people have been posting negative things about him and his retirement post the WC 2021. I hate that people think one off-skate equals to retirement and completely forget the amount of contribution he's given to the sport and he still continues to push himself so hard. Poor boy had an asthma attack and people are just heartless commenting mean stuff. I'm so glad he's not on any social media. At least not publically.

he's the goat of figure skating (: hes the first male skater to get a grand slam, and ended up getting a silver metal in a separate competition a few years back after having a collision with another skater. he was bleeding from his head, bruised almost his whole body, hurt his midriff, sprained his ankle, got a concussion, and after the competition had to get multiple stitches in his head and chin. he really is remarkable.
