That is our perception of consciousness, but limiting it as a universal truth is a mistake. Many animals also have consciousness as you describe. Obviously it is not like us, but at the end of the day it is a kind of conscience and it seems prudent that we take it into account, not only to minimize cruelty towards them, but also to learn and better understand this magnificent aspect of nature

Incredible insights. Love the final message: we must hold the tech. companies' feet to the fire and hold them accountable to finding a solution to the current situation. Politicians NEED to stand together to force tech giants to be more accountable.

1:05: 📚 A warm welcome to the CogX Festival 2023, where the author of Sapiens and Homo Deus discusses current affairs and emerging risks of AI. 5:22: 🌍 The potential of new technology is both exciting and dangerous, as humans have a history of struggling to adapt to it. 10:00: ! The speaker discusses the importance of meditation in developing consciousness and observing what is happening. 14:23: 🤖 The most capable AI is the most dangerous, as it works in ways that we fundamentally do not understand. 19:00: 🌍 The best case scenario is the existence of living institutions, while the worst case scenario is no regulations and an arms race in geopolitics. 23:26: 💡 It is important to teach AI systems to doubt themselves and to build proactive defenses against unintended consequences. 27:59: 🌍 Investing in building human capability is as important as building AI capability for a sustainable future. You have a broad perspective on various AI use cases and their potential impact, stemming from your unique position outside of 'the industry,' as you mentioned in The Economist interview. Since then, how have you actively worked to bridge that knowledge gap and gain a deeper understanding of these phenomena and their evolution?

Good points on AI safety, which is linked to the question of cautiousness (we have to treat cautiousness AI as a child to avoid development issues as with humans), otherwise the focus should be on humans and ability to safely interact and use this tool. "Why is it that we have the best information technology in history people have lost the ability to have a conversation?" is directly linked to human development in information age, have more understanding of cognitive functions, importance of empathy (both intellectual and emotional), learn how to structure conversations, detect propaganda and manipulations filtering bad actors. States play a huge role in such development due to attempts to influence people's political positions. Which institution or organization do you recommend for AI safety?

Appreciate the concerns of Dr. Harari about the right use of AI. Practically, it may be next to impossible to allign the minds/hearts of political forces due to inherent arrogance in them. Theoretically, if the AI is tuned to modern day Buddha's mind & intention, it can only work for betterment of humanitarian needs. But, alligning theory & practice is again a big task; although that's the only way out! Regards!

Pls add that it can bankrupt governments because millions of people who work contribute tens of thousands of dollars during their lifetime. So even a few dozen million jobs lost means tens of billions of loss in revenue for government. That removes the safety net for millions and critical infrastructure which constantly improves our quality of life. Chaos first? Then once again more debt to provide universal basic income to the affected?

25:00 (aprox.) "AI is too much a gamble, we are gambling not only in our future as humans, a gamble for our life, we are gambling on the future of all life" We CAN safeguard or prohibit anything against KNOWN dangers. That's why we STUDY, LEARN and SAFEGUARD B E F O R E we use any new science. Following this sequence is all that is required. AI is not a risk for all life. The risk for all life is IGNORANCE! Human ignorance. What Prof. Harari said expresses his FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN. it is as unusual as easy to overcome: GO AND STUDY (AI).
