Humanity is not that simple | Yuval Noah Harari & Pedro Pinto
Join journalist Pedro Pinto and Yuval Noah Harari as they delve into the future of artificial intelligence (A.I.). Together, they explore pressing questions in front of a live audience, such as: What will be the impact of A.I. on democracy and politics? How can we maintain human connection in the age of A.I.? What skills will be crucial for the future? And what does the future of education hold?
Filmed on May 19 2023 in Lisbon, Portugal and produced by the Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos (FFMS), in what marks the first live recording of the show: "It's not that simple."

What I have seen personally about AI is a simple example. A student of mine---I was teaching English to working professionals as a second language---was a designer. When he learned how to speak English, in one of our discussions, I asked him if he liked to do sketches or drawings or paintings at the weekends. Silence. He finally answered that in his company, the drawing course was deleted from the curriculum because the AI program from Apple was sufficient for him to do his job without knowing how to draw. Let that sink in: he was a draughtsman who never learned how to draw and who never had to learn how to draw to do his job! Here is the clincher: when I asked him if he was curious about learning how to draw for example, for pleasure or to paint a picture, his response shocked me to the core. He said he was jaur fine like that; he didn't want to learn how to draw because his program did it for him. He saw no reason to learn how to draw. This is what I think we have to worry about; people will gladly give up having to learn a skill if AI assisted programs can do it for them. To me, this is a red flag. This is one small example and I think as a society we have to draw a line somewhere about what we will let AI do. One last thing; what was appalling to me was that the company that hired him as a draughtsman willingly deleted the basic drawing class that used to be required. A drawing teacher lost his job because of Apple's program.

Interesting. I am more familiar with Apple products than most, and I also happen to be an artist. As far as I know, Apple doesn’t have a first party application that draws for you but there are third party applications that can assist with the drafting process like autoCAD software. As an artist, I cringe at the idea of forfeiting all my sweat equity for AI to become the be-all and end-all. I create because I enjoy the simple yet ever complex process of creating. I wonder if your student feels the same or if he’s in it just for a payday

@@T3Z1993 GGGGGGGGGGGreat to hear from you. Thanks for fact-checking. I am only repeating what my former student told me, and what I understood was that all the people his age in the company never had to learn how to draw, the drawing class was deemed unnecessary by the administration. because the app could do the job. He said that all the people in the department who had learned how to draw could for example, draw a pair of glasses in perspective, whereas for him and his peers, it was much more difficult because they had never learned perspective. The most astounding thing for me is that he was not even curious to learn how to draw for his own pleasure! This is human nature: once you've got a dishwasher...

@@Rexcelot good luck getting people to adopt your odd definition of "Real AI™"; why must an AI create itself and create new AIs to be as intelligent or greater than humans? And your explanation of how AIs come up with thoughts is simply wrong, try learning about AI before you spout off. Large Language Models ingest vast amounts of data and adjust the weights between billions of artificial neurons in order to predict the next word (or pixel) in additional input. That forces them to build a representation of concepts and ideas and relationships so that their output in response to any prompt (advanced law degree exam, poetry writing, the Mona Lisa riding a unicycle) correct. Humans set up this training process but are absolutely not "inputting the data they want the AI to say"; they are heavily involved in later fine-tuning the model to generate text (and image) responses that are useful and not harmful for humans. How else do you propose a _language_ model become intelligent other than training on text produced by humans? You can imagine a robot learning to interact with the world on its own, but language is the core pathway through which we demonstrate most forms of intelligence (reasoning, story-telling, creativity, question answering, test-taking, etc.).
Do you hear that? Leaders are most concerned about people (the masses) believing something they don't want them to. Why? Because masses of people have power.

The only way to gain experience is by making mistakes aka learning = gaining practical knowledge. Not agree. You are not able to watch all the interviews in the world to say this is the best. It’s an interview where there’s a human being afraid of an overestimatd AI and an underestimated humanity.

They got us scared of UFO’s and aliens that they needed government aka your tax money to “protect” us from now they’ll get you a chip in your brain with a monthly fee you’ll pay to “protect” you from the “invisible danger of AI”. Interesting how only America brings this shit: we will get destroyed by UFO, then it’s pandemics, then nuclear wars now is AI so you pay a “protection” fee to then that create this fake narrative fake matrix to keep you scared of an invisible sick shit and you pay it without questioning. How dumb are you all? How asleep and hypnotized are you all???? Are you not tired of being lied to? Every century there is an invisible shit lie they make to access money from your hard working tax dollars and you stay and submit it annually? Satan. When Hitler is not available, you bring this monster??
Brilliant mind, very good questions too.
Unity is simple. Just stop believing differently than myself and agree that I'm right in everything and we will be united.
I bow to the wisdom of this young man - Yuval Noah Harari ❤

I think that enforcing a ban on artificial intelligence deceiving humans will not result in any significant impact. Rather, it will be the humans themselves who willingly and knowingly opt to seek guidance from artificial intelligence. We can observe a parallel phenomenon with social networks, where individuals willingly disclose their personal information.

When he compared that with being illegal to counterfeit money bills which is easy to do but would "collapse the system", that told me everything I needed to hear; "ai will have to be regulated by us and exclusively by us and if anyone tries to use it against use by using it to improve their own lives and pull themselves out of the slavery we hold them under then they will go to prison, just like if someone tries to print their own money therefore eliminating the need for the federal reserve and ending their monopoly on everything, taking the power away from the jewish bankers that control all the politicians to use the world as their playground"
"Why if we are so intelligent are we doing such stupid things ?" 😂 touch down baby!
I'm 75, and while I've always been good in accepting change, I am glad I won't be around for what I think is coming. 😥

Internet platforms should mandatory reveal AI is conversing, providing & is the source of said info/dialogue/communication.
Yuval is one of the smartest! Great analysis and self-awareness!
Speak for some, not all. Not everyone is incapable of peace & self direction. Perhaps our media can shift toward sharing the stories that model joy, positive action, collaboration. Some of us will despair, so it’s always been. Many will thrive. Imagine everyone thriving. Choose to thrive if you can. Ask for help. And remember - AI is a reflection of us. WE still have the power to choose also. We have the choice & power to turn away… let’s practice. 🙏🏻🕊

Regarding the whole Google convo, I believe that today AI pulls its answers from content humans created. This will not be the case in a few years when all of the content available will be AI made. As in facts made by AI…

I remember reading a science fiction when I was little. There was a clash between a man and an all powerful machine. A friend asked the man, how would you defeat the machine. He answered, 'A machine never makes a mistake, I would use that'.

It's very clear what's the main problem : people won't definitely be able to distinguish facts from fiction, truth from lies.

Change is inevitable, but it is not deterministic. Together we can steer change towards common benefit…. I am afraid that is our only hope.
It's not up to humans to be flexible, it's up to technology. Technology is there to serve people and so is the economic system, through an autonomy income that will allow us to freely chose our activities to free ourselves from the market dictatorship.
