at 6:23, the speaker says that the decision to build himself up from a skinny boy whose only strength was in his mind to one who is both fit in body and intellect was an act of 'self-loathing'. I personally think that there was no aspect of self-loathing involved in what Mishima decided to do. Yes, Mishima would eventually destroy his body in seppuku but the act of wanting to break away from physical weakness is not an overtly self-loathing thing.

It would take an army of shrinks to fully understand Mishima. The man was a walking treasure chest of contradictions. A gay aesthete who loved the paintings of Watteau and the words of Shakespeare (in the original English) , yet who was a species of fascist fascinated by the muscular physicality of the radical right. A modernist who appreciated western culture but became gradually fixated on "liberating" Japan from its foreign influence. A man brought up in a household of women who clearly felt emasculated as a youth because he was unable to join the countless young Japanese men lost on the battlefields of the dying Empire. Self loathing ? Definitely in there somewhere , but he was so much more than that.

Yeah, but he wanted to kill people because they were weak and use that as proof of the 'fact' that this is want they and he deserved. I agree with "evolutionary humanism" but not with killing the physical person, only the principles that possess the person, which can be changed.

Decline dumbbell press to build up lower pecs for his ideal aesthetic body. Lots of curls of various varieties, dragon flag style leg lifts on bench for abdominals, and as he was self aware of the lack of leg muscle, rarely light weight squats.

he tries to depict in a negative way the machoism of mishima comparing him to an average spineless repressed homosexual , but if having the strength to die for an ideal and for a value is considered "negative" and "weak" then by all means i would like to be weak and negative, the bald glasses guy is just jealous and intimidated by greatness.
