Those were the starter decks that started it all. My dad was a doctor who worked a lot at the hospital (he's still alive just doesn't work at the hospital anymore) and one night he carried me with him and pit both decks out and told me to pick one then we read the instructions and learned how to play. Years later that memory is still a core memory for me and while I took back up the card game

The OG thousand eyes restrict was even more OP. I actually played the game back then, i had a deck that was built on using and protecting T.E.R. but i never got to use it in a tournament.

I know. I played a Crab Turtle/Relinquished ritual deck back in the day. If you look at the art of Crab Turtle it is quite similar to Relinquished both having one eye and long claws. Plus the 2550 Crab turtle could beat DM, Summons Skull, Red-Eyes, and many more boss monsters back then.

The king of games vs the creator of duel monsters. What an epic clash of the titans. The nostalgia train keeps moving along without ever slowing down. Beautiful just beautiful. Classic YGO will always remain in the heart of everyone. Relinquished was so good that it couldn't fit the name of it's ritual card in it's text box.

I was literally crying laughing at the whole Ring of Magnetism thing. That's exactly how so many duels with my friends went as a kid.

That ring of magnetism play was too good lol. These duels are a lot of fun surprisingly.

You know, I think I understand why watching old YGO is more fun than modern. In modern, it is combo after combo after combo from turn 1 on... and then one side wins. Old YGO gave you "breaks", almost like a narrative structure, where both sides just drew and passed... and the tension build up who would finally do the next combo first. What I would suggest you do: Build decks themened on the canons, but not just the starter decks. Maybe use the decks from the games, like YGO Tag Force. But only to a certain year, so it doesn't devolve into the stuff modern YGO is.

You know. Modern yugioh is not just combo and meta. You just pick your enviroment, deck power level and try enjoy the game. For example, i like playing more casual decks like satellarknights that focus on grinding the opponent out. That is still modern yugioh, but not meta

I'm telling you this unironically, play SPEED DUEL. It is exactly what you are looking for, the exact playstyle you are seeking.

I’m an OG yugioh duelist kingdom era vet and this is the reason why I say old school was the best. The amount of laughter and cheer during this duel shows what we once cherished in this ancient game. I get these are structure decks and not meta but, this was 100% fun yu gioh. Love these legacy duels.

Casual Yugioh is always fun regardless of time. There are always fun duels to be had with janky strategies or fun Rogue decks. People just compare old school casual yugioh, with what they saw as the meta yugioh of today. And no, Meta yugioh was always polarizing.

Alec has such big protagonist energy, he should really be playing the Yugi deck.

I was like: "What is going on here?" when seeing Man Eating Treasure Chest beeing played only to find out after those many years that the German EU Starter Deck had less cards in it than its US counterpart.

I'm a huge Magic: The Gathering fan and love TC and tabletop games. Honestly... never actually been into Yu-Gi-Oh!, but your videos, aside from being funny, have made me gain respect and interest for the game. Great channel, I'm subbing and following you guys. Much love from Spain.

I haven't played Yu-Gi-Oh in a very long time, and most of what happens in the game today is completely over my head. I've stayed subbed to this channel since seeing Paul on TCC to have a connection to a game i loved a lot growing up, but seeing these starter deck videos lately has ramped up the nostalgia to another level!! For whatever it's worth, Thank You Team APS for making these videos!! To me, they've been a blast, and i've been debating buying the singles to rebuild the decks myself now.

Love watching these early generation yugioh videos, i can actually follow along lol. Im lost as hell when i watch newer content.

Duels like this aren't highly explosive, but it allows players to play into and out if more varied board states. As opposed to making boards that are near impossible to outplay without having a spefic answer and baits/protection to pull it off. Sometimes there's a quick swing into a slower pace. Passing turn back to back. But that adds in tension between players. It builds up the anticipation for the next play that the duel will center around. Heart of The Card moments are potentially more common in this type of format. You feel like non-meta defining draws are genuinely special. I'm not harping on new yugioh formats. I play it too. It's just that I'm pointing out several things that the recent meta and direction of the game lacks in comparison.

Paul and Alec losing it over Alec not reading ring of magnetism's debuff was easily the best part of the episode. XD Though a close second was Paul thinking the Darkness would avail him and it only powered up the predictably eldritch stuff Pegasus lines his deck with XD Also can't help but say that Paul had a little misplay: always set Dragon Capture Jar. Way back even in 2008 YGO I saw this card hold up games and allow a stall long enough to use the opponent's big dumb dragons against them.Then again Alec had a misplay too: always save Ring of Manetism for Relinquished as that's just a hilarious old 'combo' XD They literally have a choice between damaging themselves, freeing their monster only for you to take again, or damaging themselves after realizing they forgot the ring was there and losing another asset. Otherwise it was nice to see you guys switch characters! Looking forward to Duelist Kingdom Kaiba V Joey without weird beyblades that ignore the rules this time LMAO
