Edit: Since some people asked me why i surrender certain duels - Here's the explanation: This game has very tight strategies which involve beating opponents fast, prevent own capsule monsters from destruction (which would render them unusable in the next duel, ruining more strats) and destroying certain opponent monsters so we can acquire them after the victory. Most of the strats require you to go first since it's a big advantage, especially with the big movement range from my electro monsters. My opponent going first makes certain duels impossible to beat with the required strats, including Mokuba, Mai, Marik, Duke, Tea, Yami Bakura and probably some more. The only way to keep the run going is to surrender the duel as soon as possible and start over, hoping to win the next coin flip.

Before I watched this, I thought "This game can be speedrunned?" but as soon as I saw you pick Thunder and saw Kaminarikozou leap across each stage I just went "Yep that'll do it."

I main the hell out of Thunder and due to lots of bad luck with Kaminarikozou I cant stand them, seeing this comment had me laughing almost as hard as when I saw him doing the dirty to Mako and Weevil's symbols I was like yo I know youre speedrunning but you really gonna have them down like that 😂 the damn piece is more of a bird than a thunder the way it glides about the stages all thug life like 😭

Not only does this game need a rerelease, but I needs a PC and Switch port, a proper NewGame+ where the NPCs get access to Fusion and Evolved monsters, as well as the ability to battle friends online. I wish there was a way to convince Konami this is a good idea.

Also a new Soundtrack that features the complete old soundtrack and many other new tracks. Also it would be cool to keep the dubbed text and maybe put some more quality into the storyline, which doesnt have to be the main focus but the way your oponent is displayed and presented. I think there could be so many possibilities to make the already very good game much more attractive :D

he even reseted some games so he could choose first or second, he´s abusing the game itself, luck.

I still remmeber this game when I played it as a kid.. I loved Water statue so much and my favorite unit was the White Dolphin.. Did not do much damage but helped me so much with a Wood unit that I forhot its name that moves by 2 spaces and dealt damage in a cross way.. Such fun game.. Wish it had a new game but I doubt it'll get one :(

Well i did some small improvements (such as random placement of capsules in Bakura stage) but the core strats are still from gcah's WR run (except Pegasus 2 since he just won't obey and do silly things instead every time). The time difference really wouldn't be that big if his emulator didn't lag so crazy in his run.

Amazing video. Despite the predictable AI, you'd have to play a lot while working up some strategies. I did personal speedruns (5 hours was my peak) to beat my previous records with the earth sb + happy lovers, but this thunder-kaminarikozou is just on another level.

Editing my original comment - ignore the question I figured out the answer. "I has the dumb". Great run by the way I personally opt to play normal and free flow strategies which seems to really mess with the AI honestly, your "Kami guy" strat is scary. If im not mistaken Fire follows the same low PP high ATK type style of Thunder but im not sure if the movement of the pieces are as mighty as the Thunder cause I've never tried really anything after I found my way with Thunder

My PB is 8 hours. This is absolutely incredible. EDIT it's now 5:30:52 but still not tried the electric masterclass.

This game needs like 3 campaigns to complete 100% (All Capsules) and has some RNG involved in due to both Sanga of the Thunder and Red Eyes Black Dragon being materials for fusion/evolving and the game rewarding them at random However, if you choose the thunder symbol Sanga is guaranteed, if you use a dark symbol the same happens with Red Eyes Not to mention that Javelin Beetle is required in order to get Dungeon Worm and Giant Mech Soldier being available at 10 hours in game Will you ever try 100% completion? Im really pumped to try it some day thanks to your run

You can check out the speedrun site here to see when there are updates: www.speedrun.com/yugiohmarathon Btw, back in the days i enyoyed Water and Darkness much, water is just super slow because you just have no attack but a ton of defense on your pieces so every attack deals around 10 damage it takes some time but i enjoyed it anyways.

it's the hardest one because it is very hard to predict the enemy moves. I have not achieved a decently fast stage here yet in a run.

i don't know. They seem to miscalculate the long diagonal movement options of the kaminarikozou monsters alot and think they're safe when they really aren't.

so is part of this run a lot of luck (in the early game specifically)? Hoping that he puts his symbol where you can hit it? Because with kaminarikozou, if the AI just puts it in a certain spot, it can literally never get hit. or are you doing somehting in particular that makes the AI move the symbol where you want?

For the most part the AI is predictable, but a lot of small things can change if you miss some experience on Monsters or your symbol and they don't level up as fast as you need them. Also the biggest time waster of course is the coinflip for the first turn. In a lot of matches you need to go first.

Has there been any consideration into using other symbol types or does thunder just trump everything by far?

You basically need an element which can one-shot anything including symbols. The only other possible candidate might be Fire since it also excels in Attack power, but the mobility of fire monsters can not compete with Lightning. They need too many turns to move over the board.

hey not sure if you'll ever see this but i could use some help trying to run this game i noticed that in your submission it said u used emulator..id like to ask which one u used in order to clear this run..im trying to clear this run using pcsx2 but the game always locks up at the bakura fight..and i cannot progress past that point..i can clear all other area 3 locations but bakura's stage always results in a crash with the game showing a weird camera angle is there any method to fix this issue?

hey, sorry for the late answer. I think I changed some settings such as software rendering for FMV sequences which fixed a bunch of PS2 games for me on the PCSX2 emulator. Not exactly sure of the settings that i changed since it's been a while ago.

I've done 6 full reruns of it in the last 2 weeks. These strategies are AMAZING.

@@heythere1900 I personally, back when I played the game, found Marik 1 to be the most difficult for some reason. As a child i couldnt even get past him. Then when I was like 12 or so, I played the game again. Overall Id say Marik 1 is imo the most difficult and then Pegasus 2. The easiest battle, considering that it takes place in late game, is Marik 2. He is so much easier in the second battle, even though its in area 4.

@@cylonrayzr2742 I agree honestly. I had Marik 1 up there, he likes to stall and bait you in. I always try to clear as many of the blocks you stand on to made him take the 50 damage a turn if his pieces go in it. I think the computer figures that's what you're trying to do then goes full turtle strat

@@heythere1900 Im gonna be honest, I didnt even know until now, that the Stage can damage the pieces lol. I know they move but I never got into a situation where either his or my pieces took damage. Nice to learn something after over 10 years haha.

Can Someone explain me what happens when he faces Mokuba, Mai or Marik? I just don't quite get what he tries to achieve. Is there an RNG which makes it significantly easier or am I just blind and can't see the obvious :D I would like to run that game myself, because I absolutely love this game. It's filled with much nostalgia and I think it's unique and very well made. And the soundtrack......I love it soo much :D

You get a huge advantage for having the first turn (= winning the coin flip). Most of the fight rely on my winning it, including Mai, Mokuba and Marik. There are backup strats for going second but almost all of them are slower than surrender and try winning the coinflip again. Additionally, the run is somewhat fragile in terms of experience you gain for your monsters and your symbol. Missing out on some might result in you unable to win against Seto 2 or Ishizu 2 later.

Those speedrun strategies mostly rely on me going first in a duel. My opponent going first most likely result in the duel taking 5+ turns longer, my pieces getting destroyed (making it unavailable for the next duel, ruining strats) or me unable to win at all. Unfortunately some enemies like Mokuba always go first when they win the coin flip so the fastest way to recover from this is to play until the first round and surrender the duel, starting over and try the coin flip again. In this run it happened multiple times on Mokuba, Mai and Marik.

Imagine if they remade and remastered both of the big ps2 yugioh games (capsule monsters and duelist of the roses) with some extra monsters and online play

I always felt like with the deck masters in DotR that it would be more rewarding playing other people online nobody wanted to play that game against eachother on the same TV

I always went first if I picked the card which is in bottom and center-left position. It never failed me. Might help with your speedrun

depends on the match. Some of them just don't have proper reliable setups for going second, some of them are up to 10 minutes slower, so it's a real run killer yeah. Tristan, Shadi 1 and some others make little to no difference, but Marik, Shadi 2, Mokuba and Pegasus 2 are unrecoverable.
