Such a perfect soap opera moment --- excellent acting, excellent drama, excellent music, and excellent shock value! These kind of longer scenes aren't around anymore. Now, we barely get 10 seconds before they jump to the next scene. No time to fully invest in the scene.

The reason the actor who plays Philip was in and out the show, is because he had a brother who he he was battling with. He had a lot of mental issues and ended up murdering someone. I saw this show about people who have notorious family members who are serial killers. He was on the show as a celebrity, who has a family member who is very sick, and did try to help him. It is a sad story.

Yeah. Sad. Thom Bierdz’ brother Troy wound up killing their mother and his other brother committed suicide a few years afterwards.

I live about 45 minutes from Kenosha, WI where this happened. In July of 1989 Thom Bierdz younger brother Troy beat their mother to death with a baseball bat in her kitchen. He is schizophrenic and has been institutionalized ever since. It was a really sad and awful story. Thom wrote a book about this called Forgiving Tory. It's a great read.

@@Marcus_1001 Bierdz was on an episode of Evil Lives Here on Discovery I.D. talking about it. While he The Young and the Restless, he flew his brother to Los Angeles and I think Bierdz was able to set his brother up with jobs.

Phillip's return could have been so iconic....but they ruined it.

And the show quickly realized that the guy playing Phillip had less acting talent than a brick. Suddenly, Phillip is sent back to Australia to live it up as a gay man and is barely mentioned thereafter. I always thought it was ironic that Kay, Jill and Nina mourned Phillip's death for over 20 years (frequently bringing him up) but, when they learn he is still alive, they forgot about all about him. From a creative angle, the show would have been better off if the writers had just left Phillip in the coffin in Kay's yard and not pursued this plot twist.

Isn't this the same Phillip who appeared as a ghost to Katherine when they had the intervention for her in 2004.

When they bring young actors into soaps, it usually doesn't matter if they can act, as long as they're gorgeous (especially the men). Sometimes, like Shemar Moore, they learn to act. I really liked Phillip and was disappointed that they killed him off. However, the character was not gay back then. There was no hint of it whatsoever. I would have been fine with it if they had. I just hate when they completely rewrite history, for whatever reason.

Nina called cane what he truly is: a con artist and Jill should’ve disowned his lying ass for good. His whole life was just one lie after another. Jill talking about how much he wanted a family: he already had one. And him talking about the mother he knew growing up being dead: she was really alive. And his real name wasn’t even cane either. And I felt bad for billy for the way Jill treated cane better than him when cane wasn’t really her son
