Some people are strange. A big nose doesn’t make someone unattractive. It’s about facial symmetry, your facial bone structure, your jawline, and your eye shape. Some of the most unattractive people I’ve seen have smaller noses.

People don’t realize how important facial harmony is. You can put attractive features on someone but if they don’t have facial harmony they’re considered below average 95% of the time. 5% is average

So true! As a light skin black women with 3c hair, the only thing that people could ever say about me was my nose was big. They couldn’t talk about about my other features; high cheekbones, lips, almond eyes but they made a point to let me know that my nose was big (aka too black) trying to humble me but ironically it looked like the one they had sitting in the middle of their faces 🫠. I had a black girl say that she thought all light skin people were suppose to be pretty and I wasn’t because my nose was big 🤣, black people are our own worse enemies. I’ve recently gotten my nose done and I don’t regret it because for me the goal was facial balance and I achieved that. Great breakdown!

Right Omg ! and it’s funny because for me no one notices my nose (It’s never been called big but also never been called small). However when I have no makeup on and the freckles are showing around my cheeks and nose suddenly people want to comment on it and say they “like” my freckles on my nose and that it’s cute- yet they never say anything about my nose when the freckles are covered up 🤔

THISSs! Thank you for making this video and shining light on the featurism us “preferences” are subjected to. I am a light skinned Afro-Latina woman and every since I was a young girl I knew I was pretty but in the same breath I was also told I was ugly because I had a big nose especially by other black people and It hurt my self- esteem badly and caused me grow an insecurity about my nose to the point I wanted to have a nose job. It was clear it was only pointed out to find a “flaw” to humble me, But today I am confident in my skin and in my blackness being that it’s my noticeably black feature and I also know that I was never “ugly” but instead I was being projected onto by self-hating people who didn’t like themselves and wanted to humble me. I am so happy these conversation are being had, I wish I had access to see this message as an adolescent girl. 💛💛

Imagine getting a bbl because it was trendy and then the internet is like " Okay guys, I change my mind, we're going for the skinny-boyish look." You need to ask YOU what YOU think is beautiful. I had to come to ask myself this one question. It's very extreme but it was this " What would you want to look like if other people thought it was unremarkable or ugly?" It took me a long time but, I don't want to have to be doing copious amounts of squats for a slim thick look only to do something else when the internet or people around me decide " Nvm, slim thick is kinda ugly ngl."

You avert eye contact, you walk on the other side of the street, you certainly don’t stop and talk and tell him how ugly he is compared to someone else. You already feel sad for him because you know that HE KNOWS that he is ugly. talking about anyones beauty in any way means you have at least thought to yourself “are they attractive?” The fact that you even think that thought is proof that they are NOT ugly.

Wowww! 😮 I thought it was just me! It's almost like, when a pretty woman gives another woman a compliment, that woman automatically thinks that we are being disingenuous. They don't feel like that about themselves, so they either lash out or they immediately give you back negative energy instead of positive energy. Then, it kind of makes the pretty woman feel awkward like we have to CONVINCE the other woman that our compliment is sincere which leads to us, basically, ass kissing. So, I just keep my compliments to myself at this point. I don't have the patience or energy to coddle other people's insecurities anymore.

A lot of women close to me would say “if u get a nose job, u would be perfect”. Its been a weird inner battle. My nose is long, my dad had a big and wide nose and my mom has a small one, so my nose is like a mix of both (not really, its a whole new nose shape 😂) Anyways, I never had a problem with my nose until a friend from high school and my husband mentioned it. As a kid, my best friend would call me “big nose” whenever we would argue, and I had no idea why she was calling me that way, cause I didn’t see anything wrong with my nose so I never paid attention to her. Until I was in high school and another friend made a comment about it and then my husband. That’s when I became self aware of my nose, but even then I didn’t know exactly if the problem was it being long, or wide or what exactly cause I just didn’t see anything wrong with it 😂 then my husband told me that my nose its long instead of wide. Now I see it, sometimes I’m a little self aware of my nose but other times I just don’t care. I wouldn’t be me without my nose…and I’m too afraid of getting surgery and having a messed up nose. Honestly, looking back… I never had a problem with my nose until certain people point it out which makes me think that some people just love to find a way to make others feel insecure when they see them being confident with themselves, and it sucks. Like, let that person love herself despite what you may think of them, keep your comment to yourself and let them be who they are in peace lol cause my husband specifically brought that insecurity to me. EDIT: my husband would joke about my nose sometimes, Dominicans tend to joke about “big noses” or “bad hair” just like black American men joke about “wigs” or “nappy hair” so it was a form of joke which was not fun AT ALL. 🙄

All of this! Also so many of them looked better - IMO - before they got their nose done. Of the celebrities I think only Rihanna, Alicia Keys, and Aliyah, look better in the after photos (and aside from Alicia Keys, theirs were fairly subtle). But Amerie, Tyra, and the rest had much more striking beauty before getting generic looking noses, something remains off about them. And of course this applies to celebrities of other backgrounds too, like Brittney Spears and JLo, their chiseled down noses are distracting, they had absolutely no need to alter what they had. I really appreciate this video though because despite my comment I struggle with my own nose, especially given that my sister fits into the more idealized version of "refined" features.

I agree that there is definitely a bias against features that that don't fit a very narrow, Eurocentric standard that many white people don't fit. On the other hand, I don't think I've ever seen ugly eyes, so disliking someone's nose or mouth doesn't necessarily mean the critic is biased against ethnic features. Assuming there is not anti-black feature bias, it's often some disharmony in how the features come together that makes the person appear not aesthetic. Anika Noni Rose is a very beautiful woman with a wider nose that fits her face very well. I've always though Barbara Streisand was pretty with her natural nose as well. In my opinion, Rihanna's nose job is masterful, with the preservation of the overall shape and ethnicity of her nose.

I don’t see nothing wrong with my big nose. Some mad ass guys called me squidward but idk I’m not insecure about my nose. The insult doesn’t hold enough weight. It’s like, ehh come a lil harder than that. Also, Rihanna’s nose looks the same. In my opinion Ice Spice is just okay but she isn’t ugly at all! If she gave me the chance I would definitely have a change of heart tho & I’m pretty sure she’s cuter in person. I never seen Doja Cats natural hair & she looks gorgeous 😍 Moving on, I think it’s all because of the certain pictures and the angles. For example, if Ice Spice showed her body more in a pic then all of a sudden she looks more attractive vs Rihanna showing more of her face. Rihanna’s face card is nice & pretty meanwhile I’m attracted to Ice Spices body type (specifically the hourglass shape). It’s preference if that makes sense. It all changes depending on the person too. I don’t have a problem with big nose & big lips (like myself) but Jay Z looks like a camel to me 🤷🏽‍♀️

As a person who immediately self identifies as mixed cultured (Antiguan and African American), some people don't like to be judged. Beauty standards do exist. But it'll cost less if someone fixed their attitude. Although I'm caramel, I understand that I have more in common with dark skin unambiguous blk women because of my features ( brown eyes and African facial features with 4c hair). DNA stats and common sense combined, my level of admixture isn't the same as these women in the video as I don't self identify as mixed. I mean look mixed. I'm generational admixed (minor ingredient).
