    I cannot thank you enough for the knowledge you share, about so many things, not only crochet, especially about Finland, so fascinating!!! My husband was Finnish, we had plans to visit Finland but he passed away unexpectedly in January of ‘23, so we never made it. Thank you for keeping a part of him alive for me💜💜💜Bless you!!!

    I recently completed two sets of granny squares, one about 6 inch each and one about 12 inch each. This was a stash busting project using dissimilar yarn weights and colors combined. I had no real problems using double strands throughout the project and impressed even myself when done. It took me a week to gather everything I wanted to use up, but the pairing up of the different two yarns was done as I went along. I also blocked the squares as I went along which made joining go smoothly. I haven't done a large project as this one that was more satisfying. I recommend your suggestion to combine yarns as well as all your other tips. Tuula, you are a treasure!

    Yes please do make a video about wool quality, wool care, as you mentioned - I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thank you so much for answering my wool question. ❤ I had a feeling it might not get answered since it really does require a video of its own. 🙃 But you answered it perfectly for me. Your explanation allowed me to understand that the "ball" I have is low quality and it won't work, even in a loom, to make a mat. I think I may stitch it up into strings and use it as ribbon for presents. At least if it breaks despite being bulked up, that's OK! 😆 I look forward to the full video to learn even more. Such as what can we do with the different types of low quality yarn. 🙈 I'm thinking they must have a purpose. 🤔

    Wait. Wool CAN be washed in the machine? Oh my goodness. We need that video! It seems like every single ball of yarn I pick up these days says 'hand wash only, lay flat to dry" or something similar. I'm new to crochet so my finished projects are still very precious and I'm wary of doing ANY damage to them.

  • @TuulaMaaria

    @TuulaMaaria

    You need to go what the band says but there are so amny differenttypes of wools that for various reasons can be washed in the machine. Yes, you don't want to ruin anything you have made by washing it wrong! Another thing that so many people don't know is that real wool very rarely needs washed at, it "cleans" itself, airing outside is sufficiest unless there are stains.

    'Rough' wool is because it has too many fibres that are over 30 micron, which is under the term 'prickle factor '. As a previous merino wool breeder I bought rams that had no fibres over 30 micron. People in the USA think they are allergic to wool but it is the prickle factor that they are feeling, not an allergy. Fibre over 30 micron doesn't bend as easily therefore prickles. Hope this helps.

    Thank you, I had theory about wool when I did my textile degree in my 30s so I have had plenty of time to forget! Yes, so often I have wondered if it really is true that so many people would be allergic to wool when around here it is super rare. People just say that they don't use rough wool, it's not allergy. (In some cases it can be that too, I'm sure but mostly not, they haven't tried soft wools.)
