they could drift and start driving into "the ditch" (Taking waves from the side.) which could capsize them if the waves become problematic enough. What if the weather began to change while he was asleep and they drift in the ditch? There is also other things besides JUST the sea to worry about... What if something began to overheat and catch fire? It's happened before on their electric panels, having someone there, awake and aware, can stop it from turning into a life-threatening problem. What if the engine stopped turning and left them dead in the water while they were all asleep? Without the engine going, they would be at the complete mercy of the waves and could again land them in "the ditch" Those are just three examples right off the bat that I can tell you. There are more. Also, do you have another word besides. like?

So I thought that as well, but if you hear Jake say that he slept through 4 shifts, it actually comes down to only about 2 hours a shift. 2 hours of watching the wheel to me personally sounds fun, and not out of the question as we pulled guard with 2 hour shifts in the army. Even if the guy knew he was struggling, he should of either sucked it up or notified someone. The risk factors involved in not only the lives / families of the 7 on board, but the gear, the boat, other boaters. Jake would have stayed up if he knew, that guy made a very dumb mistake.

Risking the lives of others isn't pride; it's selfishness and laziness. I hate people like Kenny. It's NEVER their fault or it's "not a big deal" and they've always got some kind of excuse ready for any and all situations. Completely incapable of taking responsibility for his own actions. On top of that Kenny lied straight to Jake's face; he didn't have a stomach ache at all he was just tired and lazy. And the way he has to give himself credit for apologizing for his own mistake? Only an actual manchild pats himself on the back for something like that. I was so happy when he got off the boat. The guy is a danger to everyone around him and holy crap he just does not know when to shut up. One day someone will clock that guy on the jaw properly to teach him a lesson.
