Nope. Not without eye tracking. Even with my 4090 it'll be a slide show.

I'm thinking this too, though wondering how much my system will suffer. Also i'd like to be able to look left, right etc without moving my head as much as with the reverb. Using fixed foveated rendering will, i suppose, make the fov smaller.

Just a pure simple headset for drive sim and flight sim. This is the exact PCVR headset that I am looking for.

This is good news, I have the G2 and this will be a substantial upgrade. I don’t need all the bells and whistles,just aa headset for flight simming at a reasonable price

Are you buying a 5090? Without it you'll be playing at the same resolution as your G2.

@@l8knight845 I use a 4090 and get average of 50 - 60 fps. 4070ti gives me circa 35. Settings combination of mainly high with med/ultra mix.

@@SimHangerFS Same. That's what 2200 by 2200. Be lucky to get 35 at 2880by2880 without the eye tracking. It's a shame.

Sorely tempted with this. I got the Quest 3 at the beginning of the year, and have lusted after Pimax, but was always out of my price range. Hopefully it will run OK on my system (3070ti) and then I can use the Quest 3 as a standalone VR instead. Certainly worth further thought

It also has an upscale mode that sets the resolution to 2160 x 2160 (G2 res) and up scales it to 2880 x 2880. So you can expect near similar performance to that of a G2 but with that amazing clarity. There's also no need for MSAA, TAA etc. That high res takes care of image stability and clarity

No way that 3070ti is going to be strong enough to take advantage of its 32ppd. I think you’ll need at least a rtx3090, preferably a 4080/4090. Otherwise, just stick with your Q3 imho.

I recently upgraded my RTX 3080 with a RTX 4070 Ti Super. Smoothness is excellent. 40 fps on medium graphics settings. I noticed a big increase on my PICO 4 image quality as I am now at 1.5X resolution per eye. Before, I had 1.0 or 1.1 with my 3080. Difference is huge. I am very interested in this new Pimax Crystal Light to see the huge image quality expected from the crystal QLED. Without eye tracking, the GPU can be important but what they explained about fixed foveal rendering 2.0 seems to be interesting. 10 to 30% increase of performance and with upscaling, it should be good.

Pre-ordered this, as I wil need a replacement of my G2 at some point

Since there will be no Pico 5 Max this might be a good option 😊

I preordered the bundle. Im currently running 4090+7950x3D

I’d rather pay extra for a smaller form factor version of this. 2880x 2880 will be the ideal res for the 5090. But for $700, I might just bite since this is an awesome move by pimax.

I haven't made the jump to VR yet, so I'd like your opinion of how much the lack of eye tracking matters in MSFS

If you have a reasonable cpu/GPU combo then it is less important. The FFR compensates allowing performance on mid range systems.

@markusnachname1619 That looks exactly the same problem that got me two replacement G2s from HP. It’s the helmet, not the cable, exact same symptoms. I reckon the problem is heat related.

Yesterday my Reverb G2, started to have a stange error. After about 30min left side flickers out, followed by the right side 2 seconds later, than picture is back for 'bout 2sec, than the same thing again until it's all balck. The reverb g2 worked fine for two years and now all of a sudden this. Any help? 😢

Sounds like either a cable or panel fault. Might be heat related?

@@SimHangerFS Yesterday it failed completly. There's no white LED anymore on the "on/off switch" of the cable, so I guess the problem lies here. I'm going to try a new cable. Plus I try Virtual Dektop with my Quest 3. Since I do not use any software from steam (performance killer), I hope I can use the Quest with the openxr runtime only.

Mark, is the Crystal Light compatible with any of the current programs for placing a pass-through mixed reality window in VR, allowing one to interact with home cockpit controllers like the various throttle quadrants?

No not at the moment. There is a Japanese option, but it is steam dependent and buggy.

@@SimHangerFS Thanks for that instantaneous reply. I'm pretty sure the Japanese program, Hand Portals, also requires VD and wireless operation. For me, personally, I think (but not sure) that rules out the otherwise-tempting Crystal Light, as I'm reluctant to jump into VR without the ability to see my controllers. How about you? Have you become reliant on Color Panel or have you pre-ordered a Crystal Light?

Yes, it uses steamvr and is compatible with openxr via third party PimaxVR

That is still way too expensive, might as well just get the Quest 3 at $499. All we wanted was a Quest 3 with DisplayPort and a better price. Pimax missed the mark once again as far as I'm concerned and simply gave us a Quest 3 (with DP yes), but way over-sized with quirky software and a 40% price premium???

how about a lite version without controllers?

Currently no option with the Light version without local dimming. However, there now is an option for the Light with local dimming and no controllers for $799. Also the Light without controllers with the SteamVR faceplate for $899. Since I already have 2x2.0 base stations and Index contollers I'd probably go with that. Should be a nice upgrade to my +4.5yo Vive Pro1. As much as I'm tempted to pre-order this, I think II'll wait for a few independant user reviews. In he meantime, I'm still pretty happy with my QPro/rtx4090 using the official link cable connected to my z790mb usb 3.2 type-c port at 650mbps encoding bitrate.

Darn, the fixed foveated rendering and the not interchangeable lenses are a deal breaker for me. If I need to go all-in and pay more than 2000 then I'll might as well just buy the Somnium VR1 which has even better specs.

@@SimHangerFS Seems like the VR1 has 120 degrees horizontal fov natively and a larger sweet spot, no need to buy extra lenses, for the same price as the Crystal. However, prices for the Ultraleap hand tracking and the AR options are still unknown.

@mururoa7024 Pimax are launching the Crystal super which has better resolution than the Somnium VR1! Pimax has 3840 X 3840 and its only $1800 with controllers the Pimax super with better Res 50ppd 130Deg FOV Horizontal and 110Deg Vertical with 150 Deg Diagonally and has eye tracking with DFR beats the Somnium in every way and has the same price as the Somnium Base model which doesn't have Eye tracking. I know Somnium are saying they will be ready for launch very soon but I'm betting it's delayed. I'm going to wait for the Pimax Super! Delivery in Q4 seemingly will be definite as they want it in customer hands before CES in January next year when they launch the 12KX

@@mururoa7024 then the Crystal Super is the one you should be comparing to. Better resolution than the V1 and price wise the top end V1 will be at least 50% more expensive if my guess is anywhere close to what I expect the V1 top model to go for.

@@JonJon-dk3nh the difference between the G2 & Crystal (I have both) is noticeable in both colour and clarity, (nearly edge to edge). Different lenses etc. not sure in % terms, but 30-40% would be a good estimate.

At this price, there aren't many alternatives, are there? I mean you can use your Quest 3, but that still has lower resolution, ands you're stuck with batteries

@@payt01 I don't care about the Quest 3. The Pimax 8kx seems to have a wider FOV in Large. Was cheaper. Crystal Light is cheaper. Still narrower FOV.

@@mickaelsflow6774 The way I look at it is that I need a replacement for my Reverb G2 at som epoint, as windows stops supporting VR in windows 12. It's getting a bit long in the tooth anyways. The Light will be a perfect replacement, with a higher resolution and slightly better FOV at pretty much the same price as the G2 used to be. The only thing that won't be as good probably is the sound, which is awesome on the G2.. oh well, I guess we can't have it all eh?

It could be good... But I just can't trust Pimax. I nearly bought an 8k on the promise the cost would be redeemable on the "soon to be released" 12k. I nearly bought the first Pixel on the promise that it would do everything.... Fortunately, on both occasions I resisted because of their track record. Until their actual output matches their promises It'll keep staying away.😢

this is spit into face to all buyers of Pimax. Community wanted from the beginning a Crystal without battery. Now when they plan to make one, it will cost 2 times less than original hahaha absolute garbage company

​@SuperTica22 exactly. This puts the Crystal in competition with the quest3. I don't want the quest. Nothing but issues getting it to work with ease. This being true pcvr should be much like the G2 to set it and forget it.

@@pigsfly6043 did you try Virtual Desktop for wireless connection ? It does wonders (I'm playing almost solely MSFS 2020 which is a bit of a pain in the ass to get working flawlessly, but with VDXR it's a piece of cake. Much better than Airlink of even the Link Cable.

Ya, well at least Pimax did listen to Crystal users that didn't want the standalone option. At least they will be able to go wireless with the 60G Airlink module.
