A functional full size spare mount shutoff would be cool. A base that mounts to the bed, then the "key" part you pull out has the hex mount and stud for you to bolt whatever wheel and tire combo you want to it, that way it kills 2 birds with 1 stone. Also a full size tire would be harder to misplace...

I'm working on a hybrid of those two, a magnetic cover that turns on a reed switch (small magnetic switch) that in turn controls a relay to cut the power, that way even if the cover magnet moves a bit, the magnetic field is strong enough so that the reed switch will stay "on". Will put the design on thingiverse once i'm satisfied with the results.

@@HarleyDesignsInc yes I see now.....as this is in main power line wires.. from esc to batt? Couldn't you just use your esc external switch pos and neg (if indeed your esc has one, like Hobbywing etc) as that's not in the main power circuit from esc to battery.... You could effectively use anything down to a 2amp rating. So this design is basically a plate 'switch' yes?? So in respect... Does not have an max amp rating as such...as its simply bridging the circuit by means of a small steel plate..? Quite clever really.... Simple... But effective. I still think its a tad overpriced... Despite the ingenuity.... The manufacturers will pick up this idea soon.... Or a similar variant.... May be prudent of power shift to register this... @@blackvic5157 if I thought it was fair pricing I would of said so.... And you've misread what I said anyway.... I didn't expect him to sell his product for $2.... I also didn't suggest that you could buy an off the shelf variant of this exact product for $2 from China either... I simply stated the materials used in this product dont cost more than a few bucks... And as a paying customer I was just offering my opinion on the rrp price being charged..... So I'm not really sure what you're insinuating with that rant?

That's an awesome switch but why does he cut off the ground instead of the hot I didnt know if it would make a difference or not leaving the hot side hooked up

  • @blackvic5157

Once you cut the ground, in a DC circuit, the hot side ain't hot no mo'. It's got potential but no current. Drop a wrench across that and any grounded point, though, and you will get current out the wazoo, all of it, because that will dead short your battery and turn it into a model boat anchor. Myself, I'd cut the red wire, just for that reason.

I guess I'm too in the dark ages still, as I only use deans on my rigs. Think all the other plugs are too bulky and comes in colors that don't match my vehicles at all. Down side, they are pain to take apart in the cold, rain etc. I live in Norway, and we have similar weather as Canada. As I type, I got nearly 3ft og snow outside, so I can't play with my rigs at all. Also thinking of make my own variant of the deadman switch, cause I'm out of funds and have the parts in my spare bin. As others have pointed out, your hair is always stylish, and I can only dream of going out beanie-less in -20C, I would be sick for months if I try that! Keep up the good work sir :-)

Three feet of snow is a perfect scenario to take your rigs out. Are they rough terrain vehicles or are they not? or...are we just a little...chicken! Bgawk! Bgawk! Get out there! Post pix! Don't be a big wimp! (Just kidding, bro-hans - I don't go out in the snow either.)

That means, about RC model engineering, I know: precisely dick. So, don't beat me up. Here's my question. Is there some reason you haven't been using a concealed switch somewhere on the chassis?
