I like these kind of videos. I had an about 15 minute ride home, and I was able to just put this on in my truck (phone face down on the other seat of course) and listen while driving home. And I got to learn something too.

I learned about MOCA from your channel and now I have 4 adapters, and I am slowly converting all my friends as well. It's really a great product.

Hi, if you don't mind me asking, if I need 4 adapters, does that mean I need to connect 4 moca's to the router? Or do I only need one from the main cable line coming in + the router and the rest will talk to it?

@@KyngShadow depends how the wiring is done, but if they are all connected together, you shouldn't. I have one at my router and one in my living room, one in my bedroom and one in my office.

My moca came in today. Set it up in under 10 minutes. Now have reliable WiFi (already had a second router) upstairs for the first time. Thanks, Lon

Lon, maybe I missed it, but you didn't tell folks how to setup MoCA adapters when you have one coax line in a room connecting to an Internet modem. The way is to attach the incoming coax to the MoCA adapter's "Coax In" port. The "TV/STB out" port should go to the cable modem. Then the Ethernet port of the cable modem goes to the input of a router. One of the router ethernet outputs goes into the MoCA adapter. In another room (or rooms) connect another MoCA adapter to the Coax port there. Connect the MoCA adapter's ethernet port in that room(s) to either a switch or directly to a device. Back in the room where the Internet modem is, you can connect the other ports of the router to devices in that room I know it seems confusing, but if you draw out what I described, you'll see how it works.

I'm trying to use DirecTV DECA (MoCA device..but lower frequency).. they only have 1 coax jack... so I'm trying to use a splitter (5 - 2150 Mhz) with one side to the cable model and the other to the DECA device. Not working. Any ideas? I also tried with a 2-way splitter at the cable box outside (1 to 1 room that I want internet to and the other to the splitter before the cable modem and DECA device).. still no luck. I'm guessing I'm trying to back feed the MoCA signal into the splitters?

Holy Smokes! I think this is what I've been looking for. I can't believe how hard it has been for me to find this. It seems like it should be such a common situation, but who knows. Currently, I have my internet coming into my home office via a coax wall port. A coax cable runs from there to my stand-alone modem. An ethernet cable goes from my modem to my separate router. I haven't purchased the MoCA adapters yet but hopefully what you've explained here will make them work for me. That said, should we also have a filter coming immediately after the PoE at the wall?

My ISP/TV provider, Fios, uses MoCA. I love it! I bought a cheap Actiontec extender in my living room. It has two ethernet ports plus dual ban wifi.

Would placing the filter at the coax in of the MoCA, or at the coax in of the modem (device feed from the MoCA) accomplish the same task as placing the filter on the wall coax inlet?

I may have missed it in the video, but it is my understanding that a POE Moca filter is not needed when the signal is delivered to one's home by a fibre optic cable. Is that correct? (I really enjoy your videos.)

It would be nice to add PoE+ into the MOCA specification. This will remove the need for a power brick on the receiving end to power the MOCA device and the PoE end device such as an access point or security camera. That's 2 power bricks unneeded! There are PoE Ethernet over Coax products out there, but these products are not smart enough to avoid cable TV signals. MOCA has this avoidance. This is why I only use MOCA bridging devices because they don't block cable TV signals. Is this PoE feature planned for MOCA 3.0?

For a future Q &A: One area that you have not covered in using MoCA adapters is their use with over the air (OTA) TV antenna (ATSC). Is this possible? Are the frequencies used for USA ATSC different than those used for MoCA? Also, you covered the specifications for splitters to use in a coax network with MoCA, could you also give the specifications for using amplifiers in these networks or if these do not work at all. I setup my grandma's house with a OTA TV antenna then later hooked this to my mom and dad's house next door over a RG6 ~500' quad shielded cable, so that they could use the same TV antenna. Cellphone reception at my parents place is bad. I have setup a cellphone booster at my grandmother's house. My parents have a hotspot for internet, but it is hit and miss with reception. My idea is to move the hotspot to my grandmother's house for better reception using the cellphone booster, then sent the internet over the coax to my parent's house.

How does this work if my isp is cable internet and they send the internet and tv through the same coax line ??

Are you able to hook up a splitter to the moca adapter in the remote room in order to hook up 2 TVs? Currently, when I do this, the coax cable light blinks and the signal is intermittent. When I disconnect the splitter and make it a 1-to-1 connection with the adapter to the remote device, it works fine.

I recently had fiber internet setup in my residence at one end of the home(my office). They were not able to install the fiber connection in the middle of the home due to complications with the homes ceiling. An ethernet cable comes out of the small powered modem on the wall which is right next to the Cable company's jack. My question is, can I reverse the MoCA adapter using it's ethernet LAN connection as an "In from source". Then use the coax "Out" of the adapter as the connection to coax jack/cabling in my home? Eventually I want to find the cable leading to the center of the home/where my entertainment center is and "bridge" the two coax cables. Is this do-able?

I got two of actiontec ecb6200 with ARRIS SURFboard SB8200 DOCs 3.1 cable modem and when I plug the moca adaptors they don't seem to be getting the coax connection in my house. I'd seen some videos that put the moca POE filter on the cable modem because it's a 3.1 setup. Will they work without POE or do I need the POE filter in order for it to work. The current setup is wall cable to coax in, TV out to cable modem , router lan to moca adaptor --> second room --> wall to coax in, moca lan to PC on the other room. The coax lights won't come up but my internet works.. I'm guessing is the POE adaptor but maybe I'm just missing something.

Hi, non tech guy here. I have fiber now, but old coax cables in the entire house, so I got moca to have stronger internet on my pc than wifi (works great). I have a question about the PoE Filter, in this case, where there is just on coax cable from one moca device to the other, is it still a problem of "leaking" signal? or can it still go outside of my home? Since all coax cables are in my apartment and none leaves, just the fiber.

Lon, Will this work if your a Cord Cutter and have your home wired with coax for OTA television? I had Directv and canceled their service, but my house is wired with RG-6. That's where I wired my Antenna using a Channel Master amplified splitter.

I used a pair of these to connect my router to a wi-fi extender. It makes a huge difference. I have not run any scientific tests, but it seems nearly as fast as ethernet.

Do I really need a moca POE filter if I have Verizon Fios G3100 Gateway moca enabled router. I have the highest speed provided by verizon 960/860 Mbps. I'm getting conflicting responses that FIOS is digital and doesn't need the POE filter.

MOCA requires the following for performance: You need to use RG6 cable swept to 3ghz, ideally RG6 Quad. Never ever buy that copper clad steel garbage and ensure it is a 100% ofc copper wire. If ypu have any RG59 cable ot needs to be ripped out and replaced. RG11 (with copper conductors) should be used for very long runs, say over 100ft out to a shed, pole barn etc. You need MOCA compliant splitters and distribution amplifiers. Most splitters are not swept to 3ghz, and will drop the frequencies used by MOCA MOCA is between 1125 and 1625 mhz. Most splitters and distribution amps are 5-1000mhz. Usually if you have Sattelite splitters you will not have an issue. Purchase MOCA 2.5 adapters. They will get gigabit ethernet performance on RG6 quad copper wire and have additional security feature such as MoCA protected setup and advanced encryption. Cureently only GoCoax sella these to the public. Mototola, ZyXel and ActionTec only sell MoCa 2.0 bridges.

Tried the actiontecs and Motorola brand moca2.0 to stream my plex server on 2nd story to my TCL roku 4K tv down stairs. However on 4K hdr videos of 50mbps or > it buffered every 10-20 seconds ☹️. I have previously used Dlink DHP-701AV av2 2000 powerline adapters and had no problems except for the very beginning of movies it would buffer only once and play the rest of the movie just fine. I was hoping for more bandwidth with the moca adapters, as iperf test showed promise of 370-400mbps and full 900mbps when using -P 10 command. The powerline maxes out at 218mbps. I followed all instructions and connected certified moca splitter and poe filter at initial in home coax point.

Great info! Has there been any testing against wifi mesh networks to compare speeds? Having these devices laying around the floor (if your coax isnt covered) may not be the most asthetic way to improve internet throughout the home. I was an early tester of MoCA when Directv was messing with this for the now Whole Home DVRs but havent messed around much since.

I now have a couple of actiontec 2.5 mixed with a couple of 2.0 adapters. Can I go into a gui on the 2.5 and set up a password for encryption like in the 2.0? I have only been using a poe filter at this point, but have found devices that are on my network that aren't mine. Would like to use the encryption on all of my devices to block them out.

I have Verizon Fios service which requires an ethernet connection to the Wan port as well as the coax connection. Is there a way to send the WAN signal from my Ont in the basement through coax to another floor so I can move the router up there. I would need to connect the coax as well as the ethernet WAN to the router and split the coax for cable service.

Some wall sockets have incoming isp and cable tv separated. Do I have to coaxial wire a MoCA to the tv socket only or do I have to put it into the internet socket and t-split it to the tv socket?

I read that poe filters stop leaking out, but not in. So, can I install two of these back to back in mirror order? It must only filter in one direction if what I read is true but I don't think the filter could work that way because it is a single wire, unlike twisted pairs which have dedicated send and receive wires.

Thank you for this talk. I did not find the answer to my question which is this: I have four MoCA 2.5 adapters (2 from ActionTec (ECB7250) and 2 from Kiwee Broadband, both using the Maxlinear MxL3710 chipset), connected directly by a coaxial cable, without any splitters, and without any potentially interfering signal such as cable TV etc. The MoCA adapters' web interface confirms a 3700Mbps-ish PHY rate between the two adapters, but ttcp, nuttcp and iperf all report only 125Mbps:110Mbps computer to computer (interestingly, the speed is consistently about 10% lower in one direction than the other). That's irrespective of which 2 of the 4 adapters I use on either end (both Kiwee, both ActionTec, one of one kind, one of the other, or if I swap the adapters around). If I connect the same two computers with a Cat. 6 cable (using the same 1000BaseT Ethernet ports), ttcp, nuttcp iperf give me 940-1023Mbps:940-1023Mbps - so yes, both computers have 1000BaseT ports and they can deliver near-1Gbps performance - interestingly, the throughput in the case of a direct Ethernet connection is symmetric, there isn't the 10% differential. I am using the correct (MoCA, not TV) port on each of the MoCA adapters. I've swapped the coaxial cable, tried 3 different coaxial cables (first I tried the long whole-house coax cable of unknown length, then a spare 6ft cable I had, then finally the about 1ft coaxial cable supplied with the adapter itself), all with the same results. I've tried swapping the Ethernet cables on both ends - I started with two 2 metre Cat. 6 cables, then swapped then with two 25cm long Cat. 8 cables. I've checked all the coaxial cable connectors and they are tight. I've tried reducing TX power and Beacon Power Level (normally I have them set to 10, but I reduced them all the way down in steps of 1). I spoke to ActionTec and Kiwee tech support and they could not identify the problem. They advised me to check what could be causing EMC interference but we could not identify anything in the environment that could be causing a lot of EMC. Also I tried the setup with both computers in the same room, with a 1ft coax. cable between the two MoCA adapters and two 25cm Cat. 8 cables either end, so there wasn't a lot of cable exposed to EMC, and I tried this setup in two different rooms. I have all adapters configured to use D-Low, D-High and D-Ext bands, with LOF set to 1150. At the suggestion of tech support (I can't remember whether ActionTec or Kiwee) I tried switching them both to a different band once - I can't remember any more which band, though, but I switched them both to the same band. It made no difference. The band settings are not documented so I don't really know what to try. The available controls are: D-Ext, D-Low, D-High, E, F-SAT, F-CBL, H, Custom; LOF (a number), Scan Mask, Scan Offset, Pri Ch Above Mask, Pri Ch Below Mask, but I don't know what these do (presumably bit masks saying which frequency bands should be permitted and which one not). In all these permutations of setups, the throughput via MoCA is consistently about 125Mbps:110Mbps, but via a direct Ethernet cable connection, 0%-6% below 1Gbps:1Gbps. And in each case, the adapters' web interfaces suggest that MoCA to MoCA PHY rate is about 3.7Gbps. Why is the end-to-end performance so poor?

Understand where to put the filter now. But what about in a room different than the room where the modem/router is? Just a coax cable outlet only?

My street cable main splitter is outside, so I need to add the filter to the IN connector to that splitter (Which is just outside my garage). Note the MOCA devices are installed and working. I have a standalone house so will the filter provide much?

I have done about six MoCA installations, without any significate issues. Now I have a house that refuses to allow the MoCA to work. I even disconnected the from the cable company (Spectrum) and tried to connecting two ECB6200 devices. they don't connect. I get power light, but no coax light. I tested that they worked in my house. I don't believe that there are any splitters between the tester and the destination wall jack. I tested the coax with Klein Scout Pro 3 and it says "short". With the Spectrum input cable connected the TV works. What's the most likely issue?

Ok. I have a xfi gateway. I enabled the MOCA in it. Now can I just add the MoCA filter to the cable entering the house then cable that to my Xfi Gateway. Then after that how can I connect this gateway to a MoCA splitter so I can get connection to more than one room in the house?? Out of the 10 cables I have only one that is connected to a room in the house where I don’t want it to be. I’m just stuck on what adapter I can use that goes from my MoCA enable router to the splitter

Now that I've dumped cable TV and have gone fully streaming, I have a coax cable running through my house with nothing attached to it. Could I use MoCA adapters to connect 2 devices together as if they were connected through an ethernet network?

I really can't understand this MoCa thing. I have been trying to find a way to get internet in other parts of the house. We just bought a new home (built in 98) but its not like Cali home where you could change the phone lines to Ethernet. House has a furnished basement with no area to add wire not even in the attic. They guy said he could do it from outside which I dont want wires out there especially when it snows. There is Coax in every room so I was hoping to see if I could use this but I just dont get it. I want to wire my mesh network. In our cali home the wireless wire mesh was good, we were getting 400-600mbs on different days. The new home we are getting maybe 20-50mbs with the same mesh system. We dont have cable just Internet.

I only need one MoCA device and it shows both green lights working, but my iMac now states "Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the internet". What does that mean? Mr. Cerino in the video states that "usually if you go into your login with your web key and all that fun stuff there is a section in there that allows you to modify or turn on the MoCA side".... basically not very helpful. Why has my actiontec device caused me to get a self-assigned IP address? and how to I fix it so that my ethernet will work. So far, I have not been able to answer this despite finding the question on many parts of the internet.

QUESTION: CAN THIS WORK IN REVERSE? Just relocated south from Queens. converting 4 horse pole barn to a garage/man cave. the spectrum guys says that the barn is more than 500ft from the house. cat 6 works fine(not yet buried) can this moca work in reverse and i put a cable box out in the barn?

Are there benefits to installing 75 ohm terminating caps on used coax connections to prevent transmission line reflections?

Trying to figure out how to determine where the PoE is for my coax in a condo/apartment. I don't even think a cable tester will help too much as that only tests the signal from one end of a cable or outlet to another. I guess I will have to use trial and error to make sure everything still works where I THINK the PoE is.

Does a coax amplifier strengthen a MoCA signal to reach the end of a long (~200 feet) coax cable? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

you shouldn't need a coax amplifier for moca.... pretty sure my living room at one end of the home, via wiring, is close to 200ft to the other side of the home, and then down a floor into the basement, and my moca works fine. we have fios, which already has a strong ass signal injected into the wiring via the ONT for TV.... much stronger than most would realize. if you have signal issues, i would assume your house is old and has the wrong type of coax cable (outdated)

sorry if i missed it but what is not clear is ...if my modem/router has Moca built in do i still need to use a POS filter?

I was wondering if it could work with cable TV and cable internet. There are two cables that come into the house and not just one. I believe the internet is on the other one and the TV is the other.

Seems you use modem and router interchangeably. Cable comes into house into modem and LAN into router. Where does Mocs device fit in.

@@cbelkoff Incoming coax connects Filter, filtered coax connects to Cable modem, modem plugs into router with ethernet and the Moca adapter connects to the router with an ethernet cable.

Unfortunately for me, when I hook up my POE filter to the inbound to my house my internet speeds drop by over 30%, and will lose it occasionally. If anyone has any ideas on why this is I would be grateful.

Can I place the moca filter at the Commscope amplifier?

I live outside of the United States of America. We use satellite TV which consist dishes to receive the channels through frequencies . 1. Would MoCA work at the available Coaxial cables in my house? 2. Would it interfere with the dish frequencies?

Should MoCA be able of going thru 500ft of coax? What is the length limit for the coax?

When you say “router”, do you mean a router+modem? Or if not, where does a dedicated modem fit into this schematic?

I have a dedicated modem and a separate Wi-Fi router. I attached the coax cable from the wall to the Coax In port on the MoCA adapter. Then I used another coax cable to attach the TV/STB Out port on the MoCA adapter to the coax port on the modem. Using a splitter did not work for unknown reasons. I then had to attach an ethernet cable from the modem to the Wi-Fi router and attach another ethernet cable from the MoCA adapter to the Wi-Fi router. This is for the main setup between the first MoCA adapter to the modem and router. Once this was done, I could easily add other MoCA adapters to my devices elsewhere in the house. Hope this helps.

@@TheNekromantique I bought a filter, but when I connected the filter to the coax input on the wall, the connectivity stopped working, and I don't know why. It was the same behavior when I used a splitter initially. I don't know if this is a function of Xfinity or something else. Let me know if you have other questions. Good luck.

I'm not sure how the filter works and how necessary it is, but I too have Xfinity and it sounds like you are not having any problems not using a filter? Someone else I read said that some ISPs would even disconnect service if you didn't have a filter. Thanks for your time!

@@ransombaggins9301 I have had no issues without a filter. Download speeds have tripled using the MoCA adapters. I also upgraded my modem to one with 32x8 channels. More channels is like having more highway lanes. God bless.

My Xfinity modem/router has MoCa built in. I bought a Motorola MoCa 2.0 adapter and connected my son's laptop in the basement. The modem is upstairs in my office, on the second floor. How can I improve speeds in the basement? I get around 400 mbps on my desktop wired connection, but he's getting around 100 mbps in the basement. Thanks.

Want to connect an eithernet connection to my iMac upstairs. My internet comes in the house via a coaxial cable. My upstairs coax is connected and works. I’ve tested it by hauling my modem and router upstairs and connecting to the coax. My internet speed went from 120 mbps (wi-fi) to 330 mbps connected to the coax. Why would I buy the Moca adaptors instead of buying a modem or router (not sure which one is crucial in this set up)and I don’t need to set up a wifi signal upstairs.

My modem only has one Ethernet port which needs to run to my WIFI router so how can I connect the MOCA adapter to the modem? Would it be possible to connect the MOCA to the router and have the router connect to my modem? Or do I need to buy a new modem with additional ethernet ports or do I have to talk to my cable company to get a replacement for my modem?

go-coax already sells 2.5 adapters, which have a max throughput of 2.5 Gbps.... so if you have two computers connected through their 2.5 adapters, and the network card is capable of 2.5 Gbps, you will get the full 2.5 end to end. But most networking card, and motherboard, only support up to 1 Gbps.

How does this work if you have multiple rooms you want to pipe internet into. Can you put one on the modem and 2 or more in different rooms or do they have to be used in pairs?

Thank for the video. I’m simply looking to extend Ethernet over an existing “dark”/idle coax cable between 2 buildings, about 350 feet. Would 2 of these devices on either end work? Moca being high frequency attenuates quickly. Is 350 feet a concern?

Ok thanks. Too bad, COAX is is a very capable medium, just no common devices on the market to take advantage of longer runs.

Can you do a video on using only one moca adapter and your router as the other one. I think it would help save people money and know if its better using two or just using your router. The Actiontec ECB6200 is useful for people that don't have a Network Extender that has Coax In.

Will these or any specific moca(any version), work with dish network running through the coax?...really trying to avoid a ethernet run

Yes and no. You will run into issues if you have any Joey's, because they use MoCa as well. If that's the case, I'd keep the receipt because your mileage may vary

I NEED HELP I AM A NOOB AT THIS: so, I own a couple of actiontec MoCa 2.0 adapters, but I cant get more than 2 running at the same time when the rooms are far apart. I assume this is because the moca signal that runs through the coax network is too weak, i am not using an amplifier YET and i am not using cable TV. I MERELY use MoCa for the distribution of internet in my home... Now, I want to boost that signal with an amp that is moca compatible, but where do i put it? What should the order of devices be here? I would probably put the amp midway to the far reaching areas. Probably in a spot where you have a splitter now.

Lon.TV thanks so much for replying! Unfortunately I cannot access my coax cables mid-way since they‘re being split in the same room where my router is and I don’t know to which rooms they lead :( Where would you put the amp normally, if there were no rooms that are too far way?

My coax light would turn on anybody now how to fix that problem

Does it serves as a cable modem or I need to buy a modem and a router for wifi connection?

I'm surprised you didn't discuss how to connect the MoCA adapter and cable modem/router in the same room. Both need to have coax plugged into them (in addition to the ethernet from router to MoCA adapter) and some may wonder if they can use the TV/pass-thru output on the MoCA adapter or if they should instead use a splitter before the cable that branches to the MoCA adapter and cable modem. But in this case they need to be sure not only to use a MoCA compatible splitter (up to 1675 MHz) but to test their cable modem speed/signal before and after the splitter to determine if the performance is degraded or impeded. If so they may need to use a directional cable "tap" splitter that allocates more signal to one terminal on the splitter than to the tap side, so the tap can connect to the MoCA adapter and the stronger terminal to the cable modem.

It's also important to note that old splitters (inside and outside the walls) should be replaced with ones that support MoCA (up to 1675 MHz).

Thanks so much for the informative video. This answers all my questions but one. I've heard that special MoCA-compatible coax splitters are required to be installed between the coax cables that run to each room in the home in order for the (ActionTec) MoCA devices to be able to communicate effectively. The two splitters that my cable company has installed do not specifically advertise MoCA compatibility, but are rated from 5 to 1000, and 5 to 1002 MHz. They appear to be of a decent quality make. I should mention I have cable Internet and cable TV service. Will these splitters work, or would I need to purchase, say, up to 1.5 GHz or 2 GHz splitters? If they work, I'm all set. Thanks!

I just came here to ask this question. All my splitters going to router and TV are 5 to 1000MHz. Did you find out if you needed to replace them all with MOCA splitters?

@@Kman31ca Nope, they all work fine! I got ActionTec ECB6200 adapters, I guess I've had them for 4 years now and they're still going, super reliable and fast. Couldn't be happier.

I have two cats but they don't seem to mess with wires or cables. If anything they might prevent rodents from chewing the cables and wires because they are good at catching those things outside.

Do you need a POE Filter if you have fiber to ONT Verizon? So basically I have fiber to 18" coax cable hooker to a splitter.

Same here. FiOS. Fiber from street to coax into home to splitter to router. We cut the tv service and only use it for internet. Want to extend my 500/500 speed to my bedroom which I'm using a slow powerline wall adapter to extend my ethernet signal from the office where the router is, but it's very slow. I want to try this instead.

@@sjsphotog Hey, I have a Verizon Gateway in the basement getting 300/300. It's hooked to coax cable from the splitter. The router which puts out MOCA into the entire house, like a back feed is one way to look at it. I had a Verizon Actiontec extender laying around to use as a MOCA Adapter. I bought an ASUS router that hooked to ethernet port 1 on the extender. The port gets 300/300 then ran that to ASUS to get me more ports and Ass-Kicking 300/300 wifi. I might go to 500/500 but for now, it rocks! (Asus Routers will also mesh with other Asus routers if needed in the future!

@@hugh2200 verizon was bought by Frontier so they now use Arris routers. I need to find out if they have MoCA built in or not.

you only need a filter if you have coax coming into the home as the main source of tv/internet, like comcast or cox cable.... if you have verizon fios, the incoming signal is fiber-optic, and the coax does NOT connect to the street. you only need 1 filter. the coax comes into the home, and connects to the multi-way splitter for your home. depending on rooms, it could be a 4/6/8/12 way splitter. you would put the filter between them. so the cable comes in the home, filter, then connect it to the multi-way splitter which delivers a signal to each room.

Does the filter interfere with the internet telephone device ?

Usually a router, and if your ISP provides you with a router/modem then you connect from one of the ports on this router/modem to another switch then to the MoCA and other devices or directly to a MoCA

Lon, I'm looking to move to a wired-only setup... can I place a goCoax in front of my cable modem, then connect cable modem out of the TV out, then ethernet from cable modem to managed switch, followed by an ethernet running back to the goCoax from switch? FYI - if you address this in a future video I can point a number of EMF sensitive folks your way who will be looking to do the same.

@@LonSeidman Not sure exactly how things are behind the walls, but only two options I have where I know drops are live / tested by the cable guy when moved in are the 2 jacks where cable modem and tv box are now... so in front of tv box is the winner? Thanks!

doesn't it defeat the purpose if you have to connect another coax cable to the modem? that means a coax port needs to be installed near the modem. but if youre going to take the time to install a coax port near the modem, why not just install an ethernet port instead?

You guys completely skipped over the comcast moca router scenario. In this scenario there is a moca setting turned on in the admin login. Great. So the comcast router only has coax in and not coax out. So, how do we get the coax router access point to talk to the TV box on the other side of the house?

It doesn't need coax out so long as it's on the same "loop" as your TVs. If you plug in a Moca device on any of the cable outlets it'll work provided Moca is activated on the router. Just note that sometimes it's Moca 1.0 and not very fast.

@@LonSeidman Not getting it. How is DHCP being handled by the access point router? Are you saying that the coax is back feeding the secondary moca unit?

How about application with Direct TV or DISH? Isn't there system a MOCA for total house play.

@Chip: Yup. DTV: DECA. DISH: Joey and Hopper. Here's the long form answer: DirecTV has MoCA products designed specifically for their frequency band. DirecTV MoCA bridges will only work with DirecTV installations unless you have a totally separate coax TV cable network for cable/off air. Another requirement is that the customer have a SWM (Single Wire Multi-Switch) install which is being put into all new HD households. DirecTV’s MoCA bridge is called DECA (DirecTV Ethernet-to-Coax Adapter) and is available from various online retailers. DISH Network has MoCA products designed specifically for their frequency band too. Hopper, Joey and Super Joey have built-in MoCA bridges that will only work with DISH installations, unless you have a totally separate coax TV cable network for cable/off air.

Cali Klepto I had the same problem. The one is your wall is most likely for a landline phone and if you have a coax outlet in the room you want wired internet then you should be fine. This fix is for people like you and me who don’t already have Ethernet ports in their walls.

I have a question I have 100 Mb internet, so MOCA adapters turns it into 1gb wiring ?

Patrick Ituriaga no. It adds a hardwire connection to an area that no Ethernet connection was available in before.

Doesn't work for internet provides that already use the cable line. It's only for DSL service

ActionTech is probably the most reliable one available at retail but they also are more expensive.

my situation: I have FIOS and use Ethernet port and my own router for my internet/ WiFi. currently my FIOS modem is used strictly for the cable guide (using MOCA). This device is located in the home, The ONT is in the garage. I would like to move the modem next to the ONT. The question is where would I place the modem? between the ONT and the input to the first splitter? on into one of the outputs of the first splitter ? so that all of the set top boxes still are able to get the guide info on screen. If anyone can help that would be appreciated. I am unable to identify where to current COAX running into the FIOS modem to know where and what it connects to. Thanks in advance

easy fix. buy a moca box, liket he go-coax 2.5, or motorola 2.0 bonded, or actiontec 2.0 bonded.... from the ONT, out comes cat6, which connects to your router. if you want said router in the garage, do it. I assume your ONT is next to all your coax house wiring? Our ONT was installed right next to our home Coax box in the basement. The ONT will connect to your house caox wiring from the coax out on the ONT. which then usually goes into a 8 way splitter (or more, or less) which then sends a coax to each room. If there is an extra port on that 8 way splitter, just plug the moca box into that, with the other cat6 end going into port 4 of your router (or any of the normal ports). then for each room you need internet, simply have a moca box in that room. for verizon, do NOT put the set top box on the "tv out" of any moca adapter. it will cause issues. for my living room as example, since im a cripple, I have a 2 way splitter. so the coax comes out the wall, into the splitter. then one side of the splitter goes to my moca 2.0 bonded box, and the other to my set top box. this way each gets their own moca signal and moca lanes. if you plug the tv guide into the "tv/stb" side of the moca box, the set top box wont get tv-guide, and my computer would get locked at moca 1.1 speeds (as verizon set top boxes aren't using 2.0 yet).

I thought MoCA didn’t work with satellite TV but the beginning of this video said it does?

I had to use a Broadband DECA when I had DirecTV. It's a very old form of MOCA and its limited to 100mbps. But on the plus side the DECAs are cheap as hell on Amazon.

wont work with satellite, these moca boxes use the 1150 to 1650mhz band. the same as satellite tv service. it would cause issues/not work. if you have satellite, you are stuck using direcTV boxes, which as travis said, is old and slow.

Are they VLAN aware?

I dont get one thing ! My internet comes already from a coax out of the wall to the modem, then a network cable from the modem to the router. If i want to use my coax netwaork as my "main network" how can I send the signal back into the coax 'network' as I have only One outlet in the wall ? Do I need a splitter from the wall with one end going to the moca and the return coming back from the router to the splitter second access ?

I think a coax is a two ways cable, thus I must go like this : Wall to Moca in, Moca out to modem, modem to router and finaly router to moca ethernet. That should allow me to then use any of my coax outlets as a network "plug" , But I am not sure :(

@@LonSeidman I confirm, it works. With Videotron in Canada. The wall outlet is connected to the coax in of the MOCA. The TV/out is connected to the modem wich in turn is connected to the router via ethernet. Finally the router goes back to the Moca by ethernet. In doing this, I have wired internet through my coax network (In walls). As far as speed is concerned, I do have the exact same speed than my ISP gives me, thus 130 down, 20 up. This is definitely the best solution for people wanting a network without having to wire inside walls.

Agreed. It's amazing how many of the people doing MoCA videos fail to use some basic and clear diagrams for different use cases.

For God's sake, lose the iQtip.

seems a bit outdated. who wants to spend 169 per box and have them all over the house.. just use wireless 5g.

they are 60 bucks.... from go-coax.... on amazon. where you getting 170 per box? even 2 boxes would be 120.... wireless also has packet loss and jitter, which if you are a gamer, is a huge "fuck you" in performance. moca is more stable, and only adds about 5ms of latency. so for my example, connecting to an east coast game server, if I was on normal ethernet, I would have 5 ping. but with using coax being stuck in the living room as a cripple, I now get 10ping. not a huge difference. I currently have moca 2.0 bonded boxes and get about 600/600 of my full 1000/1000 signal. if I upgrade to these 60 dollar moca 2.5 boxes, I can get the full 1000/1000 through coax. and the ping drops 2ms (so 3ms gained instead of 5ms) as the newer moca has less overhead.
