Me too! My mom kept a album as a young girl, with photos of her in it( admired her so much!) & I remember looking through it as a young girl, myself! I remember Rita Hayworth’s pictures in particular ( from old Photoplay magazines & similar magazines like that) because she had such a pretty smile! She was always so vivacious & beautiful, full of joy, you could see. This video reminded me so much of my mother’s long ago album( miss my mom so much!) and wish I had held onto it. You are right though for your put it perfectly! Her smile truly was “infectious!”

When Jackie Wilson sang, "...and, with my lovin' arms around you..." and Fred and Rita threw their arms around each other, I flipped out. So perfect! Wow! This dance sequence goes so well with so many upbeat numbers. It's so great to watch over and over. Sadly, that world, that talent, that entertainment is long gone. But at least it's preserved here to watch over and over and over and ...

It was pretty common in this golden era of movies 1930s/40s for actors to have all the skills. Joan Crawford, James Cagney, Lauren Bacall, Mickey Rooney, (obviously) Judy Garland, Donald O'Conner and our own John Mills all started as 'song and dance' people. The contract system at the studios in those days made it almost impossible to refuse to do a movie the studio told you to do so the actors had to be prepared for dramatic, comedy or musicals. Interestingly, Ginger Rogers won her Academy Award for a dramatic role, not a dance movie, so it worked both ways.

Man; they could sing and dance back then! Fast forward to today...I wonder how many millions of people have even heard of "tap dancing"...so out of touch! I was born in the 50's and I lived through the greatest era of music - melodies, harmonies and just tons of talent! I don't think you can beat the 50's, 60's and 70's for what I refer to as "Real Music". I met a woman awhile ago, by the name of Diana and she invited me to her birthday party, which was today. I took my guitar with me and played "Diana" for her. In return, I received a big hug! Yesterday, I had my alto sax down at the beach and apparently, many people enjoyed it (I still consider myself to be a beginner). The point is; I'm doing my best to keep the music alive. I'm just an old guy, doing what I love and if it makes other people feel good - that's a bonus!

I collected every movie on all three I could get my hands on and haven't stopped. In the process I found a HUGE LOVE of vintage film. I share the hopeless romance ones with my nieces of 11 & 8. They LOVE THEM. We go see the good ones when they play on oldies day at our local movie theater. My mom has passed now but I remember her telling me about Cary Grant & Rock Hudson. I love the greasy rotund Argentinian leading the band with nearly imperceptible hand movements - takes the cake. According to Hollywood folklore, a screen test report on Astaire for RKO Radio Pictures, now lost along with the test, is reported to have read: "Can't sing. Can't act. Balding. Can dance a little." I knew that Fred's name was a fiction and I'd assumed that was because of an overtly Jewish name But such was not the case. Astaire of course - sounds like - to the stars. He was of German /Lutheran extraction mainly. Oh, and I think he can dance. TE. Fidler NzL
