I bought this in ‘03 when I was 19 in college! Crazy thinking that was 20 years ago. I can totally relate to it smelling how the bottle looks! Purple! I gave this away shortly after purchasing. It was too sophisticated for me then. Ahead of its time. Something I could probably pull off better now as Im approaching 40. Might have to revisit this one. Thanks for the nostalgia!

I smelled it at Bloomingdales, I remember liking it but not being blown away. Thanks for the heads up on Lacoste Blanc intense. Picked up my bottle yesterday, great scent

Good call on the Aventus tie in. Fairly certain it’s the same perfumer. RL Purple has been said to be an early prototype for what became Aventus. This was my signature for about 15 years. Same bottle too, from 2006, as I rarely wore cologne and only a couple spritz when I did. When I really got back into fragrance in 2020 I traded it away. It had really macerated and evolved over time, into something really earthy and complex, but with that luscious blackberry. Great, great fragrance.

Took me a long time to score this one. I love it, so does my wife. Bleeker Street by Bond #9 is almost identical but has Blueberry instead of Blackberry and it lasts longer, but it’s much more expensive.

@@gerardgeorge It’s the only good Bond #9 I have tried. Overpriced house. I have a 10ml decant of it, I would say it’s redundant to have both, but Bleeker is better, but not by much.

@@Ranteon I’m testing them out right now and yeah I wouldn’t get Purple Label if I had Bleeker, but might get Bleeker if I already had Purple Label. The main difference is there is some earthiness in Purple Label and it doesn’t project or last as long as Bleeker. This and I like the realistic blueberry note in Bleeker better than Purple Label’s Blackberry note. The more they dry down the closer they get. Bleeker has a nicer presentation also. They are both really good but Bleeker is the better of the two in my opinion.

First off, early Merry Christmas, bud. Glad you liked it, I know I mentioned before, but this is one of the first fragrances that made me really open my eyes and realize what fragrance could be. Before that it was like, Chrome, Eternity, and Cool Water and I'd just think "That's the gym one, that's the date one, that's casual one." Also, funny you mention a younger guy and an older guy wearing this because I think when this came out I was probably right around 20 and now I'm not 20. Still love it though. Jokes aside, I think you hit the nail on the head. This doesn't smell like Aventus, but I one hundred percent believe that it inspired Aventus and probably a few other scents as well. The journey this one has from dark fruity, to aromatic, to that slightly earthy dry down is the kind of thing you can easily just overlook, but if you sit with it and pick out the notes as they change, it's pretty special. The one note that I think gives it an older school feel is the oakmoss, but from the way it mixes with the mahogany, I almost get a suede feel even though suede isn't a listed note. This is one that I've been able to wear year round for any occasion and I've never felt like it's been out of place. A good friend of mine was getting married, and he's a life long goofball (Walked down the aisle with gunfighter music) and I wore it to his wedding. I've also worn it because I was going to Costco. Amazingly, Ralph Lauren has never reformulated this. It smells exactly the same today as it did in the vintage bottles. As of last month I smelled a bottle that was 12 years old, smelled the exact same as a new bottle. Bond No. 9 tried to shamelessly steal this one and call it Bleecker Street. There's a whole story around it that I don't want to speculate on, but I'll say Bleecker street is three times as expensive as Purple Label and not as good. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it, I heard it might be getting discontinued which would be a massive shame and I hope that's not true. It's still on their website so maybe it's just a rumor. Still, this is one that everyone should own.

A 10/10 beautiful versatile and uplifting fragrance. Signature scent worth it. The older bottles had absolutely no issues concerning performance. Must've been reformulated...

Nice. I see it’s available now direct from RL. I wanted it all last year and couldn’t find it for a normal price. Ended up getting a decant. Hopefully still around after the holidays.

Gerard, do you remember Ralph Lauren Romance Silver back in the day? By far my favorite from RL, it’s been discontinued for a long time now but this Purple Label gets compared to it and was wondering just how close it is.

Under performing fragrance. Very good scent, but average sillage and lasts only around 4 hours. Too pricey for what it delivers.

I definitely wasn’t impressed with performance.

How's the longevity and preferences? I just got into fragrances about a month ago and I have been really interested in getting a fragrance with a blueberry, black berry, or grap notes I'm it. If you have any recommendations it would be greatly appreciated!

Neither are great but this is a more subtle, refined fragrance by design. I'm happy with the performance especially when spraying clothes.
