Holy Shät, I had no idea Janusz would have such strong of an opinion about Marx. Hoping to see more videos with him. It is also interesting to see how young people's opinion on regards to their favorite philosophers is so different from adults. How younglings love so much Zizek and Foucault and the like, because they put everything established upside down, and how older people like Kant and Nietzsche because they feel that they provide some kind of common ground for theory. Jasón Bustos I think he dislikes Marx because he is from Hungary (or so I guess), a country which has not made pleasant experiences with communism (compare Imre Nagy, Imre Kertesz etc.), and is therefore clear about the cruel excession that this ideology has caused.

Some time ago I really liked Alain de Botton. And when I was in high school I heard Zizek's "why be happy, when you can be interesting?" and I think about that quote a lot.

I find quite absurd this (widespread?) knowledge about Z'iz'ek, Foucault while no marxist background is even in discussion...just Janusz makes his personal comment, truly man-in-the-street philosopher, perhaps hopeful to represent 'people's good sense' - I can smell an East background, if not just an impression of mine. Slovenia has ever been an hidden but significative poit of view...

Heidegger and Kant are impossible to read. They need to be studied. You will need secondary literature even to try to understand the original texts. But Nietzsche is really simple and fun to read. Most of his time Nietzsche was so sick that he couldn't write any long texts. So most of his books are more like a collection of aphorisms and thoughts.

yes, I love him too. I want to list up just a few moments I think sort of revolutionary to give you an idea of what I meant. I will mention only a few but I really think this should be the next theme for my episode. Because there are many fascinating moments in the history of philosophy. First is Tales of Miletus. Because he was the first one to try to explain things without referring to Gods interacting. It is like a birth of a reasoning thinking. Then Anaximenes: he has introduced a first monistic system. Telling that all our reality is out of a one substance. And that we could never measure it. (I notice that my English is not enough to explain it so spontaneously. I still want to try but please remember that it is difficult for me to explain such complicated things in a language I don't really speak much) :D I will quote a sentence I found in Wikipedia: "This tendency to identify one specific underlying reality made up of a material thing is what Anaximenes is principally known for today." Only it is really false (I think) because his idea of this underlying reality was not material. It was "apeiron" which he thought as a NOT material, not definable substance. This is huge because I believe that this is a little bit what our modern science is telling us. I will continue my list tomorrow :D

I believe I understand. You mean a monist system as opposed to a _duelist_ system in which everything is composed of _two_ substances. Yes. I've heard of this. I've also heard of Tales of Miletus. He's the one pre-Socratic I know of. They mentioned him in the video as I recall. Are you sure you don't use English often? I must say, your English is better than my German.

Mein lieblingsphilosop ist Emmanuel kant. Er hat gut über den Welt erklärt. er hat über die Aufklärung gut erklärt. ich finde das sehr interessant. er sagt, Die Aufklärung ist die Ausgang des Menschen aus seiner selbst verschuldeten Unmündigkeit.

Toll! Ich lerne Deutsch um zu deutschen Philosophen besser verstehen. Vor allem Kant,Hegel, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche. Ich glaube,dass Parmenide, Epicuro, Socrate, Platone, Aristotele auch sehr wichtig sind. Vielen Dank schöne Video. Liebe Grüße

Shankaracharya ist kein Philosoph. Er ist theologischer Denker, wie Thomas von Aquin. Beide sind religiöse oder spirituelle Denker. Es gibt einen Unterschied zwischen philosophisch und theologisch.

Mein Lieblingsphilosoph war immer Descartes, und ich interessierte mich sehr für die Pre-Socraten, aber ich denke, der wichtigste Philosoph unserer Zeit ist zweifellos Marx und ich bin überhaupt nicht in Ordnung mit Janus. Marx ist, heutzutage mehr als nie, absolut im Trend: das Problem war auf keinen Fall Marxismus, sondern wie die Menschen Marxismus benutzen, um den Macht zu erreichen; meiner Meinung nach pervertieren sie die beste Ideen, um sie zu transformieren, und eine Ausrede haben, um den Macht auszunutzen. Aber Marxismus ist sehr nutzlich noch heute, um den kapitalistischen Hunger zu beruhigen. Trozdem wären wir noch schlechter als heute

​@@Torevent Die gute Idee war der Frühsozialismus bzw. utopische Sozialismus. Was Marx, Engels und später Lenin entwickelten war den wissenschaftlichen Sozialismus und Kommunismus, d. h. die wissenschaftliche Ausarbeitung davon. Deswegen war es in ehemals sozialistischen Ländern gang und gebe, Marxismus-Leninismus zu lehren, weil es eine Wissenschaft, und nicht eine einfache Idee war, auch wenn, wie Joan Lluís Santamaria schon sagte, es oft pervertiert und kritiklos gelehrt wurde. Ich denke aber nicht, dass alle Staatsführer der sozialistischen Länder nur Macht haben wollten für sich allein. Sicher, Stalin, Breschnew, vielleicht auch Mao Zedong (wobei ich mir bei ihm nicht sicher bin) strebten mehr nach Macht als nach Fortschritt. Aber es war nicht bei der Mehrheit der sozialistischen Staatsführer so.

Totally amazing! It is unimaginable that one could do a similar survey in the UK and get so many respondents who could name a favourite. The older generation might do better because they at least had a Monty Python song to teach them a few names. LOL!

Kant!! Der ist einfach toll. Kirkegård ist aber auch sehr interessant! Ich liebe Philosophie einfach, das ist so ein unglaublich wichtiges und spannendes Thema! Würde ich auch sehr gerne später mal studieren :)

Wow, vlt. schätze ich das falsch ein, ist aber selten jmd. mit diesem Interesse zu finden. Viel Glück(llichsein) auf diesem Weg Dir! :) Verstehe es etwas. Philosophie ist mein Leiden, Lieben und Leben auch. :)

Sehr gutes Video. Am liebsten lese ich Kant, Hegel und Marx. Das ist für mich eine sehr wichtige Triade in der Geschichte der Philosophie. Deswegen muss ich sagen, dass ich total dagegen Januszs Glauben bin. Auf den Texten von Marx gibt es nichts was Janusz gesagt hat. Trotztdem ist es wahr, dass der Realsozialismus im xx Jahrhundert viele Zerstörung und Leiden gemacht hat. Aber es ist nicht so einfach, die Philosophie von Marx zu verdammen.

"Fun" fact: Hitler's book in Germany is forbidden to have or download or whatever. In the very first chapters of it, Hitler states that his 2 most hated and dangerous writers are Nietzsche and Marx. Is there a greater compliment than being Hitler's most hated person?

Easy Italian Warum ?

As someone with a degree in philosophy, i just dont believe that ANYONE who understands Hegel would ever pick him as favorite philosopher. I remeber i was on this big Heglists convent when i overheard dispute of four well known professors (about a cathegory from Grundlinien der Philosophie des Rechts)... They all agreed at the end that they had no idea what Hegel meant.

Kant ist nicht trocken und langweilig, ganz im Gegenteil. Er zündet meinen eigenen Gedankenprozess an, obwohl er keine fertige Antworte gibt. Denken ist harte Arbeit, und die besten Philosophen machen es uns nicht leicht.

Ich habe einmal ein Werk from Augustinus von Hippo gerne gelesen. Er war glaube ich eher ein Theologe (Verteidiger der Wahrheit) und kein Philosoph (Sucher der Wahrheit).

Eine sehr gute Folge, zu solchen Themen fände ich auch noch andere Videos spannend. Das ist mal was ganz anderes und super interessant. Und zur Frage - Jean-Paul Sartre ist mein Lieblingsphilosoph und Schriftsteller! Ich halte den Existentialismus für eine extrem wichtige Philosophie und Sichtweise.

Bertrand Russell habe ich sehr gerne. Als Ingenieur mein persönlicher Favorit. Mir gefällt Harald Lesch und seine Perspektiven bezüglich Klima in Kombination mit der Weltgeschichte. Ein anderer lebender Philosoph ist Richard David Precht und seine Ansicht auf die Auswirkungen der Digitalisierung. Aber der coolste ist noch immer Sokrates, trinkt und wandelt umher und fragt Fragen, seine ganze Geschichte ist ein totales Unikat :'D

Ich lerne Deutsch und Englisch und so habe ich beide diese Idiome aufgesucht, und ich muss sagen, dass sie etwas völlig anders bedeuten. "Sich die Zähne auszubeißen an etwas" bedeutet etwas trotz großer Anstrengung nicht bewältigen können, i.e. to be unable to master something despite great effort. "To cut one's teeth" aber bedeutet die Grundlagen einer Tätigkeit lernen. Diese zwei Idiome können vielleicht "falsche Freunde" gennant werden.

When Janusz says (at 1:49) "in unserem Alter" (es ist wichtig dein eigene Philosoph zu sein) - I was confused about the meaning "at our age". Is he referring to the (similar?) age of himself and the man he is talking to or does he mean more like "these days"? I didn't think Janusz was the same age as this man (but maybe he is?)...

Im Moment lese ich meistens ökonomische Philosophen wie die 2 französischen Thomas Piketty und Emmanuel Saez. Sie sind in den Vereinigten Staaten besser bekannt als in Frankreich dank ihrer Arbeit über die Ungleichheiten in der amerikanischen Gesellschaft, deren Schlussfolgerungen vom Weißen Haus und den amerikanischen linken Aktivisten aufgenommen werden. Ich las gern "Kritik der reinen Vernunft" von Immanuel Kant.

Mein Lieblingsphilosoph ist Wittgenstein, ich denke er ist sehr wichtig weil er spricht über die Problematik der Sprache. Ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch o.o
