Your educational qualifications don't count in Canada

Good information. In terms of Canadian and American culture, *experience* counts more than education for getting a job. It's a part of the region's history as being colonized by "self-starting pioneers". Unless you have an advanced degree from a North American or Western European university, your degree will likely not be accepted in Canada - even a medical degree -- or a PhD. However, if you have *documented* technical skills and *experience* in fields like accounting, trades, engineering, IT, etc. etc. you have a better chance. But it will *still* be difficult to get ahead as an immigrant from a non-North American or non-European country. People will assume that your experience is not the same as "Canadian experience". For a country where people come from all over the world, it becomes very difficult for employers to judge whether a person who worked as a dental hygienist or received an MBA in Korea received the same level of training and experience as a person from Cameroon. So they discount all of the non-Canadian experience. It's the hard truth.

Great video, I also make videos on settlement but more than that, I get 7-10 messages everyday about how they have masters and this and that but they cant find a job in Canada. I always tell them, Canada is different. Here experience over education, unlike India or Pakistan where your degree defines your status, where your status defines your class in society, here it is opposite. I have managers who did not even have bachelors but working in field from 20 years and became managers, then I have people with Masters who are roaming because they dont have skills for an interview nor they can speak the way recruiters want them. Next thing I always here is that I am demotivating them which is upsetting because this is the truth. Anyone who is honest will tell you this.

So bad we do, like sometimes i just lough in IT people wanting computer science degree honestly is illogical given how technology is changing like every 5 years. look how we run so fast from 2G,3G, 4G and now 5G someone graduated with a computer science degree in 2008 is irrelevant if that person is not being educating himself or herself with tense and highly solving issues with work world certification like CCNA, CCNP, CCIE Microsoft, CEH, CISA and now Cyber for example Universities are not having solutions to offer in today cyber security issues the world is facing highly recommended certification favoured by DoD (department of defense) are certs within leading industries in the game. A university takes them 4 years to produce a computer scientist whose just fed theory not real life example.

Degrees are preferred in Africa, Europe and the United states. Canadians don't value education. You might be a MBA employee and you can work under someone with a College or high Certificate. In the IT field degrees add value in Canada. There are many minorities with masters and PHP's in Canada who cannot find job.

There are several security and law enforcement courses you can do, most times it is not required, you can just volunteer, get the canadian experience while volunteering and apply for jobs. You may not be eligible to join the Canadian force or any other military parastatal until you become a citizen. But other law enforcement agencies like the CBSA, Corrections and Police does not need any form of specialized education

Sadly, this is true. I got to Canada via mcf scholarship so i had to do MSC else I'd hv done a diploma here However, it depends on who you are, if you're a genius and u think PhD is ur dream please do it cos top multinationals love it eg Nestle, Unilever etc. As a food scientist I've seem PhD job positions. I appreciate all your effort WOLO.

Thank you so much for the information. I have a masters in Law from an American University, and I hope to write and pass the New York bar exam next year July. What are my chances of emigrating to Canada and getting a job in any law or legal related field. I don't mind starting low.

Hi WOLO, Thank you very much for your updates. I'd appreciate if you answer this question in a video. So I just Graduated from a Nigerian polytechnic with an HND in Business Administration Management (BAM) I would be leaving for NYSC orientation camp soon. I intend to Proceed for my Masters Program Abroad either in Canada, Germany or USA. Do I need to write exams to gain admission? Can I apply directly with my HND. Or better still what options are available for me with my qualification +will I be able to access grants or scholarships. As well as the estimated prospective cost to prepare. I Know you're in CANADA so enlighten me. If you have an idea of the other countries you can provide answers too. Thanks in Anticipation

I have done a video on the cost of living as a student, tuition and living expense so you can check it out. You can apply directly, some schools will require that you search for a project supervisor before you get admission for a masters. You can access scholarships

@@CanadaInfohub thank you Will for the reply. On project, I wrote project twice. One for my ND the other for my HND I had supervisors. So do you our kind of projects we carry out in Nigeria before a Certificate is awarded or there's another project. Also for Masters which would you prefer, Should I come on E.E or PNP before applying for Masters while in Canada or I apply for my Masters first then wait after my studies. Which is safer and easier so settle down?
