In Forbidden City, the "pots" you mentioned were filled with water for fire prevention. In the past history, there were palaces burned down due to fire accident as the result of the vast wooden structure and scarcity of water source. So as you would have noticed, inside the forbidden city, there are many large size of water filled pots (in the past) all over places to put-off fire

and no lightning rods/conductors in the past which means tall wooden structures were susceptible to fire damage from lightning strikes.

@@SuperCarrotBob In Beijing,you can't fly drones, and the drone view in the video is supposed to be video footage found online. However this footage is not the real Forbidden City, but a film city located in southern China, hence the green roof.

The scale and size are mind boggling considering how long ago it was built and the maintenance of these sites are so impressive. Your kids will learn more from traveling than doing any type of classes at a western school.

My family visited Beijing in 1999 for a week and greatly enjoyed the experience. One evening we ordered two Peking ducks and many dishes; the evening meal was wonderful. We had a private guided tour with a chauffeur and English speaking tour guide throughout the seven days. Thank you for your great video. It brings back memory. I have watched your other videos in other parts of China. They are equally enlightening. Your daughters are lovely.

Travelling China is not necessarily expensive. If you have money you can do it the luxurious way. If you don't have that much money, you can do it the budget way. Both ways can give you almost equal enjoyment. First thing first, save some money. The trip will come one day.

The aerial view at 0:09 and 3:50 is actually not the actual forbidden city in beijing. It’s the heng Dian world film studio in Zhejiang. It’s built for films since the actual forbidden city cannot be used for film production! (Smaller is size and does not include all buildings) Glad to see some good Beijing content!

These are the largest wooden buildings in the world. They are also earthquake proof as Beijing sits in an earthquake zone, miniature models tested showed they can withstand an earthquake with a Magnitude over 9.0+ !
The drone view of the Forbidden City that appears repeatedly in this video is not the real Forbbiden City in Beijing, it is a copy in Hengdian, Zhejiang for film and TV making.

forbidden city is around 600 years old, to be more accurate.
Did you know, they build it to prevent birds come in.

I would like to point out an error. The aerial video you are using is not of the Forbidden City. That place is called Hengdian Forbidden City. It's a film and TV base built specifically to shoot ancient movies.

The pots are for store water to put out the fire. The pot use to be cover with gold but been scrape off by the Eight-Nation Alliance when they attach Beijing.
I am impressed you studied history of the forbidden city. There is a stand near the entrance you can rent audio guide device, there is english version as well. It helps you to understand forbidden city more.
4:37 the pot is for water reservoir in case of fire hazard. Chinese architectures are made of wood. Fire is the biggest threat to them. There's no trees and plants in the palace for the same reason. Just imagine when the emperor saw you are trying to set fire in the pot😯.

The aerial video of the Forbidden City is not the Forbidden City in Beijing. It is a replica of the fake Forbidden City in Hengdian City, Zhejiang Province, China, used for filming movies and TV shows. Because the Forbidden City in Beijing is too busy and there are too many cultural relics to be protected, it is not suitable as a filming location.
