Today I am showing you why your breakdown and buildup sucks how to o fix it like a pro. This can help get insane breakdowns, energetic buildups and huge drops using tension and release like your favourite pro producers. This is my most in depth breakdown tutorial and my first buildups tutorial. I'm using Ableton Live, but all of these techniques and principles are applicable to Logic, Cubase, Reason, FL Studio, Studio One, Bitwig and all other popular DAW's.

What I figured out to create more dynamics is to lower the volume linear by -1.5db until the drop with a Utility on the master and lower the stereo width on the master aswell -30% pre drop. So when the drop comes in it gives you a perceived loudness and more perceived more stereo width.

Nice one, you can also do the same thing in reverse with the stereo width making it extra wide and then bring it back in at the drop. Works really well if you have a really tight drum groove.

@@BTTREdits I figured out that it is about the genre and contrast, if your drop has a wide synth as a main sound like in big room genre, you can make the buildup tiny, but if your drop is a groovy drum in house genre, it will contrast better with a wide synth/vocals opening & tiny drums like in this video.

Relevant, and well articulated as always. Thank you for this. Incidentally, I implemented a bunch of these techniques in a recent track. You'll hear it in the track feedback session later. Thanks again!

A tip that I offer to others that has been extremely beneficial to myself is that after you have created your drop let's say your drop goes eight bars try looping from the odd bar to the odd bar For instance try starting your loop at the second bar and going to the fifth bar Extracting the very middle of your Sometimes just looping that middle creates an incredibly awesome breakdown
