The best way to deal with burnout is to listen to your own body. We overdo things that isn't healthy for our mental or physical health. Keeping in check when your body needs rest and food time to time and not abusing yourself mentally to overdo works. Your needs comes first stay hydrated, sleep well and eat healthy.❤

Thursday the stomach problems hit. I work 4 ten hour days so Friday is my first day of my weekend and that's when my weekly migraine hits and I sleep for 14-16 hours. I’ve heard that burnout is caused not just from too much work, but also a lack of meaning or fulfillment in what you do. This is one of the reasons why doctors can work for DAYS at a time without getting burnt out, because they find their work meaningful. Going back to the single mothers, maybe they’re able to go through so much and do so much because they find that it’s meaningful for their child.

It's not that often that I say I like living where I do, but one of the benefits is I can go to doctor and get payed sick leave because of burnout. Specially if I say I'm also struggling with depression. I got two weeks leave for burnout from a doctor last year. It's sooooo helpful to have the chance to just...stop. Later of course I had battle the thoughts that I don't deserve time to stop or guilt that I even asked for help. But I guess I'm work in progress.

Nowadays, the stigmas against taking sick leave or "mental health day" seems to be slowly disappearing but there's still the belief that "mental health days" are considered lazy. However, taking mental health days can be just as important as taking rest when you're feeling physically ill. So it's great to see that you're taking the time you need to rest and that you're fighting to not feel guilty about it! :)

I tend to experience burnout often. Someone that has been told that I only think of myself when I was a teen (granted I always try to help a lot and barely do things for myself), I put other people’s problems and feelings before my own. I buy things for my partner more than myself. Even while working, going home I would cook and clean as well and run errands. Maybe I have one day or two (not in a row) where I get a break to sit and relax. Burnouts mentally and physically are common for me.

How do you get started when getting started isn't an option. I read an article recently published by Johns Hopkins talking about the connection between gut health and mental health, specifically depression triggered by stress. I started eating yogurt and (thawed frozen) fruit for breakfast a few days each week and it's made a world of difference for me. I've also come to love kimchi and usually eat it straight out of the jar lol. Normally when I get stressed out, I can't handle anything and can barely get out of bed. But recently I've experienced being stressed and still perfectly able to manage my daily tasks. For everybody who is experiencing burnout, please be kind to yourselves and remember that taking care of YOU is super important!

Burnout is not just about work. Caring and family responsibilities can be even more chronically stressful. Eg I am sole carer for my severely disabled husband. I do get some help but never never respite. There is no end and no way out. I can’t get signed off work by a doctor or leave my job. I love my husband who is kind and undemanding of me despite his physical helplessness but we are stuck where we are. It would be great if you could do more content on caring and family responsibilities and stresses not just work and study pressures. A lot of us viewers are an older demographic. Thank you for all you do.

Once I had many of the symptoms and told a “friend” about it and he said “no you don’t have burnout, that happens when you work over 100 hours per week”… when I quit the job I had at the time half of the symptoms went away but the other half remained so I’m suspecting my burnout is coming from living with my parents rather than the excessive demands of the job I had. A little bit of context: pandemic made me withdraw to my parents house while working for home so it felt like a blessing at first bc I didn’t had to pay rent with the catch that I had to help with house chores, but with my parents being elderly now i basically end up doing over 60% the work of 3 people combined, also with a super narrow vision of life (like they think the world still works as in the 70s-90s) and a superiority complex of “we know better because we’re old” they keep rejecting my decisions because “I’m still young so I still don’t know how to take good decisions” (well to be fair there is some truth to that, I could always leave and just pay rent to get that peace of mind I lack at home)

I've been working in homeoffice for the last 3 years now and I can relate to most of those problems, especially combined with the untreated depression I've been carrying around for 20 years and this is why I want to give you a quick tips on how to get rid of some of those symptoms (not for good, but at least temporarily). 10 Minutes relaxation is good, but better it is to just lay down in your bed and maybe sleep for half an hour, no phone around, just the quiet and you. WORK.OUT! It might be a common trope but it actually helps a lot. Not only are you using the glucose in your body, but you will also make your body produce more Testosterone which works similar to dopamine and ultimately makes you happier. It also helps against headaches due to the higher oxygen in your blood and better blood pressure. Same goes for Heart Problems. Insomnia is still an issue for me but it got a lot better since I'm working out, mostly because you used up your energy, but if you still can't sleep, go get some melatonin pills and use them whenever you feel like your sleep schedule got out of hand, don't use it daily tho :) And one last thing that was really important to me. FIND A PURPOSE. Doing the same thing every single day without actually achieving anything for you personally will grind your mind down to someone who barely exists anymore. Maybe it's enough for you to just know that todays workout pushed you further to your goal of having a nice body or maybe you want to write a book, start a youtube channel that might or might not be your income in the future. Maybe you want to learn about investing. Just do literally anything towards a goal you set in your life. You will sleep so much better knowing that today, you did something productive, something for you, something noone can take from you.

Thank you for this video. I'm dealing with serious burnout. I have virtually all of these signs. I'm always tired, I constantly crave sweets, headaches have been daily, I have a light chest pain here and there, stomach aches, and I never feel like I get enough sleep. A doctor visit yesterday led to me being given a diagnosis of hypertension, so I'm working on getting my blood pressure down. I feel like my job has everything to do with it... but at the same time I have nowhere else to go. I feel lost, I feel stuck. :(

I've experienced introvert burnout before and the symptoms were similar in the video. I remember my stomach hurting and not giving myself tome to relax because of work and other things happening. I even had two panic attacks within a week. The best way I coped with it were going to therapy and writing a journal entry when necessary.

hey! I wondered if you would one day cover "cyclothymia"? I haven't been diagnosed, but I'd like to learn about it in a way that it's not compared to bipolar disorder (even if many say that cyclothymia is a bipolar disorder), because when professionals talk about it, it feels as if they call cyclothymia an "easier" condition because bipolar is worse. And I understand that reasoning very much, but just because a disorder is milder doesn't mean it is simply to deal with. And you all always educate us so free of judgement, and I've had enough of being guilt-tripped for not being okay. Of course, I know your videos aren't diagnostic tools. Thank you for all you do

Yep, this checks out ALL of the stuff I'm going through. Being home for the worst of the past 3 years during the pandemic really gave me no mental rest with an explosive dad and unhealthy talks over dinner. Ironic for wanting proper healthy meals tbh. I'm in a different country now and moving out to another place to stay soon, but the thought of it reduces me nearly into tears, which only worsened when my mom called me earlier. Why am I even alive?

For my own experience, I felt felt all the signs first. It wasn't until after my body finally crashed from the constant insomnia and pain in my chest and my stomach always feeling like it was fire... That I finally thought "Damn I'm burned out." I feel like I never entirely recovered, but I did learn how to keep the stress down. Now, recovering without the stresss feels weird. It's like knowing things need to get done, but not feeling any urgency because for so long everything was equally important, so now nothing seems like it is. That's not too say I'm not grateful for learning to finally live without the pain in my chest or the insomnia. That's fantastic. Readjusting is just... Different.

@@Psych2go Thank you for your response! I've tried running as anxiety leaves your body waiting for a flight or fight response, so running tells your body that you are away from danger. I have been resting when my body needs it, meditating, moving during my breaks, incorporating more nutritional food into my diet (especially fruits!) and sleeping earlier. Since I am studying more hours, my body seems to need more hours of sleep. As you can see I'm trying everything I can as I have made the mistake of overworking myself and not doing well on my exam due to my exhaustion, and I am determined to not let that happen again!

I have been dealing with every topic discussed since roughly 2018 and thought it may be PTSD from a prior career path, depression, memory loss issues, ADHD, laziness, etc. I couldn't really place it and out of fear of bad results, year after year, put off visiting a mental health expert. I have always thought it was my head that is messed up and needs to be fixed, but never seriously considered burnout until watching this randomly during a normal lunch break. I have a very busy lifestyle and rarely get a day to just fully shed any responsibilities. My brain is always pumping out stressful thoughts about what the future holds, I struggle to enjoy the good things in the here and now. I will consider that maybe burnout has been/is my issue, and will do my best to follow the advice of how to treat it. It would be amazing if it were something that I can have some control over without needing outside intervention.

I used to watch you when i was younger, like 12 to 13 years old when i was wistful to get a boyfriend and would watch all the videos about how to know if we are in love and things. As I got older I stopped watching those sorts of videos. But this was so perfectly placed. I mean I know im burntout. I dont need to see all the signs. The constant physical and mental exetion and stress and also the demotivation to do anything is a pretty clear sign to me. I am going forward with everything though, im not letting burnout stop me but keeping on top of the physical and mental strain is hard. Youd think getting a break helps and a proper sleep since I dont get to do that on school days. But the truth is, no matter how much sleep I get im always tired and everyone can tell that im not 100%. Right now I have some exams coming up where I feel the need to push myself to get the best result I can and ive been compensating for that with sugar. Not plain sugar but really sweet tea. Also a lot of food instead of forgetting to eat. I mean I do forget sometimes but usually im snacking on something. Im glad to see that youre still here spreading information about these sorts of things. Mental health is really important.
