    Great video, Eric! I use Flic buttons in my home. Your if/then automation is just what I was looking for. Thank you!

    Great video Eric. I use a lot of 'advanced' Automations within my Home, and the Shortcut option adds a whole additional level of functionality. Where things REALLY get fun/interesting is (if you have an 'always on' Mac for it to run on) when you incorporate the Signals App...so that even more actions/scripting is available. Thanks for the content!

    Really nice video - one question. How many workflows if I want to call them this do you have in your home? I am a bit concerned that it can get quite messy?

    Hi Eric, great video. I have been trying to figure out to run a short cut I created. on my phone with my home kit home and not my personal device. Example if I cancel the alarm on my home pod IF date is not FRI then turn on vanity light. If FRI turn on all bath lights. I do not use my phone for my alarms

    Great video, Eric. Is there a way to make an automation in the Home app where a motion sensor is activated only if the motion is a person? I wan’t to use the motion sensor in my Logitech Circle View camera to turn on the outdoor light when the motion sensor picks up motion that is a person.

    Off subject question, Eric. I’ve tried a few different ways to force iPhone’s always on display to stay on while plugged in to use it as a bedside table clock. My recent attempt was different automations hoping to “wake up” the phone. Haven’t had any success yet. Any ideas? Thanks! Of course, I realize there are apps that do this.

    Hi Can you create a shortcut or automation with level lock so your HomePod announce when door open and close.

    2:35 Are you sure you need the get state function first? I run very similar automations just starting with an if function.

    Hi, Is it possible to assign to a single switch consecutive cascading states like using a commuter? For example I'd like to turn on 5 lights pressing 5 times a button.

    Can you set this shortcut to run at a specific time? For example, I run The scene when my front door opens between 7pm to 11pm, but if it is not opened, I want to turn the light on at 930pm?

    I’m a fan of using scenes myself but having the upper limit of 100 scenes can really limit the broad use of these. I really hope they either get rid of the limit;might be impossible) or they increase it markedly.

    Hey Eric thanks for the video!, I realise it ‘s been out a while at this point but was wondering if you could answer a question? I’ve been trying to map a pre-existing Siri Shortcut to a Onvis thread button on my wall. I see in the video that the Shorctus app shows up as an option when you’re selecting the actions for the automation, but I can’t find that on my end. Do you know if that’s still something that’s accessible in your home app or did that get patched out in the last year as an update? Is it something that only the flic button can program? I’m specifically trying to toggle the status of my Tapó security camera which I can see the feed from the home app but I can only set the privacy shutter on/off through the TP-link app or via a shortcut.

    You can pair Flic and probably certain other buttons with your iPhone via Bluetooth instead of your smart home. kzread.info/dash/bejne/e2yHybiynpTPYJs.html

    Yeah this is a multi-layered topic that I’d like to do a video on sometime soon. There’s no magical fix, but there are some things to do and sometimes it’s just slow due to HomeKit issues or something else

    I've been trying to keep my smart home simple, but unfortunately I've ran into an issue with items that are not HomeKit compatible that I still want to control. I've ended up adding Google Home to my kids room rather than trying some kind of home bridge or waiting for Matter to finish rolling out. She has two strings of fairy lights and a galaxy projector that work with Google Home, so it was easier to set up their timers in Google. A Nest Mini is her room was not mandatory, but it makes it easier to give commands to the lights without having my phone or her tablet in the room. I hope Mater solves a lot of this for me, but for now I'm fine as long as I don't have anything important like cameras outside of my Apple Home.

    Until Matter catches up, you may want to consider HomeBridge as a, well, bridge to bring non-HK devices into HK.

    How come when you select the variable at 3:28 you lose the ability to decide if the power state is on or off? If you’re doing a ‘get the state of’ line and then an if statement does it just default to power state on or something?

  • @EricWelander

    @EricWelander

    Жыл бұрын

    It is confusing I agree but it's basically saying if power state == true or if the power is on.

  • @morells09

    @morells09

    @@EricWelander ok thanks, so would be the advantage of doing the ‘get power state’ first and then your if statement vs. just starting off with an if statement like ‘if light is off, turn on, otherwise turn off’?

    Is it just me... the Home app seems to be in a right state (no pun intended) at the moment? A lot of my automations have stopped working. I've read around that 16.4 should fix this as the fault lies in the maligned Home infrastructure upgrade in an earlier iOS 16 update.
