    Traveling internationally now. 1:30am local time, I wake up and see a missed call from the alarm response company. I have my Abode keypads set up as motion detectors in Away mode. The alarm company couldn’t reach me so they sent the police. The bummer is, there was nothing wrong. The camera that is in the same room as the keypad did not show any motion. That’s my one free false alarm and it makes me question the reliability of the Abode system.

    4D cinematic seems like the light follows the person talking on the tv, like if the person talking is at the left of the tv it matches the colors around them and dims the other area where the people not talking are located

    A big difference I found between these two doorbells is that the WeMo only works with mechanical/analog (ding-dong) door bells. (One leatns this after checking the instructions.) There are instructions that basically tie the front wire to transformer for digital doorbells, but this disables the much louder chime and only leaves HomeKit notifications. The larger chime kit for the Logitech includes a switch so it can be used with both analog and digital doorbells.

    Eric - just bought 2 U50 locks on Prime Day. Installed one, completed the process, and then went to pair it with my H3 hub. It was then that i realized that i installed the lock on our vacation home's page in the Aqara app. I reinstalled it in the correct home, but upon trying to reset the lock, it prompts for the pairing password. I didn't keep it from the initial install and now cannot reset the lock. I've tried Aqara support (not good) - no response. Are you aware of a way that i can either expose the pairing password, or bypass it to get the lock installed? Thanks in advance for your help.

    The problem with the AppleTV4k tvOS is that it doesn’t pass through Dolby TrueHD Atmos - so when I want to play my UltraHD BD films from my local file server, rather than touching plastic discs , the AppleTV crushes that audio to a flat 7.1 lpcm feed. Because “reasons”, which nvidea shield and Amazon don’t seem to have an issue with. The Apple blocking of letting me play my media the way I want, is still an obstacle. But it’s part of the broader industry trend as companies run this space into the ground trying to lock everyone into their own ecosystems. I have a 4K but each world just doesn’t play with the others so I cannot see my ring camera on my Google tv from Sony fed by my appletv4k. And that’s a shame in 2024.

    It seems so ridiculous to me that 90% of comments are anger based. Why would you just automatically assume that just because a product supports HomeKit, that it would also have HKSV? The majority of video doorbells that support HomeKit do not support HKSV. The only ones I can think of are the Logitech Circle View, Belkin Wemo, Aqara G4, and Robin ProLine which costs 1,500 Euros. He never said that this doorbell supported HKSV. I also only use HomeKit and would like a doorbell option that includes HKSV. I bought the Logitech Circle View when it first came out and it didn't take long for the doorbell to be very frequently unavailable because of overheating issues, until it stopped working altogether. The Belkin Wemo has an extreme fisheye lens that I find totally unacceptable. The Aqara is ugly in my opinion and has that stupid chime box that I don't need. And the Robin ProLine is outrageously expensive. So I guess I can buy this one now or wait for I don't know how many more years until we get a good HKSV solution. It used to be that you couldn't find any video doorbell for less than $10/month. Now it's half that so it doesn't seem too horrible to me. Also, I'm thinking about getting this doorbell and not subscribing to the service. I live in a pretty safe neighborhood, so I'm not sure that I need recordings. Maybe just having a live feed would be enough for my situation. Plus, when someone comes to the door, it will pop up on both the Apple TV and the thermostat.

    HomePods with scenes is a mess. It makes the scenes fail more than they already do. Plus, there is a limit on scenes. I’ve used all of mine on trivial things like the lights off for a room and now I can’t set scenes I want for hosting or holiday events. I mostly just use shortcuts now without scenes because it fails less. Apple needs to give HomeKit and shortcut some real attention.

    I’d really recommend changing your opinion of Orbi 6e mesh, I have 2 satellites and went through 2 routers, still facing device dropped connections despite having great signal. The company refuses to actually help me and changes their facts constantly depending who you talk to there. Switching to tp-link deco before I plunge into unifi, but I think unifi is the best choice with no subscriptions and full functionality.

    Great and informative video. I am using Unifi Protect cameras and NVR in my environment. Apple Homekit recordings come handy for me as Unifi haven't come up with a way to store videos in the cloud automatically (especially the ones motion triggerred). I use HomeBridge and a Unifi plugin to have my cameras stream on my Homekit setup (currently testing scrypted) and for me this is only a backup solution in the event of a break in where my NVR would be stolen or a fire where I would lose my videos... This way, I would have a copy of the videos accessible in the cloud from homekit. I understand that some triggers can be missed but in my case, this is not too concerning as all my videos are recorded on my Unifi NVR. I can deal with that and it provides me with a great and easy solution for cloud storage.

    Heads up, if you hardwire ethernet to your Apple TV, it will always default to that as the main hub. HomeKit has an algorithm that picks the best hub based on things like speed of connection, reliability of connection, and placement with accessories. That being said, if you hardwire your Apple TV, it will always be the fastest and most reliable connection and default to that. Hope this helps!

  • @Chenny0

    Of course they would consider this. UWB’s magic is its ability to precisely identify the devices position. If the phone is stationary then the lock would not unlock if the phone is approaching the door from the outside then unlock.

    Ubiquiti doesn’t seem to have ANYTHING available for WiFi7. I’d like to go ahead and get 7 now, even though Apple products don’t yet support 802.11be. What about the consumer offering in the Amplify Alien which Apple sells (WiFi 6e)? I really need to invest in a mesh system, to take advantage of wireless backhaul. Even in an apartment, my Wifi 5 signal sucks - my fiber gateway / router is limited to a master closet, near an outside wall. Living room where my desk is? 200 Mbps. Add VPN for work, and I’m at 11 (limit is due to work routing).

    Given that Apple AI and Siri 2.0 is on the way in the next few weeks, I'm betting this September we will see some next gen updates to Apple TV and full size Homepods. Given that the current gen HP's run on an S7 chip and the ATV runs on an A15 bionic and neither are powerful enough to run Siri 2.0, I'll bet there will be upgrades to both with A17 bionics in them. If you are thinking of buying either (or both) you might want to wait and see? Just a thought.

    Apologies if this is an obvious or stupid question, but what’s the big difference between the Eve Room and the Eve Weather? The weather seems to be so much cheaper and I’m assuming it has the same great sensors. Yes I understand they’re marketed differently but couldn’t one just use the weather if all they wanted was the temperature and humidity of a room?

    Many of the smart devices are 2.4ghz wifi only. I use a Google nest router and to my knowledge I can’t turn it down to 2.4ghz to set up any devices that require that. Any idea what I can do as a work around?

  • @Chenny0
    @Chenny08 күн бұрын

    You will need to have a separate router or you can use hotspot on your phone (make sure to turn on enhanced comparability). Set the name and password to be same as your nest router. Then turn off your other router or hotspot and the device will connect to the nest router.

  • @danm4320

    After watching another KZreadr I purchased the Aqara U200 and I've spent over 9 hours trying to connect it to Apple Home. I asked the KZreadr how to do this and he removed my question, clearly he is only interested in earning commission and free product from Aqara. Long story short our Apple TV hub default user is my husband so there is unfortunately no way for me to connect the Aqara U200 to Apple Home. Lock companies need to realize they must have multiple admins, we all have an expiration date and only permitting one admin is making life complication for those who pass on and leave family members who have to deal with unlocking a home and setting up a new admin. Having two admins solves this problem. Long story short Aqara has terrible customer support - I tried using their app and could not calibrate the lock, troubleshooting resetting and resetting nothing work the calibration always failed. So disheartened that Shane removed my questions from his comments - he lost a sub and you've gained one, you are clearly more upfront with your reviews and sincerely interested in helping your viewers. What matter over thread lock do you recommend that has finger print and home key?

    According to Apple you can use the HomePod minis as rear channels. I specifically asked about 2 HomePods in front and 2 minis in the rear for surrounds sound and was told it can be done easily

  • @Martyntd5
    @Martyntd58 күн бұрын

    No it's just 2 pairs of the same stereo, not quad. Imagine a sound that starts front left, then moves front right, then rear right, then rear left. It would sound like you are being circled. All apple can do at the moment, is left to right or right to left ...stereo. Even with 4 speakers, it's still stereo. I know that the Homepod wizzardry can compensate to some extent, but real quad channel should only really be a software update. Given the cost of 4x homepods is up in home theatre country, apple should really do this.
