If I had one trick for you that could improve your velocity, your balance, your accuracy, and your completion percentage. Would you use it?
Hey everybody, welcome to elite athletes TV. I'm Mike Pawlawski, former 11 year pro quarterback, quarterbacks coach here at elite athletes TV. I am a radio analyst for college football. And I also coach high school football. And so I get to coach high school quarterbacks all the time. And there's a trend going around in high school football with quarterbacks right now that as a coach, you need to correct if you're using it. So I want to tell you about that here today.
The thing that I am seeing with quarterbacks and it's become a trend over the last five years or so is dudes stepping in the bucket as they throw, they are taking that front foot and swing it out to the side. And for me, I haven't talked to any coach that is coaching this but I know several quarterbacks or quarterback coaches around the country are coaching this, it looks like they are trying to get real Hip turn into their throw and really "Flip" those hips. But it's taking that front foot stepping in the bucket and really trying to flip the hips.
So let's get into first, how does that affect your passing? Well, the key to effective efficient passing has to do with harnessing force creating, developing and harnessing force both those things have to come into play. If you are going to be a good passer of the football. The main driver of force in a quarterbacks Throw comes from your glute. If you are a quarterback and you are trying to develop force ground force, it is from your glute, the rear glute pushing off of the turf in the back. And then you are harnessing that force with your front foot as you plant it into the ground.
I have developed a quarterback course called QB secrets, pure passing mechanics.

But that is the main developer in force in quarterbacks throwing motions in pitchers throwing motions. When a boxer throws a punch, it comes from your glute, it comes from your legs, and then travels as you hit that front step you get ground reaction force, and then it comes up your body and then transfers into your arm. Is rotational force a part of it Yes, rotational force is a part of it. But it's not the main force creator. In throwing a football, you can tell if you ever do drills where you throw without using your legs, how much force you literally create by using your legs, how much easier it is to throw that football. And so as we step outside of our body frame with that front foot, getting back to what quarterbacks are doing around the country, you are literally taking away from the amount of force that you can harness, you need what's called a strong front side. And all of this is in my course that you can check out. But you need to be able to harness ground force with a strong front side. You hear it all the time, when people are talking about quarterback play about pitchers about batting, all these things where you have to harness that force. That strong front side, when you put it in the ground is what brings that ground force back up to you and allows your body then to rotate around that foot. If you step to the side, and you don't land with your full cleats in the ground, then you are not able to return that ground force in the same manner that you could if you develop that strong front side by stepping at your target.
If you step in the bucket, you can't develop a strong front side so you lose velocity on your ball you lose accuracy because if your arm is coming on a linear path, you just have to figure out up and down when to release the ball. If it's coming on a rotational path, now you have to figure out up and down, and when in that path, I am right at my target and so it makes it harder to be accurate.
This one thing will increase your accuracy will improve your arm strength, will put more velocity on the football and will help you complete more passes. You should add it to your quarterback training so that you can get better and be better at the position.
