If you want to hear how the band sounds these days check out their Sacrimony (Official Live Video) with Alissa White-Gluz and Elize Ryd. its FANTASTIC. Tommy Karevik is a great vocalist too

I also highly recommend you check out the bend Sonata Arctica, specifically their song "Everything Fades to Grey". It's a song with amazing storytelling and really shows off his vocals.

Roy Khan is IMO one of the best 5 metal singers EVER. I don't know a single other singer who can transmit emotions as well as he can. Their whole album Karma (which this song is of) is an absolute musical masterclass in every way. Every song is unique and a 10/10. The title track Karma was even used by the japanese synchron swimming team during the olympics. I highly recommend you listen to the full album. He sings even better on record.

This was one of my favorite live video performances ever for many long years. Surpassed by.... well, there's the modern Kamelot with Tommy Karevik doing the extended live version of 'Forever'. I did get to see Kamelot live in October 2019, after being a fan since 2002, and I recently bought tickets to see them again this coming May. I sang myself hoarse the first time I saw them.

Kamelot were formed in Tampa, Florida in the 80's by Thomas Youngblood (guitar) who is the only original member... The band was signed to European label Noise Records and debuted in 1995 w/ 'Eternity' feat. Mark Vanderbilt (vocals)... followed by 2nd album 'Dominion' in 1997. Roy Khan (vocals) from Norway joined Kamelot in 1998 and recorded 3rd album 'Siege perilous' ... Khan helped Kamelot develop creatively from a power metal band into a more symphonic metal band w/ the albums 'The fourth legacy' (1999)... 'Karma' (2001)... 'Epica' (2003)... and 'The Black Halo' (2005)... I believe this concert footage was shot on the 'Black halo' tour in Oslo, Norway in 2006 for the concert video/ live CD "One cold winter's night"... w/ Khan (vocals), Youngblood (guitar), Glenn Barry (bass), Casey Grillo (drums) and Oliver Palotai (keyboards) ... (Oliver Palotai eventually married Epica vocalist Simone Simons) Kamelot had built a strong fanbase in Europe by that point and turned their focus on N. America in 2007 w/ the 'Ghost Opera' album and tour... In 2009, Sean Tibbetts (bass) replaced longtime bassist Glenn Barry... the band released 'The poetry and the poisoned' (2010) which charted in the USA for the first time at #74... However, it was the last album to feature vocalist Roy Khan, who left the band in 2010 and Rhapsody vocalist Fabio Leone filled in for Kamelot's 2011 tour. Roy Khan returned to music in 2018 w/ a new band Conception. In 2012, Kamelot announced Tommy Karevik (vocals) from Sweden had joined the band and released the album 'Silverthorn'... Kamelot toured w/ Nightwish that year and returned w/ 'Haven' in 2015, touring extensively worldwide... longtime drummer Casey Grillo left the band by 2017. Kamelot released 'The shadow theory' (2018) w/ Alex Landenburg (drums) and subsequent live CD/DVD 'I am the empire - Live from the 013' in 2020 (filmed in 2018)... Kamelot's latest album was 'The Awakening' in 2023. More Kamelot songs to check out: 'The Haunting' (feat. Simone Simons)... 'March of Mephisto' ... 'Rule the world' ... 'Liar liar' (feat. Alissa White-Gluz)... 'Veil of Elysium'🔥🔥🤘🤘

Part 2 was the most difficult for my ears to digest the first time. But it became my fav part pretty fast. It really does get better with each play. Spot on about sing acting. Roy is so animated. He'd be amazing as a voice actor in animation. Suggestions for you if you want some other live examples: Epilogue is a short one but he is clear to hear in it. Moonlight is a fun jam. He is now with Conception: Listen to Silent Crying 2.0 And Roll the Fire 2.0 live in Athens. Special mention to their song Feather Moves.

There have been a number of powerhouse, brilliant, unique vocalists on the Rock and Metal scene, some of those voices are instantly recognizable as no one else but themselves... and yet probably none so exquisite, at least today, as Roy Khan. His silky smooth tones mixed with leathery power, insane range and panther-like rasps all as the role requires are just him, in his own league. The current singer for KAMELOT, the Swede Tommy Karevik is extremely versatile (you ought to get acquainted with his original group, SEVENTH WONDER - try "Tiara's Song", for example), he is in control and actually a pot of gold for the band, for he can sound, in the right places, almost as the perfect replica of Roy. Except that makes us long for Roy's suave darkness even more. You are right about Roy Khan being a true singer-actor, inhabiting any of his songs. In this, I could compare him to Freddie Mercury, or perhaps even Maria Callas. Heck, Roy even hurt his vocal folds like Callas (and others who used to give themselves and go too hard) did before. He took an almost 10 year sabbatical from singing to recover, and just recently has thankfully returned to the thing that he loves - singing with his youth band, CONCEPTION, and accepting guest appearances. Ha had been missed! The song trilogy in question, "Elizabeth", is one of the pinnacles in KAMELOT's art. I get increasingly more chills perceiving how it goes from melodic balladry and triumphant notes to ever greater level of intensity, following a wretched mind of the infamous countess Elizabeth Batory towards damnation. Good choice taking it in with lyrics! The concert during which this was recorded, "One Cold Winter's Night" in Oslo, 2006, stands as one of the best overall collective achievements in the field of Live show recordings this side of full opera / theater productions. :) (To rival it, perhaps "Retrospect 10th Anniversary" show from EPICA, if you have not checked that out, featuring full orchestra and choir - well, you should. Moreso that EPICA and KAMELOT are musical kin in more than one way. The theatrical intensity is sure a connecting factor!) Please return to KAMELOT more often! Of the current show, I would heartily recommend experiencing songs like "Center of the Universe", "The Haunting" (feat. Simone Simons), "Abandoned", or "Forever" - it will be fun to see you recognize the homage to Roy Khan's certain compatriot who we know from the Classics. :)))

As much as I love this epic power metal trilogy, it still only represents the lesser of tracks on one of the greatest power metal albums of all time. Forever, Wings of Despair, The Spell, Don't You Cry (along with the alternate version Roy sung in French), Karma (a personal all-time favorite), The Light I Shine On You, Temples of Gold (a secret treasure of mine), and Across the Highlands all rival, if not best the Elizabeth Trilogy, in my personal opinion. This is one of those albums that truly deserves a full listen/review.
