Young Guns (1988) - Are You Really Gonna Kill Billy the Kid?
Ойын-сауық
In a tense and suspenseful scene from the Western classic Young Guns, Billy the Kid, portrayed by Emilio Estevez, and his loyal companions find themselves eavesdropping on a conversation that takes a dangerous turn. As they listen in, they hear a man brazenly discussing his plans to kill the notorious outlaw Billy the Kid. Intrigued and ever-fearless, Billy decides to confront the man directly, engaging him in a game of cat-and-mouse as he casually questions him about his murderous intentions. The unsuspecting man, unaware that he is face-to-face with the very legend he seeks to kill, unwittingly reveals his plans to Billy, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown.

Young Guns is a fictionalized account of the early years of Billy the Kid and his involvement in the Lincoln County War of 1878. The film follows Billy, a young gunslinger taken under the wing of rancher John Tunstall, played by Terence Stamp. When Tunstall is murdered by corrupt lawmen and business rivals, Billy and his fellow ranch hands, known as the "Regulators," seek justice and revenge. Among the Regulators are Doc Scurlock (Kiefer Sutherland), Jose Chavez y Chavez (Lou Diamond Phillips), and Dick Brewer (Charlie Sheen), each with their own unique skills and personalities. As the conflict escalates and the body count rises, Billy and his friends find themselves on the run from the law and facing increasing danger at every turn. With its mix of historical figures and creative license, Young Guns is a thrilling and action-packed Western that explores the legend of Billy the Kid and the bonds of friendship and loyalty in the face of adversity.

Good Hollywood representation maybe. Henry McCarty was an ugly ass man with zero education. What the movie got right was, McCarty was short at 5'-7" and he wasn't dominant left-handed. Notice Emilio shot the dude with his right hand. Estevez was 26yrs old when this movie was made, McCarty was maybe 19-20 when he killed his 5th out of 8 men total. McCarty was dead by age 21. Fortunately Estevez looked young for his age.

He did not because as good as it was, it was not accurate and that is one of the things that is judged. Young Guns is just using the historical characters for a very fictional take on history. @chewy1568

@@chewy1568 There is also next to no writing about Maximus Decimus Meridius, he is merely mentioned as having been a senator and general thus making any portrayal of him open to interpretation. Do you know why no one has Henry Fonda at the top of their list for best portrayal of Abraham Lincoln? Because, he was horrible . Did not look, act or sound like descriptions of him. Daniel-Day Lewis won best actor for it, Sam Waterson a Tony and Walter Huston's performance from 1930 is still referred to for its historical accuracy and performance...for the very reason of my point. You win awards based on many merits and accuracy is important if anything is known about the character. You can put on a great performance like in Young Guns, but more people are going to flock to a more accurate story and performance and this is why the Billy The Kid series has 2 awards (lead performance and cinematography) and 6 nominations and is getting a 3rd season while Young Guns only won a...western heritage award...and who has ever even heard of that? The point is, there is good and then there is good for more reasons. Young Guns was a good film...Tombstone was a GREAT film because of its historical accuracy and accurate performances. Its OK. You can accept this. No one is saying it was a bad performance...jesus, the triggering is real.

One of my top ten and in my top 5. One of the greatest westerns ever!
"ah, billy we was just hacking you." "Why did you kill that guy in town?" BTK "He was hacking me."
Shout out to the guy on the banjo 🪕 killin it 👍🏼
At 2:43 Kiefer is holding his cigarette in a modern, effete and actorly way, not how an Old Western gunslinger like Scurlock would smoke.
I watch these Young Guns movies over and over again. Emilio is magnificient as Billy❤
He keeps whistlin' 😂
Dammit that scene never gets old👍🏼
What a great scene!
I grew up in Southern NM Lincoln Co where BTK ran around. This area is quite possiblly one of the most gorgeous places in USA - the Bonito Valley. We love these movies and spent our childhood walkin the places where BTK rode
Anyone know the banjo song playin in the background

I wonder if it would work better if the music was replaced with something, less electronica and no sax. It sounds like the climax of a "Police Academy" movie.

A lot of stuff from that era is way better in your memories. I tried to revisit an old show I loved, and it was horrible. So now I lock away those old memories into a happy place and leave them there. I won't watch these movies again.

Apparently he did, or at least he knew he was a young fellow who looked decent enough for the ladies. I think it came down to him thinking he'd never actually have an encounter with Billy, and when the time came he couldn't believe it was him.

Nothing better than a mixture of eighties and westerns
I really enjoyed this movie. Billy the Kid really was a person who you wouldn’t know what to expect he’d do. He enjoyed the Wild West to its fullest and really wasn’t a ruthless killer just shot down those who challenged him or stood in his way. He also had a run in with another famous Old West gunslinger and did that gun flip move he showed in this scene when pretending to surrender. A real character he was
Can't remember exactly when this movie came out but I was either in my late teens or early twenties. It was just really good fun and the ideal movie to watch with a group of... pals.

@@jplonsdale7242 You'd be wrong. You should read history, and a LOT of newspapers, before saying you do or don't think anything. Most of these scenes are taken straight out of history books and newspapers, along with testimony from those who knew Billy. Except for the lefthanded part. Those who knew him always said he was righthanded, but "experts" looked at a reversed negative, and didn't believe them. Now we know better.

My two favorite westerns, Young Guns 1 and Young Guns 2.
The acting actually and cinematography stand the test of time but a eight on once that synthesizer kicks in and brings your right day into 1984

Agreed, the best western ever. If you haven't seen...... A Fist Full of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More. The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. Once Upon a Time in the West. Angel and the Bad man. El Dorado. The Searchers. The Sons of Katie Elder. The Comancheros. McClintock. The Undefeated. True Grit. The Unforgiven. Hang Em High. High Plains Drifter. Pale Rider. The Man Who Killed Liberty Valance. The Big Country. Quigly Down Under. And maybe another 200 westerns. Seriously, Young Guns was entertaining but not even close to being a great western.

Billy was the son of immigrants from Ireland. He spoke fluent Irish as well. Not many realise that his name wasn't William Bonnie but Henry McCarthy. The original translation of McCarthy or Mac Càrthaigh (similar pronunciation) means the son of a "Loving" or caring person. But there wasn't much altruism in Billy The Kid's character.
