If you ever do another one of these, here’s a joke you can only do in asdfmovie. It is comprised of one skit across two scenes. Scene one: There is a normal “I like trains” sketch where he shows up in a scene where you really don’t want people to get hurt, except for the fact that he doesn’t actually say anything, and the audience is left thinking that the joke is a simple “lack of followup” joke. The scene ends, but our skit does not. Scene two: Scene two begins with a normal setup for a joke before the punchline is interupted by the distant sounds of a train. No train is shown, but the joke is clear. It follows up on the previous scene in a way that A. Makes the lack of punchline in the first scene now be revealed to be a setup for the second scene, B. Allows for humor in the unexpected, and C. Uses genocide as a punchline, which is funny

You could add a whole nother layer of brick joke two it by adding a third scene at the end of the video where we cut back to the first skit and the train has narrowly missed whatever it was.

The 'That's cut!' joke is amazing, because of the one bit he forgot to read out - 'There is applause'. So the rest of the hairdresser's is filled with guests already turned around in their little swivelly chairs, and hairdressers standing with scissors and straightening-irons in their hands, and then they all clap. That's great!

The fact that Tom himself had to clarify that skits MUST end in violence is really funny to me

I think a lot of people miss a lot of the point of those jokes though. They subvert expectations. A lot of the literal jokes weren't really subverting expectations... It was just them knowing the fact that it is literally what the character said. The nothing can stop me now joke is a literal joke but it subverts your expectations by having it LITERALLY be nothing, not a guy named Nothing or anything like that. Just the literal void. That's what makes it funny.

@@GaomonAndLucario I think the fact that joke works is because it's not so blatantly obvious as others. For example, "You are what you eat" is a phrase that you don't really hear anywhere unless someone is trying to make a similar joke. So as soon as we heard the phrase, we know what the joke's gonna be and automatically becomes unfunny. On the other hand, "Nothing can stop me" is such a common phrase in media that we don't instantly think of the literal meaning of it. As Tom mentioned, this causes you to figure out the joke after the skit has passed. Your explanation makes it seem as is both punchlines are inherently different when they aren't. Both are about literally displaying what was said. Having it literally be nothing is the same as having the person literally become what they eat. The REAL difference is the setup of the joke. One setup immediately gives away the joke while the other one isn't as obvious. That's where the subversion of expectations really resides.

Bal man has become a randomly occuring joke with my friends now. sometimes it'll be completely silent and someone will just go "look a ball" and then they receive a chorus of "BAL MAN!!!" back to them

I like that I can literally never tell when he likes or hates a joke till he verbalizes it.

Funny pattern I noticed : the jokes Tom didn’t like were written like jokes he had made in other videos !

Not sure if Tom intentionally or unintentionally glossed over the “look what CAME in the mail” joke

Tbf, they sponsored THAT video as well, so I'd say they were very ok with working with him even after seeing it. And also, idk how many videos are left on that deal, but i remember he said it was a determinate amount so maybe they're just waiting for it to end and they'll think about if it's working for them after that.

@@Summergch I'm pretty sure the determinate amount was that the last video they were supposed to sponsor by the contract is the "please fire me" video, and they did sponsor it, and they continue sponsoring all the other videos, and hey, I'm not complaining. We get great skits from those ads!

I like how LITERAL GOD in asdf movie comes down to shoot a guy just because a skit had to end in violence

I think the reason he’s so upset by them is that there are so many people who tell him how bad the jokes are but when given the chance to write better ones they mostly end up being the same thing that was originally criticized.
