You Won't Regret Buying This Watch | Seiko 5 Field GMT

Seiko follows up the Seiko 5 sports diver style GMT from last year with a field version of the same recipe. It's very good, but is it better than last year's SSK001 ?

I got mine about two weeks ago ( Stainless steel, black dial). I love this watch. The bracelet is surprisingly good. I did replace the clasp for a premium one. I have the same complaints as the review, but I got it for just over 300.00. For what I paid, I am very happy with it. It's a looker.👍🏼

Oh man, I'm obsessed with this watch in the stainless steel version. This will be my first Seiko. I'm just waiting for the hype and price to drop. I can even forgive Seiko for not adding sapphire in this price range. It's just such a great watch to look at it.

This Field GMT needs a nickname. It's so good. The SKX GMT is great looking, but inherited all the things about the SKX that kept me from loving it both in photos and on my wrist all day. Field MGT prices are already dropping towards $300 online, and in that range it's a killer choice. I think I'm going to be recommending this to a lot of people

So I'm 40, I started getting into watches a year ago, before that I knew really nothing about watches, however my first watch ever was a Timex ironman triathlon, then in 97' I got the Pepsi skx for Chistmas which I wound up wearing only a handful of times and it's been in the box since, fast-forward a year later and imagine my surprise when I heard that these two watches were rather iconic. I've yet to see a first year Pepsi skx in the pristine condition as mine is!

I can’t decide which one to buy! I’d probably get that blacked out version as well, and put it on a black silicone strap. I recently got the newer silver with gold bezel two tone dive gmt version, and can’t take it off. It looks classy as heck on the wrist somehow. It’s my first visibly two tone watch and it just works. I have a titanium grand seiko with a black dial and gold hands and markers, and thought it looks really nice, so I’d give the two tone diver gmt a try, and it’s grabbed me. I never dreamed I’d like it as much as I do, and it would look as nice as it does in person. Great video!

This one looks good from here (and the stainless version, even better to my eyes), but I'm good with the SSK 003 I bought last May, and on my (slightly) larger 7" wrist, doesn't live all-too-large. I also agree your Zero-Pass strap is a must-have in general, but for this watch in particular.

For it's size I wish they had made the lug to lug shorter because I love the dial and how they blacked out the stem on the GMT hand. Also, if we're talking about true NATO strap designs, they typically employ one piece buckles. The "premium" buckles on more expensive signature NATOs are often larger and use spring bars.

The buckle of NATO straps isn’t a “spring bar”, it’s solid. And with the prong of the buckle, and the surrounding strap material, the buckle is stronger and less likely to fail than a spring bar, which has more direct pressure applied to it at all times, given the angle of wear. So, you can try to *justify* your strap, but it’s still more likely to fail than a NATO…..

I don’t necessarily agree with you about 5kx diver, or really diver style watch. It was downgraded in the sense that it has less water resistance, a push pull crown, still no sapphire (for better or worse but that’s really what most enthusiasts want, and is now common at that price point), no longer iso, stamped clasp, etc. Atheistically I do like the new 5kx better, but from an enthusiast spec focused point of view, I think it was a step in the wrong direction……all that said, the watch in your review looks awesome.

They do love the fidget spinner jumping hour hand though. This Seiko has a fixed bezel. It’s disappointing, but understandable. It’s more a dual-timer than anything else, which is at least somewhat useful for people who do not use gmts as gmts.

The "5KX" never felt a true successor to the SKX, but the GMT version does make sense despite the smaller water resistance. This field GMT is also a great development. It's very good that Seiko kept the design language on the hands as it did with the Alpinist GMT, not merely picking a triangle with a stick for both. That said, i believe that this 24-hour bezel should be exact like that but rotating.

It's a bit of joke. The hands look cheap Cheap mineral crystal. The strap is awful. The display back is not needed on a plain industrial movement. San Martin do it far better

If i can by that exact same movement in a pagani for $140 aud there's absolutely no good reason to f'ing pay $540 for shitbox seiko. Let me guess it doesn't even have sapphire crystal. Absolute rubbish.

Definitely make a good argument. I think it’s totally fair if you want to have a watch collection that isn’t worth excessive amounts but you can have a good variety of watches for various occasions.

Imagine buying a pagani 😅 there’s always these sheeps crying about the “build quality”, the “value for money”,… Let’s be completely honest here, you’re never buying pagani because it’s a pagani, you’re buying the best fake, the closest thing to your dream watch that you could afford with your ant sized budget AND you have to come up with something to justify your purchase. What a joke.

No one forces you to buy it instead of a cheap Chinese knock off brand with dubious quality. Also crying about prices of watches in the budget class is atleast free.
