You won’t believe what Tom has done to this E-Type…

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

So I had a message that Zak was over at Tom Barclay Racing playing cars so i shot over there straight after work, and im glad I did as I managed to capture them tuning the all new fuel injection system on this gorgeous example of a JAguar E-Type! We also had a good blast round the block in it and its safe to say im in love with this car. The handling matches the looks and now it has modern fuel injection on a standalone management installed by Tom, with the help from Zak. So it legit drives like a Bentley and the best part is you cant tell whats been done unless you really look! This has to be the best stealth fuel injection setup out there ?!?

    Now that's what I call one beautiful car, and the sound is orgasmic! Just to put things in perspective a flat front Mk.2 Escort circuit car I built for Russell Clark back in the early 90's fitted with a very hot 2.4 litre Pinto engine on 50 DCOE Webers and Zytech ignition, made 215 bhp at the wheels @ 7.2K rpm (245 flywheel) with very good torque and perfect throttle response with a 8.4K rev limit. The car weighed in at 810Kg wet and used a 4 speed gearbox, as the 4 speeder suited the torquey engine so well. Russel was never beaten in that car, (in it's class), the engine was completely reliable and no one even got close to him on the track. Russ racked up dozens of wins and 4 overall championships in 1990's Modprods before HTR moved on to developing the CVH engine in front wheel drive Fords, I test drove the Escort on a number of occasions on the road and the track and I found the acceleration and top speed to be quite incredible for a Pinto Escort, on race gearing the car would hit (tested at Bruntingthorpe by Fast Car Magazine) a true 140mph in around 17 seconds from a standing start and with 60mph coming up in around 4.5 seconds, these figures were achieved on road tyres and tested by FCM's 5th wheel calibration/testing setup they used to test the performance of cars for the magazine.. One time I was down at Tim Swadkins place, I think in 1998 having an engine dynoed and there was a lightweight E Type racer in the workshop (3.8L on triple SU's), there was also someone with a Cossy that had been chipped to give around 350 hp, well there was some discussion going on between the owners about the performance of the two cars and they decided to take the cars out on the road to see which one had the biggest cock, well the E Type actually proved faster, so happy days there then (cos I fukkin love an E Type!) Nice. I was having a rally car mapped by men in a shed in North Wales back in 2011, and they had an Aston Martin DB6 (I think) in which they had converted the carbs into throttle bodies and EFI. It all looked stock, which was nice.

    Unnoticed by most is the upgraded 5 speed gearbox. The original and correct Moss gearbox dated back to the 1940’s and didn’t have syncromesh in first gear. The syncromesh in the top few gears was very weak by modern standards, requiring a deft touch and proper timing. A quick downshift required proper rev matching and considerable experience and mechanical sympathy by the driver. I was able to execute silent downshifts into first gear while moving in autocross racing, but the risk of chipping the straight cut gear tooth with a bungled downshift was omnipresent and hardly worth the risk. Jaguar designed their own improved full syncro 4 speed box and introduced it in 1965 with the Series 2 4.2 liter XKE. This update was augmented by a better and stronger clutch. Various rear end gearsets were offerred: 3.07-3.70, all with factory limited slip differentials. The cars with the lowest numerical gearsets were the only ones capable of 145-150 mph top speeds in stock form. The highest numerical gearsets gave the lowest quarter mile times. Later cars became slower as they gained weight and became less aerodynamic. Federal safety and emission regulations beginning in 1968 further reduced performance and forced accelerated development of the V12 powered E Types. These were necessarily much larger and heavier cars and moved the E Type from sports car to GT car. The fastest E Type in stock form was the early Series 1 built from 1961 to 1964 with the 3.8 liter engine. The 3.8 revved out better and higher than the 4.2 liter that replaced it.

  • @mikefpe

    It’s literally just the carb butterfly that is being used from the SU. The inlet manifold has injectors mounted on the underside with a neat little fuel rail. Each inlet track has an injector.

  • @mikefpe

    @mikefpe

    4 күн бұрын

    its crisp and very responsive. far better than when it was on the carbs as the veriable ventury is not floating up and down inside. its just the original butterflies modulating the airflow. and the ECU/injectors now provides the perfect fueling mixture throughout the rev range and throttle position.

    Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!!!
