I live in Texas and am a Boise State fan. We know KDB well. He began his coaching career in the west, continued at Fresno State in my conference, I saw his Huskies beat Texas in the Alamo Bowl, and they beat my team pretty handily in our season opener this year. He may or may not lead Alabama to a perfect season and a natty in his first year. However, you can be sure his team will be well-coached, disciplined, and will operate with integrity.

That whole bama nation down so bad rn they thought the day of 🐐 Saban retiring wasn’t coming at least for another few years. They getting their teeth kicked in by handfuls of SEC teams. Yes I get that he can develop some talent and win games but I do think he will win 8 or even maybe 9 games his first 2 years while some Saban players are still on their roster and after that since they don’t recruit well anymore and defense gonna be average at best, it will be a very rude awakening for them if DeBoer makes this team play pac 12 football thinking it works to go 11-1 of 12-0 playing in the SEC. SEC is about elite defense for the most part.

Long time Husky fan. DeBoer is an excellent head coach. We'll see how he does in the Alabama setting - I can think of reasons he will have great success, and reasons he might fail to live up to your understandably lofty standards. Here's my caution, which you are unlikely to believe right now (just keep it in your back pocket for later): He's not really the humble, class act that he's so good at portraying. I know, I know, he says all the right things and it just feels true. But the stuff about his admiration for y'all or for Coach Saban or your traditions or for the players? That's just a role he plays. DeBoer does what he does for himself, for his own ambition and his own image. And you won't see it until you do. In the meantime, he'll probably win you a lot of games, especially if y'all let him hire Ryan Grubb as his OC. Good luck and enjoy your new coach. Just don't fall in love - he will break your heart.

Husky Fan Here -- I Come in Peace and With a Warning. Congrats on landing DeBoer. I'm heartbroken. He did so much for us in two years and promised to bring us back to the promised land. I was so excited about our future. I thought he could take us to elite status. He spoke as if he could. I know our AD stepped up and made a big offer. I don't really get why he turned it down. Maybe the allure of Bama was just too much to turn down. You have what's been the premier program in the country. Having said all of that, I regret believing him when at the first press conference he spoke of wanting to put down roots. He spoke of how much he loved this community and how he wanted to be here long term. He spoke of how he loved the players and wanted to put their needs first. Know that he will sound sincere and lie to your face. I doubt that it was all about money. I think it's about winning. That's his god. So maybe that aligns with your needs. If he delivers and stays, it probably does. But don't believe him when he says idealistic things. I'm curious to see if he'll have the nerve to trot out all the same show. If he's honest he'll say he's here to win. And you guys will then keep and reward him if he does, and fire him if he doesn't. He's truthful about embracing the past. Did exactly the same thing with us and it was real. It's not about "embracing" the traditions of the program. It's about doing what works. He's extremely pragmatic and extremely smart. The jury is out on him with regard to just one thing. Recruiting. At Alabama, he'll have all the advantages and no excuse for falling short. Washington is like the girl next door who just got spurned for the supermodel. It's disappointing but that's life. I have to be truthful in admitting I'll be rooting for him to go up in flames and rue the day he left Washington. I'm totally like a woman spurned -- which is kind of funny, even to me. But it will be what it is. I have no dislike for fellow fans. We're all ultimately the same in wanting our team to be successful. Even fans as spoiled by success as you guys. Kudos to you for that. I wish that was true of us. On a lighter note, I'll be rooting for Oregon when they play you guys. Nothing personal. It's not about Alabama but my anger toward DeBoer. He's the man who is motivating me to root for the Ducks, something I'd have thought impossible. Perhaps I'll get over my anger, regret and sadness. I'm sure I will. But I'll never again think of DeBoer as a man of honor. I'll always think of him as a man who will look totally sincere while telling lies. Alas, that's what college football has come to. Loyalty doesn't exist. It's all about money, fame and success. On this occasion, that was to your advantage. We'll see if things work out. I could see him potentially being successful at Bama and winning a lot. I could also imagine him falling short and wishing he hadn't given up a good thing in Washington, as we would have been grateful for a result that for you guys would be abject failure. If we had contended for the conference championship most years and won every now and again, it would be enough. If we occasionally made the CFP, it would be enough. If he won a single national championship, we'd have built a statue outside the stadium. He's going to need to do a lot more at Alabama to be seen as successful. He certainly has the moxy to bet on himself though. I wish he'd built us into a powerhouse rather than leaving to take over a program that already is.

I don't think he was dishonest about staying and putting down roots there. I think he was giving an opportunity that he couldn't refuse. We are the single best program in football period. We are Alabama, we have international fans, we have a culture of winning here. And honestly, we will get rid of him if he doesn't buy in completely and become truly Great. Being mad at him for leaving is like being mad at a player for going to the NFL.

I love nick saban because he always seemed like a genuine person who only wanted to make his players lives and everyone he came in contact with lives better. He wanted to give those kids the tools to be successful in life no matter if football was part of it or not. I think Deboar is in the same mold as saban, cause I find it hard to believe that saban didn’t have a hand in the hiring of his successor and I don’t believe saban would have indorsed someone who wasn’t a good person. Part of what made saban so successful was his lack of ego, if u don’t believe that just look at the fact that if he had stayed coaching he could have racked up many more personal records, but those only matter to people with egos so again I believe that that was part of why saban was ok with hiring deboar no ego. I’ll say this til the day I die as a bama fan IN SABAN WE TRUST So if nicks is good with deboar so am I.

Alabama hasnt had an extreme down season in 17 years, and our current team is a powerhouse even with the mental mistakes we made early in the season... So Coach DeBoer really doesnt have to do much since Coach Saban laid the foundation basically... Lets just give the man a chance to prove himself and see what happens when all the recruits came because of Coach Saban arent here any more when its rebuilding time... Then we will definitely know what kind of Coach we got

The next coach did not matter. Bama just had the best coach in the history of college football. That is a fact. Bama will take a step back because the odds of you going from the best ever to the next best ever, well your odds are better to be struck by lightning. What you just experienced the last 17 years was the Saban standard not the Bama standard. Bama will be good just not a title every 4 years good.

It’s worse he’s now in the stage of severe delusion. Kalen DeBoer is not Saban NOBODY for a long long time will be Nick Saban the 🐐. Matt talking about dominating lol u better hope he can win u 9 games next year lol the absolute ceiling I see with him there is 10 to 11 wins, the absolute ceiling and the following years especially when there eventually no Saban players on bama’s roster anymore. I can’t wait to see Matt’s rants this year finna be soooo epic especially when Georgia and LSU kick their teeth in good. And make no mistake about it LSU and Georgia ain’t the only 2 to beat him this year I predict 8-4 or IF lucky 9-3 bc of several saban players and leadership still there. After that 😬 idk
