You won't BELIEVE this Overgrown RESCUE | Homeowner was STUNNED
I was driving around looking for a property to clean up for free. I was looking for one that was in terrible shape, a complete disaster, and when I saw this one I thought to myself - this is perfect, my viewers will love this! I knocked on the door and nobody was home, huh. So I went back a few days later and tried again. Luckily, this time the owner was home. When I offered to cleanup her yard for free, the homeowner was surprised and a little reluctant at first. Then I promised that it would all be free and I would do an excellent job. After my reassurance, she agreed to let me go ahead. I will also be doing the back section on this one, but that will be on another episode. All up, I spent around 13 hours on the front and went to the landfill 3 times. This is part 1 of 2.

Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷♂️
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.
Q: Why do you have 2 channels that seem to be the same?
A: Quick Cuts (my original channel) has music in the background. Quick Cuts V2 is for those that like just machine noise, and it doesn't have music.

Wow, I loved this! What a transformation! I really loved what you did along the road frontage, but all of it was great. I felt for this young mother. Sounds like she has a lot on her plate, and the noise from the busy road in the distance was a killer. I'm so glad you chose this yard, not just because it is great to see the transformation, but because I think the lady will be so happy you did it. Now she and her kids can enjoy their yard. I loved the beauty and artistry of the trimmed landscape when you shaped and pruned them out. It let alot of light back into the front yard while still preserving the privacy issues.

lol, I do too sometimes - some plants look at their best after trimming, some... need to grow in a little! The lavender looked a little shocked and forlorn, but will come back happier. I think the space left by taking out the shrub too close to its neighbour by the drive can now be replanted, if wanted.
Once again, George, you have worked a miracle. The homeowner should be very pleased.

Those big bushes help with road noise also, with that busy street in the front. Not only did you make it look nice but all that dry grass is a fire hazard too! That is a deceptively large yard! How nice for all the walkers not to have to go out in the street to pass by. As usual, you did a great job!

OK, I have to say that you're good. Everytime I see something that isn't right or not perfect (a dead branch left behind, or a trimmed bush that has a couple of branches sticking out or not perfectly rounded), I notice it but just when I do, you go back and fix it. Great job.
Thank you for identifying some of the plants that needed trimmed or removal. So many times I've wondered what plant is being removed...so far I only recognize roses and nasturtium. I live in NE Ohio so many of the plants are unfamiliar to me but I really admire how many beautiful flowering trees and bushes you have in Hobart. It must be lovely to live there! Also--great job on the front!
With kids, this yard needs to be usable and with a lot of overgrowth, it will take some work to become neat. Not only are you cutting back the overgrown shrubs, but finding design lines in the process. What will be nice, this will be ready for the warmer months ahead. I like the clearing of the pedestrian sidewalk and the thoughtful clearing of the home power line from windblown limbs. (28:46, thanks for cutting back that too-long border board, I was mumbling it was guaranteed to trip someone at some point.) That was a good final tour of your work. It was possible to see the home was again accessible and neat and that the passers by had a clear walk as well. It felt much more peaceful and I hope the owners enjoy the change.
George, I love the work that you do! The yard, the trees, bushes that are trimmed or removed. All of it taken care of to look so much better. Of course that’s your goal. Another reason I like watching is that I used to have a big beautiful yard. Now I am retired. I live in apartment that surrounded by rocks.
