You Won't Believe How Many Empty Houses are Sitting Unoccupied in Melbourne! 😱💥

Back in 20 21 the census revealed a shocking one million homes were unoccupied. At a time of significant housing shortages this extra million homes would surely make a big difference. They could provide housing for some homeless ease the rental affordability crisis and get first home owners into their first home. And now we have a new survey from economic research organisation Prosper Australia looking at empty houses in Melbourne.
So in total they came up with around 97,861 dwellings that sat empty or were underused over the entire year - 5.2% of All percent of all dwellings in metropolitan Melbourne or one in 20 homes to house everybody who needs somewhere to live!

If the government sets up a system to allow foreign land banking, then you get land banking. If the government intervention is designed to keep house prices growing, then these things are government policy and should be the expected outcomes. Watch what people do not what they say.

Census revealed allegedly unaswered door knocks, not necessarily unoccupied households. It could been people not at home, refusing to open, not hearing the bell/knock or census workers simply skipping some places and claiming no answer. My house is such "unoccupied" residence, even though we were home whole day and no one showed up.

How many of these houses are worth over 4 million? Some one who is homeless isn’t able to pay the rent on it anyway? I can’t afford my rego this year, I’ll just borrow your car tomorrow Martin?

Bogus factoids without more details. So houses should be public property? Zoning is the answer. Libertarian economic rigor and sovereign citizen rules. ❤🇬🇧❤️🇺🇲❤️🇦🇺🪃🙏👌
