I don't know how old are you, but before Makelelé has been some other great CDM (here in Spain we called them "pivotes", pivots) like Redondo, Mauro Silva, Dunga, Mattäus, etc. Some of them even better than Makelelé, in my opinion.

Makelele was a beast. It was too bad Real Madrid let him go he deserved more respect. This 2006 French team with Zidane Henry and Makelele was fire too

They did all the hardwork for Zidan The only mistake the team made was leaving out Ludovic Giuly, he would have been perfect at the top alongside Henry

Only in England was it refered to as the Makelele role In Spain and Italy they played with these holding midfielders long before Makelele came to Chelsea. In England they were use to playing a standard 4-4-2 formation with two Centre midfielders who usually took turns in going forward and sitting.

not even better than kante in that role tbh. as far as dmf's go , there a a few better than him in history, for various other qualities.

He defined what a holding midfielder is! Today when we speak of defensive midfielder we say ‘a Claude Makalele’ type of player!

En términos defensivos, seguramente, junto con Mauro Silva. Pero en otros sentidos (distribución de juego, conducción de balón, pase largo, etc.) los ha habido muchísimo mejores: Busquets, Redondo, Matthäus, Vieira, Luis Suárez (el del Inter)... Makelele era un especialista en la recuperación del balón, de los mejores que ha habido, una auténtica bestia parda, pero creo que considerarlo el mejor 5 de la Historia resulta un poco excesivo.

Let's see you take a tackle to your ankle then we see if you will stand and continue to play. Most futballers do not have any other skill, if makeleles tackle connects with the foot it's a year out n a younger futballer takes over.
