I HIGHLY recommend going NP over PA. Your scope of practice is broader as an NP as you can actually open up your own clinic (within certain limits, of course) whereas a PA cannot under any circumstances work without collaboration with a physician. PA is a great profession, don't get me wrong, but if you are already a nurse then I would go for your RN at a community college then BSN, then NP. Both your BSN and MSN-NP can be completed online after you obtain your ADN.

As far as research, I know I have all the pre-req's for PA school or Med school by having a BS in Biology. I'm stuck with a low GPA and I can't do anything about that but try to apply to schools otherwise I'm looking a maybe 3-5 schools that will accept me with a low GPA. I'm worried about that but what else can I do? I guess if I don't get in this fall maybe I'll take some classes over at some other school just to bring up my GPA.

  • @AdannaThePA

I mean that's all you can do. You apply and then if You don't get in then you just ask for the schools for reasons why they may not have accepted you and then you move from there. Make the necessary changes and then reapply. Change the things you can and keep it moving.

  • @raesianNW

In my honest opinion, I don't believe being older hurts your chances at getting into any post-undergrad program. From my experience being older has actually "helped" me get the interviews and get into the programs in the past due to me having life experience compared to the other younger applicants! During my time in college (post military service) I have applied to numerous programs and actually never been denied to a program that I've chosen after getting an interview. I just utilized my previous experiences and acted myself during those interviews/essay's written and that's what I believe got it me in. Also, I've seen 30-40 PA applicants, my wife's classmate in Medical School is 52, and in my prior nursing program we had a 60 year old woman that got accepted! I had a change of heart myself and shooting for PA since I had the pre-reqs so lets hope that us older folks get in ^^. Good luck to you and your future endeavors! P.S- I'm currently 27 years old and will be 28-29 when applying and schools around me told me that my age wouldn't hurt me!

I am so scared going forward with this career path. As a young dumb 18 year old I went to college before I was ready and after my first year my grades were too low to stay. I took a year off from school and went back after a lot of soul searching and growth and have made a complete turn around and have not gotten anything other than a’s and a few b’s sprinkled in. I’m worried I may have already disqualified myself before I even found this career path. All my low grade courses were gen eds, is it still worth it to try?
