I drive a Chevy VOLT. Had the first one sold in Illinois 2011. Greatest car ever invented by man. I saved more than half of it's cost in not buying gas. It has a 300 mile range on gas, but electric only 40 miles. I drive maybe 25 miles a day, and charge at home. It's on the same tires and brakes, because of regenerative braking. That car has never been in the shop, except for the batteries wore out in the tire pressure sensors. I had the oil changed twice in 50,000 miles; because the engine hasn't come on in a year. You can buy one of these now for $10,000. There has never been a reported fire in a Chevy VOLT car or battery. That's all hype from junk EV's from China. Just like your Chinese anything: a POS.

Real Deal? 30 year US Grid Level Electrical Engineer. Grid will fine going ALL EVs. We expected about a net 10% growth due to EVs across 20 years -- which would be about 1/2% per year. That part was easy. But what is really happening is about 40% of EV owners are also getting Solar PV for their house and tend to charge at home, while also taking the entire prior house load off the grid. In Florida, we have a chain called Steak N Shake….burgers and fries. Less than 5 years ago, you would order and they’d bring the food to your table…..it was like a diner if you chose to eat inside. Now, the place is unclean….no table service…..and they installed a bar code reader on the soda fountain machine to make sure nobody is getting refills. So when you pay for your meal, they hand you a paper slip for the soda. You scan the “ticket” and the machine dispenses your drink. We stopped going there……that seems extremely petty and like they’re treating you like a thief.

Actually they strip them from one vehicle to get another one running. Look under the hoods of the old Chevys and Fords and you're likely to see an engine stripped out of a Russian or French or Italian car. Crazy-good ingenuity by whomever does those swaps, but who knows how long it'll last.

I have 3 plug in hybrids. They are great cars. I charge at home and anywhere that has a charging station. The only thing one should object to is being forced to buy them.

Dan, many years ago I worked for Marie Calenders restaurant in Alhambra. I t s decorated very nice with at home vibe and has books and all kinds of stuff around the place and to my amazement , everything was nailed down, solid!! Because people will steal everything. ugh!

I know a friend who went to Prison of LA county for 3 years on a $40k money accusation BS. So the justice system is a CROK!!!

What's maybe economical is a removal of the dead battery and replacing it with a charged battery all in 5 minutes or less. Using rollers and latches.

We own two EVs but only because we don’t drive more than 30 miles from home and live in a mild climate. Both were lease returns and good prices. There is no way I’d want one if we lived anywhere the temperature went above 90 or below 35. There were lots of bad examples this last winter of people being stranded due to cold batteries or dead batteries due to power being used to heat the car and batteries. Our cars display how electric power is used: propulsion, climate and battery conditioning. Climate control is usually less than 2% of the power and in our area I’ve never seen any power used to warm or cool the batteries. Our gas is $4.89 a gallon. If you do buy an EV make sure it normally charges at greater than 60 kW so you don’t spend too long charging.

I suspect, in the near future, the Supreme Court will forced to rule on the legality and enforceability of "mandates". Hopefully, they rule in favor of the American public.

Awhile back...the SCOTUS ruled against EPA mandates concerning power production bc it created an undue excessive burden upon the citizens. They need to look at that again...but first, somebody needs to file a class action lawsuit against the EPA. Very costly...and who can afford it?

In my "hive" town there's a charging station down the street at the Lexus dealer, and a bunch of others nearby. My reason for wanting a conventional car is I can get a good one cheap and I might not want to wait until the tech evolves in my direction, which it will. But by then I might have stopped driving altogether on account of being ancient.

Im not sure if everyone Is aware of this but no one will be available to even afford a car. Next time you drive past your local car dealership look at their inventory. It's over packed they cannot sell cars. Either they have to many cars or none because their closing. Then you look in the window at the price and laugh at how ridiculous it is.

you do not need to plug in a hybrid/plug in vehicle.. it helps with the range, but it will still operate as a gas-powered vehicle without ever plugging it in.
