You've Been Peeling Garlic Wrong This Whole Time
Ойын-сауық
Sautéing garlic with onions and fennel seeds is one of the ways to build a foundational taste for your meal. Garlic is the key to making a flavorful and fragrant-smelling meal, even though the after-effects may beg to differ.
However, peeling garlic is not everyone’s favorite thing to do. Some like smashing a clove in hopes of jolting it out of its skin, while others try and patiently use their fingers, and others still use various kitchen tools.
Peeling garlic with ease is certainly a skill, and if you haven’t mastered it, we’re here to unveil why you’ve been peeling garlic wrong this whole time.

Something nobody already knows. Your videos are like you're a couple of years late to your own party. Icing on the cake: "You didn't know this", "You never tried that", you guys sound arrogantly like we're a bunch of idiots. Well, maybe at least I am. After all, what am I still doing here gawking at your demeaning videos?

Let's be honest. Who's actually been peeling it wrong? No one.
Um...these are all just the normal ways to peel garlic. What was the wrong way? I would like to know.

houchi69 the wrong way is to peel garlic with that silicone cylinder thing.
Those are nice tips and I have to try them the next time I get some garlic to cook. Thanks for sharing it with us.
"You've Been Peeling Garlic Wrong This Whole Time"...Uh, no I haven't.
I have a feeling that an old miss matched or single mixer spindle from an old kitchen bowl mixer put on a cordless drill and plunged into a plastic jar that has a couple of garlic bulbs in it; with maybe a plastic lid from an onion dip container with a slot cut in it to allow the mixer shaft to come through while holding the garlic in the jar, would work.
I’ve used all of these methods, great information. The twist method is by far the quickest with a little help from a paring knife for stubborn shards.

I’d like to redact part of my statement. Twist method is the only way. Every other method has flaws.
I bought this cheap rubber garlic shaped garlic peeling tool, and it doesn't work. Just smash the clove with the side of your knife. Not only does it work better, it will save you frustration and a few bucks.
I have arthritis in my hands so can't use the flat of the knife to smush it, so I use my little meat pounder - the flat side - one tap and it's done. Once smushed, the paper falls right off then I use small kitchen shears to dice it small. It's just easier and quicker.
I bought 1 bulb of garlic back in 2000! I've been eating her ancestors ever since! Dont have to worry about storing when you eat it/ use it right off the plant!

Buying pre-peeled garlic should be avoided at all cost for ethical reasons. It’s something they force prisoners to do as labour in prison in China, and sometimes the shifts can last up to 14 hours.

Ch0pSticks I buy prepeeled garlic at Costco, it’s California grown and peeled.
So you're saying everything you showed on this video is wrong since that's the way everyone does it?
🤦🏽♀️ as long as you get it peeled, I don’t think it matters how you peel it.
I don't peel garlic. Ha! I win! Oh I watched anyway. I lose.
So you're telling me you are showing the wrong ways in this video, because this is how people peel garlic... What's the correct way then?
Americans...
"if you were put into a can and vigorously shaken, you'd probably shed your skin too" hey what the FUCK
Nooooo you did the first one wrong you put the blade facing towards you
Oh, no! Bruised garlic!
Yeah cuz the hand peeling is so painful
i need to peel a pile of garlic to make garlic ginger paste. didn’t relish the idea of dealing with peeling garlic. i think i’ll go with the bowls (or jar) and try the microwave approach too.

It's never wrong. It is just your opinion...
Clicked on this because I misread it as “peeing garlic”. Very disappointed.
The only time you need to peel garlic is if you absolutely need to keep the cloves whole or slice them thinly. Otherwise, just use a garlic press. Everything can go in, peel and all, and you just get the garlic pulp out of it. Or if you don't have a garlic press, just use a fine grater. The peel will stay behind. Simple.
What a great way to chop off your hand, NO chef smashes the garlic against a blade, you can smash it without the blade... some of them can squish the garlic in half just with their thumbs and index finger.

Uhm. Yes, yes they do. Chop off your hand? How could you possibly even achieve that when smashing it with the side of your knife? Like the edge of the knife isn't anywhere near any of your hands. Are you confusing chopping garlic with smash-peeling it? Because then, yeah... if you cut/chop something you could cut yourself...

U wot m8? It's literally the most common way for chefs to peel garlic. It requires no extra tools and is instantaneous.
Peeling garlic is easy. Because I know how...

Martha Stewart rocks -- but this video misses the important thing about garlic, that silly "clove" thing. The "clove" is an abstruse scientific term, rather like the Ångström unit for length (0.0000000001 meter) or the barn (10−28 m2) which you always use when you're tuning your linear accelerator. A unit so small as to be useless in daily life. The basic measure of garlic is the head because that's the smallest amount that's useful. One head per serving. Four people's meal? Four heads of garlic. How to peel it? What yer Granny does is rub off the outer dry skins, then microwave her garlic for about 45 seconds -- up to maybe 55 for very fresh juicy stuff -- in a covered or closed container. This destroys the harsh edge, leaving you with the hearty and mildly pungent flavour you really want. It pops all the skins around the individual budlets (OK, "cloves" if you insist) and makes them easy to separate out, skinned.
I just buy pickled peeled garlic at the middle eastern market. If I need a clove or two I just grab them and mince them with a garlic press. Peeling garlic sucks!!
The silicone peeler is a pain in the ass
How exactly have I been doing it wrong? I use the knife method and you mentioned it. You should really think about how you word these videos.
Wow, really? Its just peeling...
How informative, but yet, not really.
Pretty much useless.
