You Singaporean?
Комедия
A day in the life of a typical working class Singaporean named Terry reveals to us many Singaporean characteristics that we do not pay much attention to. This film shows how little things can bring out the "singaporean-ness" in us, and gives us a good reason to be proud of our country.

Just happened to stumble across this video while scanning around youtube. Caught my attention, and I find it very down to earth. Very local and humorous. Good singlish!
Funny depiction of our every day hectic lives.. I must say his Singlish accent was overwhelmingly exaggerated, even I find it weird. Hahaha

Hahahas totally agree.
Studying overseas as a Malaysian, and watching videos like these still gives me a sense of home, even though it's about Singapore, the accent, and the usage of this language just sounds so familiar to me.

The accent sounds like me using my Cantonese voice to speak English.
I have been watching this at least once a year since 2009, and laughing every time. Please do NOT delete this forever.
Put a smile on my face even 15 years later this video is made, I love the way this country has made its position at world stage, proud to be part of the nation.

I enjoyed this video very much!! Provided me with much needed humour!!
This video is absolutely fantastic. You make me want to go to Singapore. You, Singaporeans, seem to be very pleasant people.
14 years ago? Damn... god damn I remember KZread back then... just imagine someone seeing a video labeled 154 years ago in the future.
Your clip is so funny. I love it!! Great Job!
I love this video. I use it in my lessons in Japan when I am teaching about Global English and World Englishes. Thank you for your video, I'm using it to promote Singlish!

A lecturer of mine (in Sydney, Australia) used this too as part of his Global Englishes unit.
Please do more of such videos......... you have great potentials......
Great work, you really showed Singapore life. Also made me miss Singapore. I love how you used Singaporean slang words, SBS lol!
This brings back memories of the 2000s

This is a great video, the 'down to earth' singaporean representation was the icing on the cake... imho.
I use that line often when i get talking to people in the train or bus and we start chatting. Nowadays so many foreigners here.
Nostalgic as hell. I'm 52. I remember those times well.
This video has so much better graphical quality than most of the video now.
Yeah..great video!!
I am Egyptian and I love my Singaporean friends. They were so kind and generous and we had some great times.
I love the part when he states that his english is good, because he uses the term "packed like sardines." That's tottaly something I would do!
Wholesome video
my favourite accent, so funny and friendly
i heart singapore too! i lived there since i was 5 years old, and now its my hometown to me. im back in japan right now but someday when i grow up, i will go back to singaporeeeeee

Enjoyed video. Like the positive ending. I find shop assistant isn't as friendly these days but a few courteous and friendly ones always make my day. Will always like to patronise such ones. STAYIN' ALIVE
Awesome stuff
the discount part so true, you can see it firsthand at wet markets
I used to live in Singapore and now established my family in Ca. Sounds to you that due to your special background, Singapore military will put you special units that will take advantage of your specialty, Singaporean are very nice people in general, I am sure you will do well there. Take this as an once in a life time experience, really, it WILL broaden your life.
I live in the States but I was born in Singapore. I like your video. I miss Singapore alot. Someday I have to go back.
if without transcripts, I won't get a word this man talks
WOW! very well done! I enjoyed it!! :D:D
Pretty decently done video, I wonder what the 3 producers are doing now for work? I only had a shot in film/media because I left Singapore.
nice video !! i like it

And it's 13 years. Wow
This Video is so funny...good job
Haha I love this, I like how you guys mix it with Malay lol True Singaporean indeed. Greetings from Brunei ;)
@slimrxshady Since "contrived" is an adjective and "very" is an adverb, and the rules of English syntax allows an adverb to be in front of an adjective to allow the mean of the adjective to be enhance, I don't see why I can't put "very" and "contrived" together. Does that answer ur question? Anyway, to the producers of this video, I would really love to know what is the ideology behind this video, and what was it meant for? For grading? If so which module is that?
i stopped complaining after i got stuck at a bus stop somewhere in southeast asia waiting for the bus for close to two hours. came back to sg knowing that im blessed.
Nice one, lah!
I went to SG last week. Hope I can work there soon.
Good education video
realise how the way he talk changes at the end
and still relevant till to this day! 😁 i ❤️🇸🇬
@shadowpal2 It is to mean that whenever some customers buy something from a shop, like that very-expensive toy,or more commonly things like Cameras and things that cost hundreds of dollars or above, they tend to ask if the shop can reduce the price for them.If the price is not negotiable, the customer will ask for something for free to go with the product. For example,I bought a new Camera.Since the price of the Camera can't be reduced,I ask for a free memory card or a pouch to go with the Camera.
awesome vid :D
Very typical singlish. I love this video.very nice to boost ur nationality spirit.go Terry.....
@drakmordparshah you're welcome =), but I was wondering do you think you could explain me when you say "free gift/discount one"? I'm really curious about it.
lol good clip, definitely Singaporean style :)) all the time I visited your country, that would be what I saw. But you turned all that into all adorable things :-j.
Makes me proud to be Singaporean!!!
hey make more videos like this!!! maybe about food?
Hidden gem videos of youtube.
Nice One
This video has aged very well...
i like this video . nico job guy :)
This was Cool.... :)
Haha... I like the way this story gives "SBS" a whole new meaning. That's pretty tongue-in-cheek.
Thumbs up! 5 stars for this video!
I am a singaporean too! Love your vid! =DDD
another interesting about singaporean is their "kiasu"ism.. perhap another video about this topic
nice video.
Nice video :D
Very realistic picture of the average Singaporean! Found myself identifying with so many scenes. Love the final part too. So many of these little actions go by unacknowledged. Do you think the average Singaporean will tell strangers if they have tissue paper stuck to their shoes though? (Psst, look out for our vid tonight to find out!) :)
Good!video just like u i like singapore too!
I love the special accent so much
Nice clip! I like it...not sure Singapore will be like this in time to come with the influx of new citizens. ko-zai-kua (wait to see)!
i like how he says "everywhere!"
wow!
yesterday i go to singapore with my family, this city is modern, clean and fresh.... but they culture name kiasu make they have to be the fastest and the winner in all things...they are very individualistic....they play smartphone in train and dont care each other.....they work harder than other,,,,, but for me this country is still the best place to visit again.... :D
cool...
Same here in Malaysia. Indonsia,Myanmasia,Chinasia,Banglasia,Africasia....sigh...
good job m8 ...
nice one la
such a good vid, a very positive message to everyone in the world,
I would have given this short a chance had the voice-over narration sounded less contrived.
I'm moving to Singapore in June due to the reason that I'll be 18 by then and have to attend national service. Thing is, I moved to California when I was 4 and basically grew up here. So Singapore is a foreign country to my perspective. I have knee injuries so there's no way I could do military work! Is Singapore a nice place to live? Will people be friendly with me? I'm a bit worried about my situation. Advice would be appreciated!
good video.. :)
Love it! I spent nearly 3 years in SG as an expat and miss it sooo much! This vid has made my longer for it even greater. Anxious for one of those "large cocks" they sell at some food stalls, and Bata (buy and throw away) shoes, LOL!
@viola128 Be proud of yr accent Viola! yr country is beautifull and this is the way you talk! Be proud!
Most people would not give seats to the needy on the mrt in the morning rush hour. I've seen a pregnant lady standing from tamp till raffles place, and everyone seems to not see her
Nice
@kelvinickable This was posted in 2007, and it's just humour!
SO TRUE... THE STARE 1 WAS SO HEY
Good thing everytime I visit home, I still remember the *chop* culture and just simply go have lunch before 12pm or after 2pm. Good job Terry (if that's your real name). Ignore the negative and racist comments. There are a lot of jealous people around.
Waa... rly pro =P Haven't heard such an accent in 2 years after moving to USA
In Singapore its almost impossible to get additional discount by *asking*. Getting free gifts is still possible...
haha Singaporean is like that =D very kind and generous LOL!!! GREAT VIDEO !!
im a filipino but i love singapore clean, quiet, and safe, and this video right
good vid
i love Singapore... my most favorite holiday destination :D
Things have changed drastically since 15 yrs ago! Sadly.
what's the song u use for the start?
Great video here. Though we do not speak the best of English, it's still somewhat endearing to hear that every now and then. I must say that the clip was very well made. Kudos to the team!
ahhh best thing about singapore is hawker center, easy transport, the shows (liang po po, i not stupid, any jack neo film and well singapore :)
Wasn't that Lau pa sat? man i miss singapore...
