Homelander isn't only a scary figure to society, but rather a scary metaphor for government control and celebrity worship.

I adopted it. I hold a moral code and always have since I saw Jimeny Cricket sing about his conscience. I give people an opportunity to hurt me ON PURPOSE because it gives me a CLEAR CONSCIENCE to destroy them once they fail miserably at not betraying me. I used to have empathy. I've grown cynical. I take great sadistic pleasure from the misfortune of my enemies, but not from misfortune of the innocent.
