Concealed carry is fine but just walking around with one in your hand is kind of crazy. I don't think it's wrong for people to be upset about it especially in a country that experiences a mass shooting every week minimum. He's attention seeking and looking for a reaction. The cops rarely talk to the callers. Dispatch isn't there to explain to a caller what's legal and what's not. They'll send out a cop or cops because the more calls they get for service, the more they can show that they need more money.

@@brians48now - Dispatch always asks a barrage of questions of the caller...how hard would it be to ask, "What is the man doing? Just fishing? Not brandishing his weapon at and or threatening people? Well ma'am/sir, just so you are aware, it IS legal to open carry while fishing or hunting in Florida". The dispatcher can then pass that on to the officers, who could quietly observe from a distance that nothing is going on. But no, the cops always have to come up and pester the citizen, try to intimidate them to change their behavior, and then parade a bunch of "well, technically what you are doing is LEGAL...JUST don't do this, don't do that or you won't be"...things the person already obviously knows because he already showed he knows the law MUCH better than the so-called law enforcers.

If he's scaring people because he's carrying a gun, then those officers must be scaring people as well.

Damn straight. That cop was irritated he had to respond, O.M.G., he responded to a quiet harmless call and decided to inflict his opinion on someone in compliance with the law. Just for that reason I hope everyone in Florida with a firearm goes to that city and open carries all together. So they had five calls, so what. Tell the local news to run a daily reminder open carry is legal.

I'm in Florida and I've seen these open-carry fishing videos, and the ones I love best are when the police show up and shoot the shit for a while, no pun intended. Casually, "yeah someone called and you know, we had to show up, but it's all good man." Those are the best videos. Awesome to hear SC is open carry. Hope FL jumps on the bandwagon too. Back in 1987-ish, they banned open carry here...probably the cocaine cowboys '80s drama, but hopefully the politicians realize that it's best that if the bad guys have guns, law-abiding citizens obviously should have them too.

The problem is it is NOT legal to open carry in florida, unless you are on your way to or from or are actively partaking in fishing, hunting or a shooting sport. This doesnt mean you can stop by walmart on your way home from hunting while open carrying. We can clearly see he was actively fishing and was able to legally open carry however.

Open carry in Florida is allowed at gun ranges, fishing or hunting. We don't currently have constitutional carry in all places (open carry).

The SCOTUS, almost a decade ago Heien v. North Carolina, actually created a carve out to the "Ignorance of the law is no excuse" singularly for cops-- just like they created out of whole cloth the concept of "qualified immunity." So, it is up to us to band the doors and ring the telephones of our elected officials for them to pass legislation removing the "cop carve-out" and ending qualified immunity.

It's amazing how the law enforcement doesn't know the law. But when the citizen knows the law, their egos can't take it.

I have had court battles with the police (traffic court) and the police lied right through their teeth, AND THEY KNEW IT..! I was told the same thing by a ranger when I was shooting my rifle in the woods. I told him well go tell those scared people to move back to San Fran and they should of thought about that before moving into the mountains. He laughed and agreed.

2 of the officers had zero issue the other new the law but wasn’t cool with it. So dont agree with your statement here. They have to respond to man with a gun and at least check it out. If something went side ways and it was reported that they dismissed the calls we all know the shit storm that would be for them. They came they all talked civilly and left. Gun owner exercised his rights and cops did their job. No harm no foul.

Cops that show up acting like its abnormal is not right. If i called the cops on lets say freedom of speech because you said something i didn't like, we would not only start tearing down the 1st amend, but the very constitution itself. The problem is with law enforcement. If they don't like getting that many calls, maybe the first question to the caller is he actively shooting it. if not, stop calling here because he has that right.

@@stepheng1138 if it becomes normal that’s one thing I agree. Typically it’s not at this time. Understandably most people don’t understand why any one would carry on a fishing pier. Of course this was done to prove a point about gun rights and what’s legal I get that. A side arm is hard to miss ,but rifle or rifle like pistol slung across your chest is a statement and not the norm. If I was coming out of the woods or a rural property it fits the norm mor readily. That’s why police are called. Should we all get use to a large part of the population carrying and having to decide if their all level headed first rate gun owners or are they knuckle heads carrying because they can. I believe there’s both. So I have to assess every one that in my space mentally to decide which one they are and hope I’m right either way. Right or wrong I do this anyway guns or not to be aware of my surroundings . It’s taken up a dozen notches when guns are involved. I worked construction for over 40 yrs and have met plenty of men that I new to my bones that a gun was last thing the needed much less near them at all times. Your freedom of speech argument has some merit because there are people out there already doing just that. Sometimes people are just eat up with it which again why I really would not be comfortable seeing guns strapped to a lot of people. Me personally might have a problem with what a person says but calling law enforcement is pretty far down the line unless there’s an eminent threat to others. I own guns and support the second amendment I just have a hard time with doing it just because I can. Much of this is to educate the public I get that yet this seem just as much to educate the police . I get and understand that. It seems much safer and more productive to go to the actual police department to educate them there instead of let’s see what happens this time rising the possibility of things going side ways in public. It makes of corse great fodder for a video but seems to generate a lot of negativity towards others including the police in the comment section. To me that’s kinda like shooting your self in the foot. Not great PR for the cause. I do respect your views and enjoy discussing this. Really if more did just that we would get a lot farther in life with less animosity.

So I watched this a second time. Cue the Deputy: "we're not going to make this normal." This guy's body language tells all. He would rather hook you up than listen. He's shaking his head 'NO' while biting his tongue listening to you, Michael. You can just sense the fact that these three have lived a life where 'they' and only 'they' have been giving directives from their lofty perch, and when some civilian pushes them aside to share the loft...they aren't prepared to cede a moment's worth of extra time to you. It sucks having to get out of an air conditioned cruiser, only to hook nobody up!

Happens where I live in PA too, open carry will almost 100% get cops called on you for no reason. Even when I show my concealed carry licence I've actually had cops ask me to let them put my gun to the side when talking with me when people called about it. Even after showing them my licence to carry and it being an open carry state anyways. I've lost all respect for cops lately. They'll do whatever they are told to do and no longer apply their own discretion or common sense to situations. I hate to say it but... Super lefty people were correct about police in the US, corrupt.

Just found your channel and love it. I'm from Alabama and did not know that Florida was not an open carry state. I went on a family vacation and when we went out to eat I put my firearm on my side like I do every day and we were walking in to a restaurant and a policeman was there and very nicely told me that it was illegal to open carry. He ask if I had a conceal carry which I showed him my Alabama conceal carry and he said just cover it with your shirt and were all good. Nice guy .

Absolutely right - the police are pushing this back on him, when the callers should be educated. There are a lot of tourists from other states that are not open carry, so you would think the police would be able to educate them over the phone. Obviously no.

Kinda hard to do that without your own weapon, and the fact the 2nd amendment is directed right to the face of the government to keep them in line in the first place.

I live in a concealed and open carry state. My instructor told me just because you can legally open Carry doesn’t make it a good idea. Because a bunch of idiots are going to see you and your weapon and they’re going to call the police. Now you’ve created a hassle for yourself. If I’m going to carry I just put a shirt on that’s long enough so nobody knows it’s there. Do I have to do that? Legally no. I do it because people don’t know the law. And I don’t want to get hemmed up for 30 minutes with the cops because some old lady got scared.

Keep up the good fight, this was wholesome, this is how it should be done, respectful but firm.

We have a couple Florida boys coming out of the gun hiding closet. Patriots ! How come cops never know the law ? Enforcing the law would be to educate the five people who called on the phone and saved the gas from several cop cars that made a trip out to check on you. Actually picked his up for him and the lady asked why i wasnt picking up mine and surprisingly she agreed with my statement of not giving up 4th to exercise my 2nd! Oregon is an open carry state. When I vacationed there I asked a couple of cops about that. They didn’t know and had to look it up to confirm. Then they said if I were carrying, they they would get a call from an alarmed citizen and would have to come and ask me not to do it.

The old man needs to hand in his badge, you can just tell he will never learn and would rather abuse people on a power trip.

I thought same thing. Almost everyone i know get nervous around cops and not because theyre doing anything wrong but a lot of people do not trust cops are really even respect them anymore. A cop is like a snake. Act like ur friend but will put you in a cage when it comes time and over something petty like owing master money for a simple traffic infraction or court costs.

So tell me what videos going to get more views and clicks a 10 minute video of nothing happening and full of dead air or a video of confrontation between him and the cop. Not the video of dead air..the things is people love drama it's like a tv reality show. I dont think it would work that way. If anything more people would be dying.. it would be a worse war than it already is.. people dont think logically though. Theyll take their chances killing someone because they know theres no justice and no imprisonment for it. It would turn into a vicious cycle of opposing family members taking eachother out by avenging eachother and it wont end until one of the whole families are dead.. They showed up hoping he was a felon, the gun was stolen, he was drunk, or any other number of reasons they could find to arrest him. If they told people it wasnt illegal to open carry they couldnt show up and harass him, and others might start open carrying.

Most of the calls are people exaggerating to get a response. In my opinion, if it can be proven (someone caught them on video threatening to call the police and report a false claim), they called and falsely reported it should REQUIRE a fine. It's difficult to enforce because the LAST thing you want to do is dissuade people from calling for help when they need it for worry of being fined.

That’s so bull that they “have to respond”. So what you’re telling me is if I call in and say I saw a guy sitting on a park bench; they would have to go investigate it just because I called? No they would say, “ wow that’s great”. They only have to investigate if a crime is being claimed to being committed or about to be committed.

When we got constitutional carry here in Oklahoma the police dispatch was trained on how to deal with these calls. They have a series of questions and police chief even went on the news to tell people that they WILL NOT be responding to these calls unless there’s real danger.

The first 2 minutes of this video is a defenition example of how to interact with with strangers and people you dont know. A simple hello and how are you goes such a long way. I hope we as the human race can begin to reflect this example more in our daily lives. A good positive attitude can change the world. Let us all learn a lesson from this.

I wish you would tell officers that what needs to be done is to...when they receive a call with people who are scared, educate them on the constitutional rights of open carry in Florida. If they are good cops, they will not come bother you and all the people who complain will be educated. Keep up the good work dude1

Not 1, not 2, but 3 officers approach a citizen exercising his right to carry and all 3 walk away peacefully. 1 was uneducated, but still managed not to violate his rights. You don’t see that everyday!!

The real reason they keep using the "We have to respond" line is because they hope you get their message "We will keep on harassing you until you either go away or do something stupid so we can arrest you so we win". It's a pity they can't respond faster when a real crime in progress is called in like a home incursion.

It’s simple all they have to ask the callers is if he’s brandishing his weapon or acting in a threatening manner. If they say no, then they need to inform them that that is likely a lawful carry and they’re not going to investigate a report of lawful activity

Makes as much sense as showing up for someone calling about a person doing the speed limit. If the caller is not articulating a crime then tell them.
