One day i was checking my friends snapchat story and i saw her complaining about her boob size (obviously she was still growing at that time, so her chest size was normal) And i asked why she did that, shes still very young? She replied with saying "well i just wish my boobs were bigger bc then i would be more attractive and i was at the doctor and she told me my boobs werent big enough for my age" I was so disturbed. At a young age I early developed and it made everything so much worse. Teen boys targeted me, old men hitting on me and touching me, boys flirting with me, people making comments about my chest and ass, etc. I've gotten dresscoded a few times in elementary school because my outfit was deemed "inappropriate" when I was really just big chested. I absolutely hate my body and I can't even wear clothes that I want because it won't look a certain way because of my body proportions, then comes social media, beauty standards, misogyny, insecurities and discovering things that I shouldn't have discovered. My childhood was taken away from me in so many ways and I still haven't healed yet, I am now 14 years old trying to battle with everything and feeling uncomfortable in my own body. Society and media makes me feel like I am NEVER going to be comfortable being a girl. Edit: 4/5/2024 - I wanna thank you all for the insanely nice replies and thoughtful words. Stuff like that makes me happy, and makes me feel more understood. I still haven't grown comfortable with myself enough where I want it to be, but it'll happen someday hopefully.

It's awful for me to watch girls wanting to grow up faster. I met a 13-year-old girl, who was wearing makeup, fake eyelashes and sexy clothing. She already had 4 relationships (they were all older than her, but not adults). I'm gonna sound like a grandma, but when I was 13 I did not had my first kiss yet. The fact that she admitted she was wearing such clothes for attention terrified me. Doing things for yourself and because you feel good inside them is different when you do it for the others gaze.

Former teen boy here - we don't, or at least, didn't until maturing past a certain age (hopefully!). Honestly, I'd argue it's in some ways intentional by a lot of media and/or patriarchal systems to keep teenage boys feeling entirely disconnected from women. I remember in my youth feeling a "click" moment (disturbingly too late in all honestly... probably around age 16) where I realized that women and men are almost entirely the same. A lot of that has carried on into young adulthood too: deconstructing the "masculinity" imposed on me that forced my male/male relationships to be excessively platonic and shallow and the inability to express emotion unless around a significant, female other are proof of that. However, as I dive into my memories to research how I had come to these unknowingly misogynist ideals, I'm met with the horrifying realization that I did not choose to act the way I did around women myself, but was instead molded by my environment into thinking it. Media "for men" like anime and video games of a relatively popular caliber often contain blatantly horrific depictiona of women as these sex objects that always fail the Bechdel test, pornography has proven to advertise to a below 18 male audience trying their hardest to teeter on the lines of p3dophilia and grooming in just your average first result on a website, and many extracurricular environments such as sports or even religious affairs find themselves forcibly splitting women and men. This behavior was bred into my mind, taught, and recited, until I was finally autonomous enough to realize the wool pulled over my eyes. When men exist in a collective group entirely of other men, each of which have been micromanaged into believing lies of strength, character, personality, sexuality, worth, and worst of all, use, all the factors combined keep them from seeing their fellow humans as equal. A slot roll of estrogen or testosterone production is forcefully separated into something it's not by the misogynist forefathers of our modern society. It terrifies me, honestly, and makes queer representation all the more difficult when our heteronormative standards are hollow and unequal. The conclusion to draw from this is to simply make the change you want to see, whether that be by rearing children that understand that this separation imposed on them isn't real, that boys can cry and women can be anything that isn't for the sake of pleasing another man, or by any other method. It is a difficult and forever uphill battle for women - it is a steadfast goal of mine to ensure my children do not contribute to that steepness.

I’m not even 14 and I’ve experienced over sexualisation and bc nobody gave a shit when I was 7 I got sexually harassed and sexually assaulted bc the over sexualisation or girls has become so normal. When I was 5, I was wearing a skirt that didn’t fit me no more and was JUST covering my butt (but wasn’t so short to the point when I bent over u could see it). I was wearing it bc it was the only thing I had in the summer. I got called into the Head Teacher’s office bc apparently I was “distracting the boys” when none of the boys were staring. It is honestly disgusting how people have normalised sexual assault/harassment/@bus3 to women especially young women and for what. We didn’t ask to start developing tits at age 8 (some ppl did I was one). We didn’t ask to start bleeding every month. Ppl who over sexual women r ridiculous they take normal things and make them sexual just for some kink. Or they take something rlly horrible (SA or r@p3) and normalise it. Some people need to get a grip and stop thinking that teen girls and young women r just dolls to play with.

How society forces girls to grow up too soon and @buses and mistreats us, expecting is to act like fully-grown adults who must act responsible for our own safety *the moment* we start to develop in any way, or even before, just for the great sin of existing as a female in the carefree state of youth we're not allowed to have for nearly as long as we should.

When I went to the store the other day a almost 20 yr old man was trying flirt w/ me, I proceed to tell him I was 13 and in middle school and he still asked me if I had a insta or snap. The fact is you're the same person you were when you were 17 or 16. And even then, when you're that old you aren't some little helpless child. Idk why people act like being 17 makes you a child, you're not legally an adult but you aren't somebody too helpless to make any informed decision about anything. It'll never make sense to me.

They seem to be like 40, 50 or 60 years old men, they could be my dad. The worst part is if I tell them that I'm 20. It always repulsed me because I was thinking, "Damn, I can't even imagine what or how the girl(s) are processing this." During my University English years, we HEAVILY discussed oversexualization of many fronts and it shocked me how rampant it is, which had me conflicted and saddened to see. From there on in, I made a vow to do better and treat my future girlfriend (whenever she comes to me) like a human who deserves all the decency in the world. That's why I'm watching female-made videos like yours so that I can understand things better. You are all intelligent, strong, beautiful and wonderful all at once. Wishing you the best! 👍🙂

I think part of the problem is that grown-ups give their kids the impression that they have to be adults to feel validated and be listened to. Downplaying everything a kid does and says by constantly saying things like "oh, they're just a kid", creates the desire to grow up as quickly as possible. It's that weird power dynamic that gives children the impression that they aren't even considered a proper human being for the first two decades of their lives. So then they start idealizing adulthood and looking up to, and copying celebrities behavior.

At the same time, i don't think it helps that some shows way of " not sexualizing" is never letting the teen characters wear a mini skirt or a crop tops, because those are normal clothes not inherently sexual. And yes, i am lookingt at everyone who defended netflix winx horrible fashion by saying they could not put the characters in outfits similar to the cartoon to avoid sexualization. Because this creates the idea that anything that is not being completely covered is being sexual in a girl.

You can think that yours is social commentary, that’s your prerogative or whatever but to me you seem quite bitter towards women in general. The quote I commented is from a song that talks about the shared experience of many women growing up, especially black women as she talked about in the video, that experience being sexualized from a young age which is not okay. I really don’t see how your comment is relevant here as i and the video were talking about children, not full grown women. The quote is basically saying that boys are allowed to be children and not be sexualized until they want to be, but girls are sexualized prematurely by much older people and often are given more responsibility and stuff. This is a notable shared experience that a good number of women and girls have, I’m not trying to generalize.

Just because you are 19 doesn't mean you are any more mature than you were when you were 18 or 17. Humans brain matures around 25 or so.

I wish I could dispel this myth about 25. You are talking about the plasticity in the prefrontal cortex which is something we know a bit about but is still very mysterious as is much of the human brain. The xiphoid process is a piece of cartilage at the bottom of your sternum that ossifies at around age 40. This does not mean you are not an adult until age 40. People say they are concerned that the prefrontal cortex is involved in decision making and following social rules. It's the social rules part that concerns me because social rules are often stupid and wrong as we've seen with our current culture war. In fact this would seem to indicate that you should definitely try to get a mate under 25 before the stupid culture ruins them. We don't know enough about the human brain to say when adulthood starts or what adulthood is. Some people never grow up and that is a good thing. Maybe they can keep their prefrontal cortex plastic or adapt the functions of a plastic prefrontal cortex to a different part of the brain. Just don't blindly go along with some overprotective parent saying you aren't an adult till 25. They are trying to cement social norms into your plastic prefrontal cortex 😊😊

We were going to leave and I was putting my normal clothes back on over the top of my swimmers (i had taken off the rashie/board shorts). While i was putting my shirt on, i noticed there was a guy, probably about late 50s to early 60s, staring at me. Not even trying to hide it. When i made eye contact with him, he smiled, blew be a kiss, and wolf whistled. I've never been so freaked out in my life. I was very restricted. I was a pick me girl when I was younger! I wore shorts and a tee-shirt. Yes I did like wearing them but I mostly only wore them because I thought my crush (at the time) didn’t like girly girls. Now I kinda wanna dress like JoJo Siwa did. It looks fun

Also, even as an adult, what’s wrong with wearing bright colors and facing fun with what you wear, especially as it’s a brand for her and makes her a lot of money. I don’t believe that as adults we always have to wear “sexual” or even just fashionable or…kinda boring normal clothes, especially when we’re not working or anything, just let people wear what they want

yeah its almost like society wants females to go from young girls to WOMEN instantly, like no pre-teen phase in between anymore. When i was like 10-14 i used to shop at like Justice and stuff and i’d wear sparkly clothes or whatever. Now i feel like that age group of girls all want to start dressing like they’re 17 years old or something. Its cause of freakin social media

Tbh most girls my age don’t even compare themselves to Kylie Jenner or adults even. We either compare ourselves to each other or to other minors in tiktok. And i think that’s what makes us even more insecure. We can’t even use the excuse “oh she got plastic surgery” cause they literally just won the genetic lottery

I feel the same way. I'm 19 now, but when I was younger, I primarily remember comparing myself to my peers instead of to celebrities. I craved male attention and validation so much that I would over-analyze why the other girls could get boyfriends so easily yet I couldn't.

It hurts me to see people watching shows like skins and glamorising that life. My teen years were like that and watching skins was triggering as hell. Being addicted to drugs/alcohol, losing friends to murder, having ED’s, being cheated on, manipulated and abused are not things to romanticise. They’re traumatic and it’s so disheartening to go through years of therapy just to be able to function, only to see so many teens falling into the trap of thinking that’s the life they want because it’ll make them “edgy.” I feel like I’ve failed all of these kids I never met because I can’t warn all of them.

I'm 25 now and I watched Skins when it came out so I guess I was like 12? And it definitely impacted my choices and outlook on sex and drugs and all of that stuff. I definitely had that feeling like I was missing out, and I had my main drug experimenting years around 16-18 when I was still in high school. I don't regret it to be fair, I'm happy I experienced all of that, but some of the situations I got in were weird, unsafe and occasionally traumatic. Maybe they would have gone better if I was old enough to deal with them. Things are even weirder these days, especially for young girls and the ubiquity of social media. When I think of my little sister now who's 12 I do worry for her safety as that age is when my interest in that stuff started. Must be sooo much harder for her handling all of this in 2021.

I think you’re absolutely right I think ppl need to learn that you can like Skins without romanticizing it. Like Skins is one of my fav all time show but I would never want to go through what any of them go through. I actually like the show bc of how real and raw it is. It’s nothing to be romanticized

as a 19 year old straight male, i’ve never understood the “school girl” fetish. it’s so disgusting and i constantly am extremely ashamed that there are men out there that celebrate when a young girl turns 18. absolutely disgusting mindset. i hope this shit changes soon, but one thing i’ve always said about tik tok is that it is pushing the sexualization of literal children. yet no one around me seems to care that much because “tik tok is fun”

To be fair a lot of people I know don't have tiktok because of it. Because tiktok has earned a name for underage children dancing to sexualized songs. A lot of people complain of kids being on tumblr/twitter/instagram so I'm like ,, let's give the kids tiktok, why should we adults interact with this medium". That said, I think tiktok has so many problems and potential to fuck up with children's mental health. The affects of worldwide online exposure is more extreme on children than on adults and even a lot of adults struggle with depression and suicid* thoughts because of their interaction with social media popularity...
