作曲者羅爾夫．勒夫蘭（Rolf Løvland，1955─），生於挪威，於挪威音樂研究院（Norges musikkhøgskole）獲得碩士學位。勒夫蘭與小提琴手芙露娜．雪莉（Fionnuala Sherry）組成新世紀音樂團「神秘園」（Secret Garden），擔任作曲家兼鍵盤手。他的音樂洋溢熱情，卻又樸實無華；旋律舒緩柔美，卻充滿著思憶與淡淡的哀愁，賦予樂曲流動的生命。神秘園的代表作有〈你鼓舞我〉（You Raise Me Up）、〈夜曲〉（Nocturne）等。作詞者布倫丹．格雷厄姆（Brendan Graham，1945─），為愛爾蘭小說家和歌曲作家。
本曲最初題為「寂靜的故事」（Silent Story），是一首器樂作品；勒夫蘭讀了格雷厄姆的小說後深受感動，故邀請他填詞。〈你鼓舞我〉收錄於神秘園2002年的專輯《紅月》（Once in a Red Moon），由愛爾蘭歌手布萊恩．甘迺迪（Brian Kennedy）演唱，頗受歡迎，之後為許多歌手翻唱，成為今日家喻戶曉的名曲。
〈你鼓舞我〉旋律改編自傳統愛爾蘭的〈倫敦德里小調〉（Londonderry Air），主歌以疲憊的心靈、不安的悸動鋪陳「你」的出現，副歌將「你」鼓舞「我」的力量充分發揮，段落對比之間流露出振奮人心的力量。

Phenomenal. This choir nail this song especially at the end of the lines in verse 1 and 2 the intonation on the word silence, the pause after oh in the 1st verse. They sing it exactly how it's written to be sung which makes all the difference. Impeccably turned out as well. From a member of Birmingham City council choir UK.

Portugal is a beautiful country. I got stroke and stayed in Amadora Hospital for a few weeks in 2007. I sing and love this song as well......a guy from Isla Formosa.

I really enjoy listening to this choir. Good light and shade and harmonies, although generally a bit too loud. Not sure the clarinettist is necessary - they do well without him.

Togliete l' omino col clarino e in alcuni spezzoni fategli cantare a file ( esempio la prima fila canta la terza fila la seconda fila canta con l' ultima fila ) e quando la canzone deve alzare la sua tonalità allora si che possono cantare tutti insieme.
